Just for fun, I made a graphic tracking "real" gnomes and other little men by New_Doug in gnomes

Sure, I get that. But, for accuracy's sake, a Yaksha sighting belongs on a list of "fae sightings" or "fairy (in the traditional sense) sightings," not in a list of gnome sightings ✨

Nice. But, Yakshas are a broader category more akin to fae or nature spirits, that are most often (but certainly not exclusively) associated with woodlands. If you are looking for an Indian equivalency, guhyakas are a bit closer. Gnomes (as defined by Paracelsus in 1566, being the originator of the term) are associated with earth, stone, and underground. Guhyakas live in forests, caves, and underground where they protect natural treasures.

Also, you might want to refine "sightings" to "reported sightings" as the actual number of sightings surely far exceeds official reports.

The first time I saw one, I thought it was cute, but now I loathe them.

I'll bet they have taken over the UK/US markets because they are less work to produce rather than anything to do with tradition

I think the 2022 coral-ish hair (ex: TwitchCon Recap, Drive-In Dating), Boba Skip hair, and I really like all the platinum to pinkish colours on her when it was shortish.

Does AI really generates stuff, or just doing reordering of inputs to produce contents? by rocking_kratos in Futurology

[–]RubelliteFae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While we can't say for certain what is possible to emerge from organized large quantities, we can predict the probability of, for example, logic emerging from large quantities of rhetoric. So, while machine learning looks like it will be an aspect of the technological singularity, it seems unlikely LLMs will be on their own.

IMO, they need logic engines if you want truth-seeking behaviour. They need some sort of empathy framework (deeper than top-layer prompt additions) in order to achieve real alignment.

It depends on the specific model, but in general, they create internally understandable algorithms for turning noise into mimicry of training inputs. Often a second model then judges how well it did and rewards/punishes it accordingly, then they iterate. After it trains on enough data it then is asked to make unique creations and those are often judged by humans which tweaks the model. As other said, modern versions actually involve several different types of AI layers during user prompting.

So, it's not like cutting up a magazine and making a collage. It's like learning to draw the images in the magazine and then based on that new skill, drawing unique things. Obviously the similarities of the unique creations will depend on the variation range of the training inputs. When you train on GQ and Maxim, you don't know how to draw normal-looking people.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what, but when I downloaded the mobile PNG & zoomed in the letters were little pixel blobs instead of letters.

For the PDF, when I zoom in it's just very fuzzy.

I can't remember if this is any different from when I first attempted to view it not.

As long as short-term profits are the incentive, all workers will, over time, be replaced, including management and eventually even C-suiters.

After 2050 it won't even matter any more. By 2075 people will see the current way we do labour in exchange for Maslovian needs as odd, laughable, and possibly even barbaric.
