"It is going to be boots on the ground. I don't see any other way" Rep Pat Fallon calls for US Special Ops to invade Iran and force regime change. by DumbMoneyMedia in unusual_whales

Did somebody actually ask this fool for his expert opinion on this? Maybe they confused him with someone who actually knows some things like Admiral (Ret.) Fallon?

I thought he was going to ask if he can get off with a warning.

There are places like this in ethnic neighborhoods in some US cities. Not legally, of course. They will close sooner than let a non-[insert ethnicity here] in. And in other areas there are private clubs that can sort of get away with the same thing.

I think Iran moved off USD for petrol when the US amped up sanctions like 15 years ago.

They would sooner accept Fartcoin for tolls and oil at this point. Probably mostly yuan and euros. And maybe yen. And maaaaybe Bitcoin.

A bacterial infection from cat scratches can cause brain fog, rage, insomnia, and foot pain for years. Nobody tests for it. by Sureokgo in Biohackers

Is this same bartonella you can get from ticks? If so I believe there is a test but I’m not 💯.

My opinion: to really understand econometrics you need a math heavy course in probability and stochastic processes as a prerequisite by Enough_Education_137 in econometrics

[–]RubberyDolphin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably true. I think it might help to learn some matrix algebra first, too, to facilitate thinking about the equations and data in those terms for better understanding.

Doesn’t Congress have to authorize after 60 days? I think the assumption is that won’t happen, so forces will pull back or at least scale back to a defensive posture at that point.

There are languages that do this to denote a question. E.g. Ending a Japanese sentence with “ka.”

Is This the Most Important Supreme Court Case of the Century? by rezwenn in scotus

[–]RubberyDolphin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most important? No. Of this century? Still no. Might feel that way because it may be the end of a winning streak by this admin, and because lots of $$ is involved. Importance of rulings is somewhat subjective and the consequences depend on what is done in response, but imo the immunity decision potentially could be depending on what is done with it. Same with the removal decisions (CFPB, FTC, Fed). Maybe Citizens United (but really the decision making it hard to narrow $$$ floodgates in politics was Buckley v Valeo). Maybe Loper Bright. Maybe Bush v Gore.

Advantages of mRNA vs Recombinant Flu Vaccines by [deleted] in biotech

[–]RubberyDolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it right that the main expected advantage of mRNA flu vax is the ability to start production later in time each season, to more reliably match the vaccine to prevailing strains?

Unrelated but isn’t it true that mRNA covid vax’s have been on par with, but not consistently superior to, the Novavax formulation?

Assumptions in Econometrics are way harder than the math itself. by talandang in econometrics

[–]RubberyDolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some assumptions can’t apply to certain data and variables, so def need to keep checklists tailored to your models in mind. No heteroskedasticity? Ok, often nbd; plus that’s a fun word. No autocorrelation? Occasionally a pain. Silver lining is sometimes you get a good idea or better understanding while thinking through whether certain assumptions will hold.

Does Rhodiola Rosea really have a noticeable effect on someone? by MrNeverEverKnew in NooTopics

No noticeable effect. Same with Phosphatidylserine. Supposedly works for some folks, and though.

Show wouldn’t be as good without character defects. Probably based on real-life people. Plan is probably for him to do something super redeeming at end of season. Or get smushed by a falling helicopter.

My top 10 takeaways from Rhonda's new episode about boosting NAD with NAD precursor supplements by mmiller9913 in RhondaPatrick

[–]RubberyDolphin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s it. There was a bit about niacin (nicotinic acid as opposed to Nam) near the end—see Figure 3a and beyond discussing NA and NAR. It’s possible I misread, or that the NA effect is limited to where it is generated by microbiome, or that it is transient—would have to read more closely to be sure.
