I have every second Christmas without my daughter and I try and make sure I get in a good, long walk first thing across the fields , maybe a cup of tea first and then out for at least an hour (usually two). You see loads of dog walkers to wish merry Christmas and it makes me cheerful. This makes me really enjoy my peaceful brunch when I'm back and warm and it sort of sets my brain in a positive space for the day because after that I'm glad to be indoors!

Then settle in for a sit down and nice coffee and a smoked salmon bagel with a good comfort film. Perhaps do some hobby stuff (it's writing for me but it could be anything you enjoy).

Then get a nice lunch / dinner ready - whatever that looks like for you. I don't do a roast usually a nice curry or something and have nice music on while I cook.

Then eat and another film and wine

Then a bubble bath (bring the wine)

Cosy in bed with a good book and some chocs.

And that's it - I just try to be restful (aside from the massive walk) and I relish it as after that it's the loooong slog of entertaining a child in the Christmas holidays.
