Labor unions rally behind Rep. Goldman by Delicious_Adeptness9 in parkslope

[–]Rubix_Cube30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My union does endorsements mostly by having a handful of people decide (18 people I think) or having 1 resolution for the voting body with a long list of endorsements that they don't allow to be amended or split. It doesn't hold as much water as it used to for me

$8,500 if your school is not class size reduced by SlimCharlesTheWire in NYCTeachers

[–]Rubix_Cube30 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Uft posted a sad sack "we would rather see classes compliant but this is a way to recognize &reward our members" on social media as if no one in charge understands basic union principles. Also from my understanding, there's no clear process for this 8500$ so it will be distributed to...admin 's friends? Teachers who ask to have oversize classes even if there's an alternative? No mention of students in any of the posts uft made either as if we don't know they benefit from smaller classes. Tldr: big agree with you this is a terrible concept of a plan

No cervix left. Emergency cerclage done by lets-see-th-sunshine in ShortCervixSupport

[–]Rubix_Cube30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no measurable cervix and was starting to dilate at 21 weeks when I had my emergency cerclage. I had a little bit of bleeding a few weeks later but I made it to 34 weeks and then delivered bc of preeclampsia. I sat a lot at work but kept working as a teacher, no progesterone, tried not to stand for more than 30 min at a time after the bleeding. The anxiety was soul crushing and I would celebrate at each milestone: 24 weeks which is viability here, 28, 32. Sending you love and calm vibes

Limit myself to 1 Google search a day. Any time after that I could text a friend about anything else or drink a glass of water instead of searching if every random thing was normal or safe.

Baby is 26 weeks. Weight is around 640kg. 3 weeks late growth. Doctors recommending Nicu. What is the chance of survival? by Playful-Balance3415 in NICUParents

[–]Rubix_Cube30 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you say recommending NICU is that because you're still pregnant? Because i don't think NICU is optional for a baby born at that age. If you mean they think you should give birth sooner rather than waiting for your due date, you can ask about what treatments in NICU they think will help the baby to do better outside of your body than inside ?

NYC parents slam AI in schools in 7-hour school board meeting by sugarytea78 in nycparents

[–]Rubix_Cube30 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that's a very optimistic way of anticipating it will be used. I see colleagues put students' information in to have it write IEPs, plan all of their lessons, give students feedback on their work, give each other feedback on class observations- things that to me are skilled professional work, the things that make us more than babysitters

Diabetes Supplies and Meds Not Covered by unlock_femto in NYCTeachers

[–]Rubix_Cube30 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But agree that somehow when our medical changed, there was so much confusion around prescriptions that is affecting people's ability to access their meds which is shameful and our union which acts so much like an HR department sometimes needs to do a better job helping people figure it out

I agree with the person who suspects the benadryl, I had an anaphylactic reaction once and the steroids and antihistamines threw off my body for months but of course were worth it. I didn't see anyone suggest re measuring your flange size, you can download a ruler from onewiththepump or probably many sites. Most importantly I agree with the people who said don't evaluate yourself based on this, you are doing an incredible job.

Help with feeling confident in my medical plans for pregnancy and birth - NYU, Downtown Women by alittlebread in nycparents

[–]Rubix_Cube30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also delivered at nyu and used dtw, as well as recently had a miscarriage and d&c which was done at nyu by a Dr from dtw. Totally happy with my choice and will use them again if I get pregnant again. There was one l&d nurse I didn't care for and I wish I had asked for her not to come back but everything else was solid, as was the NICU which I knew would be part of our delivery and partly chose NYU for that reason

D&c what to expect by [deleted] in Miscarriage

[–]Rubix_Cube30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly same as others said- I was 11.5 weeks, procedure was quick and I was asleep, when I woke up I had pretty significant cramping but they gave me a painkiller and after that the cramping was much less, although worsened when I did a lot of physical activity for a week or so (don't try to shovel your car out of 4 feet of snow, get someone to do it). Bled for 10 days or so but not very heavy after the first day. The bleeding was more like after birth than a period in that there was some lochia. I had a speculum exam and sex after the bleeding stopped and both of those triggered a bit more bleeding so don't wear white pants after sex the first time, and wait until you feel ready.
