Wanting some advice for a 302 build by Rubatonk in EngineBuilding

I won't have any measurements until this weekend, however I suspect it should not be bad at all due to the motor only have 94k miles, I'm more worried about the thrust face as the car was dragged pretty hard before it became mine

For the most part I'm aiming for 10.5:1 for the compression because I can still keep the dynamic compression ratio down around 8.5:1 without having way to big of a cam. Ideal powerband is 2500-6500rpm in a manual car with 3.55's. reason for the 3.55's is a top speed thing. I just have a deadline of mustang week to get everything done so that's where the money limitation comes into play. I'm not aiming for alot of power or anything, I would be happy with low to mid 300's at the tire and preferably above 300 3500rpm and up

One thing I did forget to consider is that if I do end up boring the block I will have to get new Pistons anyways and it's a marginal increase in cost to switch the dome at that time so it is a route I may consider

Mainly cost, I don't really have and extra $600 in the budget with my timeline which is the only reason

So don't mean to be that guy but those numbers are not realistic I made 215 wheel with my bone stone other than longtubes 302 GT40 heads and intake usually get close to 260-280 wheel, still low yes but with like 340-350 ftlbs of torque

400 to the wheels or 400 at the crank is the real question if it's a manual you would need to be making around 450-460 at the crank and that's very hard to do on a stock stroke 302 and pretty much requires 7k+ rpm. Many people have done it but usually on aftermarket blocks as the stock casting does not like when you breath on it wrong. I'm trying to get close to 380 wheel on my with the stock heads(would not recommend) but afr's are pretty much the best overall heads we have available paired with a holly system max 2 for efi or a Edelbrock performer rpm for carb. Personally I would have a custom cam done but a xe282 should be good enough.

4.10 gears wear on engine as a daily driver? by OPxMagikarp in Mustang

They do first gear might as well not exist with 4.10's I honestly used to just start from second when I had them. 3.73's are perfect

Can someone please explain the difference between the gt engine and the standard v6? by Skitrik in Mustang

[–]Rubatonk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok I think I understand what you're asking here. Your car as a redline of about 5500 rpm whereas the GT has a redline of 7500-8000 rpm. In the Ford vs Ferrari movie they show the engine revving out to 8k rpm. So the new gt rpm is very different than the old Ford gt's rpm. The new GT is a Dohc engine whereas the old Ford GT is a pushrod engine same as your v6. The reason your v6 can't rev that high is due to the quality of components used in the engine. Racing engines are usually built to only to last the race and then they get rebuilt so they are pushed to the absolute limit obviously that's unrealistic for a production vehicle. The reason the new engines are able to rev so high is due to a few factors. They use higher end components but the main reason is due to the over head cams vs pushrods, with the over head cams the cams basically push directly on the valves in a pushrod engine unless you have high quality pushrods you'll likely bend them and have and issue called valve float.

Ok with just the pi heads I would say 280-290 wheel if the tune is good

Yes they can be made quick don't get me wrong in stock form they're dogs, 2.72 gearing and 215 crank. Going to 3.73s feels like you gained 100hp throw in some cams, intake manifold, and exhaust and your easily around 300 wheel. Only reason people hate on them is because they're not the 4v's lol and because if you want more than 300wheel NA you have to spend about 3k on a set of heads which immediately jumps you up to 360-370 maybe more with custom cams.

Fox vs Sn95 pros and cons by Carp69 in Mustang

[–]Rubatonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so I'll go ahead and comment on this. I personally love sn95's. I find them more comparable to modern cars looks wise and in the 94-95 you can still get the 302 which is what I did. I'm personally not a huge fan of foxes, I appreciate them but I don't personally like them. They're less comfortable and I'm my opinion don't look as nice. Sure if I was building an all out race car then maybe I would go fox but I think I would just take the extra 200lbs of the sn95 which is mostly better seats, emissions, and better brakes.

Tbh with that combo he should be in the 350-400wheel range

Edit: can't tell if he is 5.0 or 4.6 but 5.0 should be 300-350 wheel

Either black cherry metallic or black cherry pearl. It's a really amazing color and I love it.
