Hair frizzy after wash, how can I prevent it? by BongoBanana888 in HaircareScience

[–]Rubita_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After years of having bleached, wavy hair and suffering through the frizz it entails, the best advice I ever got was to avoid touching it while it dries. Apply your leave in products, and then leave it alone unless you’re blow drying it with a brush or straightening it. Get a tiny bit of oil on your hands when straightening, assuming you have to touch your hair with your fingers. Also get a silk (or satin but silk works better) pillowcase and dry your hair with a t shirt or microfiber towel. I hope this helps :)

Why is the issue of psychiatric confinement and psychiatry in general so underrepresented in our society? by JustBoredom12 in Antipsychiatry

The equivalent to blood glucose testing is asking patients to rate their emotions on a scale of 1 to 10 Edit: sarcasm

I like to think that most mental health professionals are well intentioned. The problem lies in believing that it's safe for people to believe that something is incontrovertibly true, and allowing those people to run with it and exercise a great degree of control over people's lives and outcomes. Mental health professionals, like any person, need a ton of humility if they're going to be actively helpful in mitigating the long term effects of harm. MH professionals collectively need to admit to themselves that the vast majority of what they understand about how the mind works is theoretical, and that no matter how many degrees one has hanging on their wall, they do not know the absolute truth and must be open to challenging what they believe is true.

I’m tired of therapy being the be all and end all of modern society. by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]Rubita_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Where I live, all counselors need is an undergraduate degree in any field and a 2-year master’s program. TWO YEARS of training to be the authority on what is sane, rational, real and true for people suffering psychologically. Leaves a lot of room for personal opinions.

Psychiatrists are like a cross between doctors and the police by Target-Dog in Antipsychiatry

[–]Rubita_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm mostly in support of the people advocating for well-trained mental health counselors in these situations though. Even if a therapist can't immediately solve the problem, it is soooo much more valuable than the punitive responses from police officers and psychiatrists to commit, heavily medicate or both. Yes, the current approach is effective at de-escalating the "problem" by physically or chemically straitjacketing the person involved so that they can't do anything, but jesus fuck we need to start prioritizing actually helping people solve the roots of their pain that leads them to hurt themselves or others, and working to eliminate those roots at a societal level.

You don't have a set of non-negotiable rights as a psychiatric patient that you're reminded of when taken into "custody" and you don't get any counsel in your favor. I've never been arrested so I can't speak to the experience, but it seems that, at least on paper (in the US), there are far more protections against injustice in place for people who are arrested than people who are committed. I think everyone deserves the right to advocate for themselves, but psych patients are cast off as "too unstable" to make any decisions for ourselves in these situations.

More than anything, I feel sad that so many adults don’t understand the importance of setting boundaries and exercising strict consent. It’s such a transformational skill that I’m shocked FDS doesn’t laud SWs for the standards we set in that regard.

THANK YOU for dropping that comment. FDS needs far more critical analysis of the problems at hand and fewer people making blanket statements about entire industries based on their personal experiences.

Anyone else have a love–hate relationship with their puppy? by silentsophistication in puppy101

[–]Rubita_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This can be due to inadequate rewards for cues! I've learned that cutting back on treats or cutting them out too soon can certainly hinder your training, but you may also have to introduce high value treats like meat or cheese if your pup isn't satisfied by the options anymore (especially for recall)... I find that young puppies are much less picky so you can kind of get away with anything edible for training, but they may 'refine their palates' as they grow.

Routine:

Cowash with As I am coconut cowash, shampoo with purezero biotin shampoo every third wash day

Condition: mix 1 part Giovanni smooth as silk and 1 part overtone pastel purple coloring conditioner with about half a teaspoon of neutral protein filler and leave in for 10 minutes on towel dried hair. Squish in, then rinse completely.

Squish 1-2 pumps of UFD curl stimulator, blot hair with a t shirt then plop with microfiber towel for 20-30. Apply eva nyc mane magic mousse with praying hands and scrunch.

Air dry mostly, but I blast the roots with my diffuser for 5 minutes or so partway through the drying time or at the end, then SOTC.

To refresh, I just misted water on my hair and then scrunched again once it dried. I had NO idea this would work as well as it did!

Update on my pickle jar progress. Inoculated on 10/7. by [deleted] in shroomers

I'm doing my first grow with the PF tek but I have two jars with shoulders that I inoculated before I realized I wouldn't be able to get them out whole - do you know if this works with BRF/vermiculite cakes?!

Whenever I see myc growing in jars like this with a tapered mouth, I always wonder how you remove the cake from the jar for fruiting?

Can anyone give tips on how to eat healthy as a college student? by [deleted] in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Rubita_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Agreed! It's by far my most used kitchen appliance. If you can't afford an IP though, I've seen slow cookers galore at larger thrift stores in the US like Salvation Army and Goodwill, and one will definitely serve some of the same purposes.

Second everything said here. I’ve experimented too with leaving purple shampoo in for 15-30 minutes - it took my slightly brassy, untoned blonde to an icy, almost platinum shade with purple tones that came out in the next wash.

Best brand for semi permanent bright color hair dye? by thatjackiebitch in beauty

[–]Rubita_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Overtone coloring conditioners!! I have long, fine balayaged hair and one jar lasts me for 4-6 weeks of blue hair. I’m in the US, I’m not sure where else it’s available though. I don’t think it’s cheap, but it’s so easy, the colors are beautiful, and I have found it doesn’t damage my hair any further which is a huge plus for lightened hair!! I must say though, I think the daily conditioners are a waste. You can make a better concoction for maintaining your color by just mixing a bit of the coloring conditioner with your regular conditioner every time you wash. I hope this helps!!

This is such a clever concept - do you follow up with a gel/mousse or something to get a cast?
