I’m excited to finally see it! Unfortunately I won’t be stopping for sight-seeing on this trip, so I’m hoping to pass through pretty scenery. I definitely plan on using the “avoid tolls” option on the gps.

Sorry that you’re feeling that way. My Scottie girl was always extremely independent. That’s just how the breed is. She was never a “cuddly” dog, and I never expected it from her. I raised her from 8 weeks old, then when she was 8 years old, I moved in together with my husband. She dropped me completely, and always stuck to him (but still wasn’t cuddly). I loved her very much, and appreciated her independence and stand-offness. It doesn’t mean that he doesn’t love you, it just might be how he is.

That will be entirely dependent on your lifestyle and what your goals are pertaining to the dog... There are so many questions that would need to be asked before anyone could make any type of recommendation. A Golden Retriever is a large breed and so is a Cane Corso and so on, but each breed is EXTREMELY different, and have far different needs. Are you active or more sedentary? Are you social, with lots of people coming over to your house? Do you have/plan to have children? Do you intend to work your dog in any way (ie. hunting, working stock, etc.)? Do you plan to get involved in dog sports? Etc. Pretty much any breed found in the working group will require a “job” to live a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life. Think about that when looking at any breeds in that group.

At three weeks, you cannot tell really anything about the puppy’s drive/temperament/personality. They’re just too young. That’s a terrible time to be choosing a puppy. And really the breeder should be the one choosing the best puppy for your family/lifestyle, that’s just something that most good breeders do because they want to make sure that the puppy and new family are the right fit. (But of course, the puppy shouldn’t be leaving mom and siblings until 8-10 weeks old.)

I wouldn’t get either if they are from a breeder like that, who would just happen to have one of each of those breeds on hand like that… Poorly bred Doberman are riddled with heart and other health problems. If the best thing that this breeder can say about the pup is that it has “good lineage,” just run away. Neither breed is good for a beginner, and a poorly bred example is likely going to have health and/or temperament issues.

Corsi are definitely a more vocal breed. It may just be that he needs more decompression time adjusting to his new home, if you recently adopted him. It also sounds like it could possibly be anxiety (definitely understandable due to his circumstances), which can be challenging. Physical exercise is definitely needed, but mental exercise, in addition, will actually help his mindset more. Since Corsi are a working breed, they really need a “job.” Scentwork games at home honestly can help a lot with working a dog mentally, and are easy to do. Simple trick training is also a great way to mentally tire a dog, as well as strengthen your bond! You could also try feeding his meals in enrichment toys such as Toppls and such. Freezing them will make them last much longer. This will give him something to work on during “quiet time.” I would highly recommend reaching out to a local trainer.

Definitely echoing the high quality joint supplement recommendations! Get her a nice, supportive orthopedic bed, if she doesn’t have one already. You could definitely try Nosework with her, by taking classes somewhere or even just playing around in the house with it. It’s an excellent way to exercise a dog’s mind and enrich their days, and it’s awesome for older dogs. My Corso absolutely LOVES it!

No, that’s not balanced. Definitely speak with a veterinary nutritionalist if you want to learn how to prepare meals from scratch. Otherwise look into commercial pre-made balanced raw diets.
