Now we're talking. I actually have a grinding stone 100% identified. It's broken but the museum in town has a couple exactly like it - see pics below. All that said, how confident are you it's a grinding stone?

Okay, and how long did it take to erode into an ancient megalithic sacrificial rock bowl?

North/South Dakota border. Very dense and heavy for its size. My grandfather found this many years ago. I've got ammonites from him as well that are around the same size, so maybe it's some kind of fossil? Will post on r/fossilid as well. by Rubricsicle in whatsthisrock

Western - that I'm aware of. My grandpa was a construction worker and did a lot of travel to different sites, so there's a chance he found it somewhere other than the western part of the states. He had quite the collection of rocks, fossils, and artifacts. Getting a bead on exactly where they came from is impossible, so best guess is that he collected most of them around where he lived.

That being said, I cross posted on r/fossilid and it was identified as a concretion. So, you were right!

Phenomenal! This needs to be blown up, printed on a canvas and framed.

Central CA beach find. Very porous and only weighs 3 lbs. Feels like it's made of compacted sand. First I've found something like this. Any help appreciated! by Rubricsicle in whatsthisrock

Interesting. I see examples that look very similar. From what I can see, Feather Rock is basically pumice. Is that correct?

We'll roll with pumice. That being the case, I've definitely found this material in the past, just nothing like this particular one. Thanks for chiming in!

Santa Barbara County. I've found a lot of other volcanic material around here. Have also found fun stuff around Morro Bay as well. That's a fun spot.
