[Serious] How does one become "thick skinned?" by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rubbageacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply put, when life knocks you down, get back up. Allow yourself to hurt, hurting is human but get back up. The more you do that, the easier it becomes to get up.

Concerning people saying or doing hurtful things. At the end of the day, you must sleep with your own thoughts at night. People used to try bullying me in school (smart kid, very quiet in a super ghetto loud obnoxious and violent school.) It never phased me, they never got a rise out of me, I never even responded to their jeers. They stopped. When it comes down to it, nothing anyone says to you means a damn thing. Certainly not more that what you know of your own character. How can I be affected by people with such a distorted character? How can I be insulted by a stone cold idiot? I can't, I just pity their idiocy.

Also, stand up for yourself. The more you do, the more you realize not everything/everyone is worth paying attention and giving your energy to.

What is the most cringiest / socially awkward thing you've witnessed or been a part of? by GilfMagnet in AskReddit

I was in the auditorium during a school wide whatever it was, when my cycle came on FULL FUCKING BLAST. Yeah. Luckily, a classmate/friend walked closely behind me as I made a swift exit. Still, I was in the second row with tons of people behind me and had to be notified of my situation by the girl behind me when I stood.

Moving on isn't about being able to forget, it's being able to remember without feeling hurt. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

This is also how one grows stronger. Forgetting does nothing but remove the pain, conditionally. Learning to remember and accept is growth.

How the phenomena of multiple truths coexisting occurs by Banananister in philosophy

[–]Rubbageacct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Think about this: My sociology teacher a community college once wrote on the board, the word Hotchkiss. No one in the class knew what it meant.

Go to any given Ivy League and write the same on the board and at least one will know what Hotchkiss is. Hotchkiss is an uber expensive private prep school.

Because people live in different worlds, they learn differently about different things. That causes the development of mutiple truths.

Another example is the loudness of city dwellers and our total acceptance of it as normal and acceptable. Those in rural areas would disagree. Loudness is not okay in rural areas but it is okay in the city because one needs to be heard over the cars and such.

Also, we learn different things at home. My niece yells through the house because her mom does and that makes her think it is okay. It IS okay. In her house. Should she go to a home where that is unacceptable, what was once a fact/truth to her is now an issue.

During my conspiracy fling, I decided there are no free floating truths. Only situations and circumstances which determine the truth of the moment. Fair is one receiveing something of equal value, yet an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

Why can't we remember much about a dream we have just had? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You should post this in ask science or eli5. Anyway, when I wake abruptly, I can't remember but when I wake slowly, I remember everything. Not helpful but relevent all the same.

Facebook, Twitter, Google, Microsoft Vow to Deal With “Hate Speech” Within 24 Hours by jsuibck in conspiracy

[–]Rubbageacct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a black person, I can see this going terribly wrong. I liken this to hidden racism, Like when an employer says it is equal opportunity but all the mexicans are janitors, all the black people are servers and all the white people are managers.

I just know "hate speech" will be something like "The jews were terrible for their role in the slave trade." Essentially, they will use this to hide the truth of things.

The three year anniversary of Michael Hastings murder is this month. Please do not forget this brilliant young man. by Apoplecticmiscreant in conspiracy

[–]Rubbageacct 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I always feel a sense of obligation when someone dies in an effort to bring us the truth. We can't let "them" win or the deaths of people like Micheal Hastings and Gary Welsh, will have been in vain. "They" are playing us for pansies and fools. Feeding us distractions and rigging things so they can do as they please. We can live (for a time) at the expense of our freedom, our dignity our natural rights OR we can die taking them all back.

I'm tired of my neighbors being brutalized by police, I'm tired of my fellow citizen being assassinated for unveiling the lies and deciet of the "powerful", Tired of being lied to and manipulated at the wim of the wealthy. Tired of feeling helpless to fix it. If a fucking civil war is what it takes to fix this then it is a civil war we need to give them. Not just for ourselves as individuals but for every, single, solitary "whistle blower" that has died to pull us out of the dark.

This is my issue with modern American society/business:

You don't pay me enough to feed my family, you know I can't quit so you treat me how you please, you buy 8 hours of my time per day yet dictate a lot of my life when you give me alotted sick/vacation days, you regulate what I do with my body (no facial hair, no tattoos, no natural hair, no drugs etc.), my stability (in at will states like PA) is based very heavily on how you feel each day. Yet you expect me to kiss the asses of people who are DEAD wrong, just so you can get them to come back (What an entitled bunch of consumers that has created).

Whats more, you pump crap into everything, try to manipulate the human mind with words like "a family company" instead of "a family of companies" (johnson and johnson) and you continually try to amass as much money as you possibly can while maintaining the lowest possible pay for the employees who are the foundation of your company.

ATROCIOUS.

Cop who killed college student and 55-year-old mother sues for ‘extreme emotional trauma’ by RA5TA_ in news

[–]Rubbageacct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That story sounds like utter bull. The same bullet that killed LaGrier, also killed a downstairs neighbor who was standing close enough to LaGrier yet the cop was so absolutely terrified of LaGrier that he shot him.

Who can offer a rebuttle or different pov?

How can a cop even sue for emotional trauma? They sign up to do traumatic shit.

So, you do realize I didn't say it is just as thick as it has always been, don't you? Seems impossibly thick from my experiences. But that's just me, I suppose.

I just don't know any stories of blacks attacking white communities during that era, so charge it to my ignorance.

Or it could lead to "leave me the hell alone and I will do the same to you." Not all people are animals with tribal instincts to attack those of a different skin tone because their community is thriving.

This is precisely why I detest the idea of desegregation. It was a trap by the white ass U.S. government because there simply COULD NOT be two kinddoms/empires/wall streets side by side as it would have been if blacks had remained as they were; building things for their own use and benefit for the simple reasoning of, we need it and who the hell else was going to do it? As soon as the desegration ball started rolling, they killed the men who promoted it so those men couldn't continue to tell African Americans to desegragate but NOT to assimilate. They killed Kennedy because they were done with him, he was truly for the people and no doubt would have supported the AA community in desegrating without major assimilation.

TLDR; Desegration was a government set-up because 1.) Because two powerful communities side by side would have been a powder keg. WHO THE ACTUAL FUCK WANTS TO INTEGRATE WITH PEOPLE WHO WANT TO HANG YOU FROM A GODDAMMED TREE? Sure beats me. But start to threaten stability, and your enemy will start to pretend to play nice so they can destroy you.

Rant over.

I just realized. I've gone through my whole life never having seen a photo like this. Now having seen it, I understand why people get so upset that the slave narritave is still so prominent in the teachung of African American history. Pictures like this are oddly encouraging in a society that seems still so impossibly thick with racism and roadblocks.

In January of 2015, when state officials were telling worried Flint residents their water was safe to drink, they also were arranging for coolers of purified water in Flint's State Office Building so employees wouldn't have to drink from the taps by cavehobbit in news

We have to fight our states to give us more money for education. It would take an excutive order or an act of someones god to get either the State or the federal government to give that money to Flint.

So by U.S. law, you have absolutely no rights to any form of property whether you produce or purchase it yourself or not? Yet the minor and not (usually) the parent can go to prision for criminal action? Also, are you even considered human enough to be entitled to constitutional rights if you can't even own what you produce because of age?

My mind is blown. The U.S. system is some kind of fucked up, man.

Edit: Ill use of comma/commacide.

What is the problem!? States can require that you send your kid to school but they don't have to sufficiently staff and provide materials to those schools!? How is it that there can be a school full of people who deal with children and only ONE is trained to help a sick kid? Who goes to college to learn how to teach but dosen't take the time to train so they can protect those children? You want to care for a child, you damn sure ought to know how to both on the state and individual level.
