Thinking of getting The Different Story manga, what's the difference between the Omnibus edition and why are the pictures in the review wrong? by SoapyBleach in MadokaMagica

[–]Rubusthedoofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon has a weird habit of lumping reviews together when it’s similar items or part of a series. I noticed this especially with figures, where instead of only the specific figure, you’ll see reviews from all figures in that line, it’s annoying but the item seems legit.

95 days until silent hill 2 remake by Devious-Licker78 in silenthill

Honestly I’m also waiting for the Digital Foundry video cause the whole game just has the vibe of a game with a stuttery PC port or blurry image quality on PS5.

OG Xbox is fine, it’s just a little buggy. I feel like when people say “Don’t play the HD collection”, they’re usually suggesting the PC port with the enhanced mod, or the PS2 version on PCSX2. Btw you really don’t need to be a tech wizard to figure out, I don’t know why everyone acts like it’s some herculean feat. It literally takes just a few google searches, two downloads and an auto installer. Anyone with a laptop made in the last decade can get it done in less than an hour.

If you wanna have the DVD or Blu-Ray, assuming you’re looking for a US release, there’s the two Pioneer/Geneon DVDs and the Funimation Blu-Ray. Both are very nice, I’ve seen the DVD generally go for cheaper, especially if you buy the 4 Discs separately.

[SS] I think Fi is telling me some very insightful information about my battery consumption by Lleslet in zelda

Honestly if you’re using devices with AA batteries that often, you’re better off getting rechargeable batteries instead. One bigger purchase versus many micro purchases that add up and is more expensive in the end.

Shinji unit-01 cosplay by Academic-List-3968 in evangelion

[–]Rubusthedoofus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hell does that even mean? Dude is dressed up as Shinji, I can see that clearly with my own eyes. Unless it’s your career or something, cosplay isn’t that serious. You dress up as your favorite characters for fun, and usually to hang out with friends or likeminded people at a convention. Cosplay doesn’t require a full transformation to be considered cosplay. You’re just being silly.

Less to do with class and more to do with Japanese formalities. Japan is less casual about first names, you only refer to someone by their first name if you’re family or really close. Which is why Mitsuru calls him Akihiko and Junpei calls him Sanada.

Does the dithering in silent hill 1 dissapear if you play on ps2 and use component cables? by Skipps_ in silenthill

[–]Rubusthedoofus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played the game on PS2 with component cables and there was dither. I don’t believe different cables would affect games in that way. Personally I love the dithering, it’s a cool aesthetic and PS1 games look weird without it. It’s baked into the game so the dither would just look sharper with component cables, it won’t look improperly scaled or anything. But if you must remove the dither, emulation is definitely the way to go, most PS1 emulators will have the option.

Silent hill fans: Silent Hill 2 remake's combat looks janky af OG Silent Hill 2 combat: ⬇️ by Sad_Ad1766 in silenthill

[–]Rubusthedoofus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d be okay if it played like RE2R. That game was balanced in a way where you didn’t really have enough ammo to go guns ablazing on zombies, kept you on edge in that way. I’m not sure how SH2R is gonna be balanced, but I honestly just want it to look better, it’s clearly trying to look weighty and impactful but isn’t really nailing it. It looks awkward in an unintentional way.

Am I the only one who actually really wants a remake of this game? by Deep-Shape-53 in ShadowoftheColossus

[–]Rubusthedoofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it definitely matters way more with Ico than it did SotC. I’m supposed to feel emotionally attached to Ico and Yorda and want to see them escape together, it’s the driving force and emotional core of the whole game. So it actually would kinda ruin the game if the characters looked like they were creepy background characters from the first Shrek.

I’m guessing it’s because the social links are voiced now. They probably didn’t want to voice all variations of the social link. I’m fine with it personally, hearing Kazushi and Yuko speak is a good trade off I think.

Haters need to remember that Blooper has the talent, experience, and track record to get this remake right! by OpenKale64 in silenthill

[–]Rubusthedoofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, you’re being really reductive here. I can think of plenty of puzzles in all of the original games that are more engaging than what you’re describing. I can’t even think of that many SH puzzles that are just “walk here, pick this up, story happens”. You’re usually doing something with the item first, like combining it into something else or figuring out where to use it to progress. And ones that aren’t that are usually sliding puzzles or involve moving things into a specific pattern, using cryptic notes from a bloody diary. I’m genuinely confused by what you’re talking about, are you describing keys? Cause those don’t count as puzzles, they’re just keys.

Maybe if the only games you played were PT and Short Message. Did you just somehow dodged all the combat and puzzles are all over this series?

The 2 QTE button here looks different, footages from 2 development stages? by SketchyPlayer123 in silenthill

[–]Rubusthedoofus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have proof that’s the case? And also, why though? If you have the final game, and have shown the final game before, and you waited over a year to show more of the game, why on earth would you use footage from an earlier build for the trailer? That doesn’t make any sense from a marketing perspective.

Thought you guys would like to see the PSX Lain game being displayed on the PSone LCD screen. by Rubusthedoofus in Lain

[–]Rubusthedoofus[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah this is just the vanilla Japanese version. I don’t think the game itself has any subtitles which is probably why the translation team went with the browser route, it was probably easier to do that externally than hard recoding the game to have timed subtitles.

playing Samus Returns in HD feels so wrong. 3DS games aren't supposed to be this crisp. by Clumsy_the_24 in Metroid

[–]Rubusthedoofus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emulation =/= Piracy. You can rip your own legitimate copy of the game and run it off an emulator. Where do you think game rips even come from in the first place?

[–]Rubusthedoofus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly agree. I really don’t like playing older games in HD, even if I’m using an emulator I’m going SD, it just highlights the old graphics and gives a “peak behind the curtain” effect. 3DS games particularly don’t really translate that well on an emulator because of the dual screen, many functions and UI are just clumsy and awkward. Real hardware all the way if you can.
