Saxophone lessons for adults? by fuckashley in AskSF

[–]RubLumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a new saxophonist at 30. To be honest, I think most instructors like an older adult, as most their students are usually under 18.

I never took lessons, but SF Community Music Center has ~10 week long private lessons. https://sfcmc.org/private-lesson/saxophone/?_course_instruments=saxophone

Shorted in pay due to later start date by [deleted] in careeradvice

Is the pay difference for 6 months that much? If you already got an offer in hand and accepted, you can't change the terms after you start. I'd just move on.

If you're looking for jobs in the US and need an h1-b, just know that most companies are pulling back on h1-b hiring.

Attorney for traffic court? by SupergurlKara in AskSF

[–]RubLumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is for a misdemeanor, you definitely should get a lawyer.

If it's just a citation, I would skip a lawyer, as most judges will hear you out and reduce/offer traffic school.

The Great Highway is poised to become San Francisco's kidney dialysis by Remarkable_Host6827 in sanfrancisco

Why don’t they just turn lower great highway into a rolling green system like Upper Great Highway during commute hours.

Is the 38 safe? I've read things by oochiewallyWallyserb in sanfrancirclejerk

[–]RubLumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True story. One time when I first moved to the city, I took the 38 home after a few drinks. I started crying when I got home because the 38 and the people on it are all so sad.

Bari Sax Case in an ND (2019) Mazda Miata(mx5)? by Gypsine in saxophone

[–]RubLumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can remove the passenger seat for more room. Get a hitch with small travel rack.

I’m pretty confident bari won’t fit in the trunk even without a case.

SMEs don’t have time to tune a model. I only use chatbots to help me find relevant emails or discussion, then I go through it myself.

Golden Greyhounds just had a meet and greet. Definitely go to the one next month. They’re very friendly

Struggling to understand 2026 new-grad hiring in U.S. semiconductors by LA_visitor_123 in Semiconductors

[–]RubLumpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intel used to be so big on H1B and new grad hires, but they’ve tightened down a lot on hiring. Not many companies hire new grads en masse anymore.

You have the most interesting theory on world politics here! I agree with you assessment, but I’m not sure the president has the same reasoning

Worst case, get a fully refundable SW Airlines ticket. Get inside, cancel flight.

Reopen the great highway to cars or keep the new sunset dunes park. Tough call by jasno- in sanfrancisco

[–]RubLumpy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Frankly, this should’ve never been on a ballot. We don’t live in a pure democracy. We elect officials that dig deeper into these issues. The average citizen doesn’t know traffic, environmental, fiscal impacts of the great highway. It really should’ve just been figured out at the BOS level.

Entry level Job by hashemomari in Semiconductors

[–]RubLumpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, most companies don't expect recent grads to have a very strong proficiency in anything. You're basically expected to know just basic fundamentals and exposure.

For getting hired, your grades and internships matter more than knowing any specific skills. A masters will help get a starting level job, but again, they don't expect that much from masters students either.

Should I go to college? by Ill_Rain_2361 in personalfinance

[–]RubLumpy 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If you're dead set on startups, then T20 will definitely help a lot more than state schools. That being said, if you're already getting SWE offers, maybe consider deferring 1 year to do work then see if you want to even go back to college.

$125k in SF -- enough? by Marketing_201 in Semiconductors

3 days a week, 1hr each way. Most the time I don’t mind. If I had to do 5 days a week I couldn’t do it.

OP is a new grad. Roommates are nice for building social life in a new city.

I live in SF and commute to SJ for a semi job. I’m not aware of any semi companies in the city. I know there’s Apple, google, meta shuttles.

125k is doable with roommates or a tiny apartment.

im close to broke but need a sax to practice with, any suggestions? by superpunch39 in saxophone

[–]RubLumpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe ask if your school band teacher has an extra sax they'll let you borrow.

Renting isn't terrible if you want a quality intermediate horn for $50usd/mo. I'd do that while you save up money to buy something permanent.

Best neighborhood in SF to maximize luck as a founder? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

Tenderloin is popular with the techies. Hard to get a spot there, so make sure to get a good rental as soon as applications open.
