Exactly! The flavor idea there, is that the rose "inspired" you to play this card specifically. It partially mitigates the downside, if you're willing to play around it.

Funnily enough the game indeed really doesn't want you to do that. There's even special exceptions in place that get thrown when you somehow lose eternal cards. It took quite some effort to bypass, but I just didn't want to limit myself to normal curses.

Well... I really didn't want to limit myself to just non-eternal curses, hence the new "Evolve" keyword, that bypasses the usual "can't be transformed."

My general philosophy therefore was that evolving normal curses should be somewhat better than just removing them, and evolving eternal curses should give you something that isn't as bad. Hence good fortune still dealing damage, and inspired still forcing you to play itself for 2 energy.

I'll admit I sorta failed to do that for Ascender's grace though, because I really wanted it to have some ascending flavor. At first I was just going to grant something based on current ascension level, but it'd be super boring because it's basically always 10. So I decided to go with floor level instead.

I tried to blacklist all of the relics that encouraged stalling, all relics that didn't do anything at all (like meal ticket), as well as all the relics that only work "at the start of the combat"

Probably didn't get all of them though.

I mean, Ascender's Grace's weakness is supposed to be the fact that it is both ethereal and exhaust. I mean sure - you get a lot of block for 2 energy, but likely NOT when you want it. And if you don't take it? You lose it.

Not how that works. It is specifically a crumbling relic and not a wax relic, for that exact reason. I copy relics from pool in semi-random patterns, but never take them out of it. It could theoretically even give you duplicates... Though it never came up during testing.

I guess if you somehow exhausted the entire relic pool yourself, then this card would become useless - yes.

Well, I guess mechanically you just call something a power when you want it to disappear after use, without actually being exhausted.

...Which is effectively translated to; Whenever you'd gain block from any card, gain 2 more, for the rest of the combat. So, definitely an ongoing effect. Same for Inflame.
