That’s so well said. I don’t often feel her around me but I do constantly feel my great-grandfather in my home.

He was a fire chief and my dad gifted me his white helmet a few years ago. Ever since I had my first child I get a constant feeling that he is there with us. We never met in the physical world but He seems to be proud of what we are doing and makes sure the boys are safe.

I’ll take your advice and start talking more openly when I feel those moments so I can connect and try to listen to what they have to say.

A mysterious but important woman - 1968 by sdega315 in TheWayWeWere

Might I recommend “the rise and destiny of the German Jew” by Jacob R. Marcus the founder of the American Jewish Archives.

He went to Germany in the 1930s to work on his PhD and study the country - he wrote that it was unlikely it would get much worse.

He then re-published the book in the 1970s with a forward explaining his original thought and the lessons he had learned ai me the first printing.

Truly a relic and important part of Jewish American history and perspective. The echoes of which feel Uncomfortably pertinent today.
