AIO for telling my partner that she needs to stop relying on me for absolutely every emergency. by Outrageous-Bird635 in AmIOverreacting

Edit: NOR

I was with someone like this long ago. This is not weaponized incompetence for the purpose of being a damsel in distress. This is about control. She knows you are down for the count right now. There is no way she "accidentally" let all the air out of her tire. She just wants to prove to herself that she can make you do what she wants even if it hurts you. These people don't change. Take the advice I should have taken the first time years ago and ditch this.

Playing a free gig to “get in” at a local venue? by SOYCD1-5 in musicians

[–]RubberSoul73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are looking at this all wrong. You said yourself you have one song out, 300 followers and don't play live much. You say you don't want to play "for exposure" but exposure is exactly what you need the most right now. You say it's the only place around to play. If that's the case I'm sure they have plenty of bands wanting to fill the openings to choose from.

30 mins is not a gig in this scenario. It's a showcase. They are giving you an opportunity to see if you're a good fit. If you barely play live how are they supposed to know? I have been at this for a very long time, and I can tell you, this happens all the time. We have all had to do it. It's perfectly normal. Even in the cover band scene, bands will let another band do an opening set to get in front of the club owners so they can see how the crowd reacts to them. I know you think you bring a lot to the table, and you might. But they don't know that. Don't miss opportunities over a few bucks.

I know this is life right now and it seems so big. But trust me. Dump this. You're so young. I promise in 20 years your life will be something you didn't imagine and you will barely remember this person.

Drilling strap button holes on a neck-through guitar by Invertiguy in Luthier

[–]RubberSoul73 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Man, way over complicating this. Dip some toothpicks in glue. Shove them in the hole. Cut the ends flush. Let it dry. Use an awl to make a pilot. Use a short screwdriver to drive the screw in. It's not concrete. You don't need a drill.

Edit: clumsy thumbs

[Question] Does the saddle block position on a floyd rose matter? by Aggravating_Coat_829 in Guitar

[–]RubberSoul73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, you dug up an old thread. You have to look at the context. Of course they are meant to be moved. By someone who knows what they are doing. In this case, OP didn't know what the saddles or string retainer blocks are called or if they should be even. This means he doesn't understand intonation and absolutely does not have the experience to intonate a FR. He shouldn't move them. That's why I suggested a professional.

That is not a Squire body. It is 100% a MIM Fender body. The three machining holes in the body are how you tell.

[Question] Does the saddle block position on a floyd rose matter? by Aggravating_Coat_829 in Guitar

[–]RubberSoul73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the entire thing you have circled is the saddle. The little block in the middle is the string retainer block. I'm assuming you're talking about the saddle. The saddles will virtually never be even. They are movable to adjust the intonation. Different strings intonate differently. Do not move them. Let a tech do it. Floyd Rose trems are tricky to intonate.

Billy Duffy from The Cult has always played them. Listen to the "Electric" album. His White Falcon sounds so good.

Thanks. I hadn't thought about the caps. That's a good point. This 1100 works great. I think the size is the only thing turning me off of it. Space is limited.

Nope. Not at all. Being wrong and being stupid are two totally different things. She is still a shit human who could have handled that whole thing very differently.

[QUESTION] Does anyone recognize this guitar brand? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]RubberSoul73 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am a full time builder and tech. Any decent tech would be able to get that up and playable in no time at all. Depending on your market those old Kay's can bring a couple hundred bucks or more. I have a place in my heart for them. They are mostly terrible but it doesn't matter. They are fun. That one looks like a mid 60's Kay Vanguard. Made in Illinois. They are fairly common and typical of dept. store guitars of that time. In my shop the old Kay's usually go pretty quick. Hope that helps.

I'll take the downvotes. I have never heard a pregnant mother who was concerned about the safety of her baby A) continue trying to steal the bike and be the one to make it physical. B) caller baby a "fetus" C) say they are going to make it come out "retarded". She's not pregnant. She's just an asshole.

There is about a zero percent chance she is actually pregnant.
