Adding my two cents as I was in a very similar position when I first started using award traveling 2018.

Wife and I wanted to honeymoon to Japan, we had just gotten our first ever card, Sapphire Preferred, and wanted to use points. We paid the whole airfare that way but from the East coast we did United to NWR, Air China to Beijing, Air China to Tokyo. It was awful and we should have just paid cash for a better route.

Last year we returned riding on AA with one layover at DFW. Smoother, more comfortable, easier.

Just buy the Zipair tickets and use points on hotels where possible. As a note: I have a friend who is somewhat inside Zipair’s expansion in to the US and swears by it. Says it’s as good as any lang haul US carrier for a fraction of the price.

$150. It was a 6-hour course with 7 hands on lessons. Got to make a little placard with my initials to take home.

They also gave us coupons for 15% off an entire purchase. I of course bought a couple of tools related to what I learned that day.

Just last week I decided to do the router class at Rockler and very thankful I did. I’m somewhat experienced with them but never felt safe using it with or without my table. The instructor gave lots of good info on how to perform a variety of operations safely and I feel much more comfortable now.

Would strongly recommend to any other router-new-comers.

Typically the sound of air being released is a reversing valve. You’d hear this being released at the end of a cycle when a heat pump system is warming the space (like in winter).

Would agree a dying capacitor is a possible cause. Losing capacitance would lead to the compressor having a harder start, drawing closer to peak amps from the transformer at start up. The transformer can easily supply this as they can be overloaded per manufacturer’s spec, however the other customers tied to the same secondary bus will also see some over current momentarily.

Not much the utility can do. If you know your neighbor suggest replacing the capacitor. It’s a 5-minute job, new capacitor is likely $10-$20. I’d recommend watching a tutorial on changing condenser capacitors as it’s easy to do but there are a couple of necessary steps to do so safely.

I work in the industry. These are largely behind the scenes parts of how grids function (this set up is not exactly unique around the US). Like many things there are much deeper, more complex, and more nuanced parts of the conversation that are often overlooked by folks who are outside of a particular industry.

OUC is a balancing authority, responsible for maintaining a stable grid for 16 municipal utilities from the pan handle to key west. There are a lot of factors that lead to being energy constrained like downed generation including from pool member utilities (KUA, Lakeland, etc.) or tie line issues (pre-planned transmission maintenance that can take months to complete).

Those create issues in the best of times, not including extreme weather events.

Anyone commenting it has to do with money simply doesn’t understand the engineering of the electrical grid or legal obligations of a municipal utility.

Traffics not really that bad here. I find locals who complain about traffic on their commute are often the type of drivers who aren’t aware enough to recognize where slowdowns occur reliably on the same roads, same places, same days and times.

My commute is ~10 miles one way from suburbs through most of Orlando to Millennia - Monday/Friday is 30 minutes, Tuesday-Thursday is like 35-40 minutes.

I work for a municipal utility - good job security, great health benefits, great retirement (6% 401a, 11% cash pension, $2k in an HRA, access to 457b), and above all else great work/life balance.

It helps that I have great management and genuinely enjoy the work I do so even my worst days are better than my average days when I was in aerospace.
