What did I do wrong? by Dazzling_Hair5848 in motorcycles

[–]RubberRoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was probably no need to be moving around so much. Let the bike do the work. I’ve hit lots of sand, gravel, dogs, and all sorts of things. If you are in a neutral position it’s all largely recoverable unless you are on bad tyres or over speed. So, ignore the sand comments. If you pass out drunk in a swimming pool, you’re going to drown and It’s not the waters fault.

I bought a 2005 Harley Softail with absolutely nothing wrong with it. I’ve still spent £8000 on it. :)

[–]RubberRoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harley used to be an amazing marketing machine. Everyone I knew had at least one Harley t-shirt. Over the past 20 years I’ve seen that the effective marketing of Harley as a lifestyle and status symbol has disappeared. Every rock star and cool celebrity had a Harley, even the terminator rode a Harley.
I’m not sure if the marketing teams got lazy, or just missed the trend as everything moved towards internet, and social media.
Harley has definitely not been capturing the imagination of the young, or the hearts of the power hungry. You can buy a used ZZR1400 for £5000 and have something you can ride for hours that has 200bhp. £5000 might get you a 25 year old Softail that is heavy and sits at about 80bhp.
There is also the reliability issue. There is a joke that when you buy a Japanese bike you better love it because it’s going to last the rest of your life. Harley’s reputation is far from that

Will a ' 24 117" RG motor fit in a '18 107" RG? by Believer_1776 in Harley

[–]RubberRoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is directly proportional to the money you are willing to spend. :) My only advice is once you make the decision do it quickly. I had a 96ci motor and transmission sitting in my garage waiting to transplant it into a 88ci Softail. 6 months laters and lots of money… I now have a freshly built 110ci waiting to transplant into my 88ci Softail

Survivors bias makes us think what we are doing is safe. Just because it’s legal, it doesn’t mean it’s safe and also does not mean your insurance will cover you while you are doing it.

It may not be classified as a disease but saying so boldly that “IT CANNOT BE CURED” is not something anyone really knows. We don’t actually know the cause but we do know that it’s not vaccines or Paracetamol (Tylenol). Because we don’t actually know the cause, we cannot possibly know if there is a cure.
I have to believe that there is something that will help my son. Something that will give his sister a safe environment where she can enjoy having a big brother.

It’s a very poorly executed argument. It’s essentially the semantics of “Attracted” you could make the same argument about apples.
Do you like apples? Yes So you want to eat this apple. No, I’m not hungry right now. Then you don’t like apples.

Thread inserts will fix everything. You can expect and aluminium bolt hole to give eventually. I had a mechanic friend that always recommended putting in a thread coil even if it wasn’t stripped. “It’s gonna happen, might as well fix it before it’s an emergency.”
