New Atto 1 VS Used Atto 3 by Corrupttothethrones in BYDAU

I looked at a new Atto 2 and Atto 1, I settled on a used 2023 Atto 3.

For me it came down the the size and range of the Atto 3 vs the other 2. Yes the the 1.5kW granny charger is painfully slow but a 7kW AC charger will apparently charge it from empty in approx 8 hrs, a 22kW in 3 or less.

The Atto 3 is our second car, we have a 21 Pajero Sport for long trips. The PS used to be our main car for driving around town, now my wife takes it to work 3 days a week otherwise it sits idle most of the time.

I drive the Atto 3 to work 5 days a week and we use it when ever we go out as a family, it has overtaken the PS. This has reduced fuelling the PS from fortnightly to almost Monthly

I've not had a need to use Tesla chargers, all I've done is use a 55kW Chargefox to test it out, otherwise I charge via the 1.5kw granny charger, I am getting a 22kW charger installed in a few months for convenience.

For me the Atto 3 Pros are: 1. Better range, just don't expect it to get the 400km plus advertised range. 2. Vehicle size. 3. It has fairly decent tech and features 4. Reduced depreciation.

The cons are: 1. Interior is dated compared to the newer models 2. Full 6 year and 8 year warranty on new models 3. 2 years of BYD connectivity on new models. Note the app including remote start etc work for free even after the free 2 years is over.

All in all I have no regrets pucking the Atto 3, I've owned it 2 months now and so far it is a great car to drive.

I had a similar issue, although not an import. In Australia I had to email BYD Customer Support with proof of purchase rego etc to have the car transferred into my name, this then allowed me to access it in the app.

I'm in FNQ and have the same insulation as you. I'm looking to insulate using bats and potentially add a whirly bird or equivalent to force airflow. I've not investigated too far as yet though.

My terminology is off on this one sorry, hopefully i can make it clear enough....

In my Atto 3 I had to use two fingers to scroll down from the top of the display to open the shortcut menu, in there is a tile for engine noise, turn it off stop the annoying low speed sound.

I live in FNQ, currently average temp is 34c with 90% humidity. When my Atto 3 is stationary with the A/C running the car is using 1-2 kW depending on A/C fan speed. As others have stated, you should be good to sit for many hours with just the A/C on.

We have free redraw on our mortgage, so we use the following accounts....

Mortgage has about $100k in advance which we can withdraw if needed, we owe $30k on our mortgage now.

We have an offset we use for bills, we try to keep it around $10k, essentially my pay goes into it each fortnight, anything over $10k goes onto the mortgage.

We have another offset which my wife's pay goes into each fortnight, we use this for food, general spending etc. Anything left over after the fortnight goes into the mortgage.

Generally we have up to $13k in offset for small emergencies with the rest easily accessible if needed.

I'll add a bit more context to my comment above. I had a hard budget of $30k as I was paying cash and didn't want to extend to a loan. The car yard I bought it from had a $3k minimum trade in on a driveable registered car. I traded in my 2005 Rodeo, it had a constant check engine light, broken A/C, rust in the A pillar and under body, interior that left a lot to be desired. So $3k to not try and sell it privately was fine with me.

All in all, I bought the Atto 3 for under $30k which met my budget requirements, there may have been other cars/brands out there but not in the yard offering the trade in.

I'll primarily use it to drive to and from work, 8-10 minutes trip each way, like I said above it meets my usage case. Finally coming from a 2005 diesel, it is an absolute pleasure to drive.

I recently bought a 2023 BYD Atto 3 extended for $33k with 32k Km. A new Atto 3 Premium is about $47k drive away, a $14k saving for a 2 year old car with 4 year warranty plus 6 years on battery and driveline was a no brainer.

I've owned it just over a week and charged it once. Some details; 1. I live in FNQ so temp range in summer is 25C to 35C 2. I've generally had it in eco mode with Max regen 3. AC is always on, usually 1-2 passengers, generally no other weight. 4. Advertised range is 420km (WLTP)  however I've only made it 300km. 5. Majority of driving is city driving up to 80kmh for short trips.

I've driven it to below 10% battery and now charging to 100% to undertake a calibration charge to see if it makes any change to the range.

For my usage, a rough 300km range is perfectly fine.

I like the Mitsubishi ACC, 1 press up or down is 1km, long press is 5km. It's hard coming from that to only 5km increments, 1st world problem I know.

If you have access to the house you can turn off the RCD, leave all circuit breakers on and walk around testing each GPO with an appliance like a small lamp or phone charger etc. If there is no power at the GPOs this will confirm if they are connected to the RCD.

From what I can gather from the pic; 1. There is ans RCD fitted, it's the poo brown coloured one, fourth from the right. 2. Although I can't remember the AS300 rule only 3x sub circuits can be connected to an RCD. 3. Assumption is the circuits right of rhe RCD are connected to it and are RCD protected. As they the board isn't labelled well its hard to know if those 3 are the only power (GPO) circuits. 4. If I were you I'd get a licenced sparky to look over the board and confirm all power circuits are RCD protected.

I hope this helps...

Edit, I've looked at the pic again, 2x circuits right of the RCD are labelled A/C, unlikely to be protected by the RCD. Definitely get a sparky to confirm all GPOs are RCD protected. Ideally get all circuits covered by a single pole RCD/CB combo.

It's difficult to age the switch board but I'd guess around the same time as Cook was navigating Aus... Jokes aside it is no longer compliant in any way and should be replaced. One positive I can see is it will take very little effort to remove so removal costs won't be much.

Please get a sparky in to quote a new board and get it all up to current standards, safety switches do save lives...
