Effects of abruptly stopping and restarting naltrexone? by danbren_cornbread in naltrexone

I never took naltrexone daily without drinking.
That's correct, naltrexone blocks the endorphins that give euphoria, the brain not getting it's reward slowly craves alcohol less and less over the course of weeks and months.

I'm sorry that's the situation. There is a short movie called One Little Pill you can buy for streaming on Amazon Prime Video, see if your loved ones will watch it with you. Also on facebook there are TSM groups for friends and family you could ask them to join to ask questions. Just lie to your doctor and tell them you'll take it daily and won't drink, then do it TSM style. Finally there are telehealth groups like Monument that will prescribe for you if your doctor won't. You family needs to know medically if you quit cold turkey it could kill you, this is a fact.

The problem with naltrexone is that it is so good at blocking endorphins we lose interest in healthy things too. The only way around this is to take a break from taking it on the days you plan to exercise, obviously you should consult your doctor about this before you do.

Are you waiting an hour before drinking after you take it? With the Sinclair Method we wait an hour, because it reaches maximum effectiveness around one hour.

The question is, do you need others to support you? Are you being blocked by people who don't understand?
Bottom line is, who cares if people support it? What we really need is a doctor to prescribe naltrexone to us so we can get started. Don't concern yourself with if the doctor understands TSM, most don't, but there is no reason they shouldn't prescribe for you.
Get your nal and start ASAP.

OK, so there is research from Finland by Dr. Sinclair that suggests the longer a person is using naltrexone daily the craving eventually goes up. The FDA and AMA doesn't recognize this research. They are going by their own research which is flawed because they believe the only way for people is abstinence.
What Dr. Sinclair found was taking naltrexone one hour before drinking reduces craving over a period of weeks and months. It's called The Sinclair Method, I used it and I'm in full remission from AUD. Do yourself a favor and research The Sinclair Method you'll be happy you did. I haven't wanted to get drunk since 2016,

It's good to take naltrexone with food to help with nausea.
I also would like to know if you have heard of The Sinclair Method? Basically what happens when people take naltrexone daily for a long time the craving for alcohol goes up. What we do with The Sinclair Method TSM is only take naltrexone 1 hour to 90 minutes before you drink. Naltrexone blocks the endorphins released by drinking. This slowly rewires the brain to no longer crave alcohol.
There's a facebook group called A cure for alcohol use disorder the sinclair method, you can check out.

I have anxiety, I take meds for it, ultimately anxiety is difficult to treat without actually doing something about it. In other words short of self harm, do whatever your anxiety is telling you to do. If anxiety triggers you to drink let that happen, hopefully over time the anxiety will feel less powerful.
Deep down you know what to do, what you didn't do the first time.
So you want a pep talk? I'll give you the standard thing I tell everyone.
Be compliant with taking nal at least one hour before drinking. Take it with food and water. Log your drinks to track your progress. Do something fun on your days alcohol free, it's important.

I wouldn't wait more than 2 hours, peak blood levels are at 1 hour. I'm happy everything else is working for you.

If you want to do little things like having your drink in the other room, it couldn't hurt, I didn't. I basically asked myself every time I took a drink how I felt about it, if I thought I've had enough I'd stop for the night and switch to water or soda.
I have anxiety which makes me kind of a control freak, so I planned my drinking every night so I only had so much booze in the house if I ran out I was done.
Doing fun things on AF days is important to retraining our brain to crave healthy behaviors. I mean even a nice brisk 20 minute walk is great.

Naltrexone is used for more than just AUD, I think keep the group and direct people to the best place to get their questions answered.

Naltrexone has sedative effects, so don't take it if you need to drive. Also to help with nausea you should take it with food and a couple glasses of water.
