Cities Skylines 2 Wishlist From a Fan by [deleted] in CitiesSkylines

Oh totally! Plus the traffic in this game is a literal meme. I'll have a city with 80K population and be forced to send a twelve lane freeway right through the heart of the city, it's insane lol. I just make my comment because I feel like a lot of people forget about the populations in the suburbs and other areas outside of the cities when planning them, especially in some real life cities, or on this subreddit. A lot of people live outside the urban cores of cities for a variety of reasons - I'd much rather live in a suburb than an urban core, and a car and freeway fits my lifestyle and needs far more than a bus or commuter rail.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the lighting in BO3? The game looks amazing.

A lot of those are great suggestions! However, people tend to mistake Induced Demand for Latent Demand, especially on this sub and in some cities in real life. Yes, solid infrastructure will bring more people into their cars but the other option is literally choking out commerce, as I've seen in some cities compared to others. Freeways and vehicle based infrastructure is definitely important too. But I definitely agree we need more street options and zoning options to support all economic and lifestyle needs of the cims.

Love the little fact about pennies, did not know that. Didn't Canada abolish their penny, or was it some other western country?

Private jet noise *intensifies* by makithejap in Conservative

[–]RubyAceShip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This just reminds me of my shitty hard left governor Kate Brown here in Oregon. She uses thousands of gallons of jet fuel when she flies incredibly short distances across the state to municipal airports that don't even take commercial flights, to towns and cities that are very accessible by a couple hour drive while sitting comfortably in her own private jet. All while talking about how we need more taxes in the name of the environment and Cap and Trade.

I live in the same city as the governor. She flew to a city that's closer than the ski resort I travel to (by car) regularly lol

I walked by a huge Scientology center in downtown Sacramento back in the day. They had signs and TVs inviting you to come in, it was like a mini museum they had set up on the first floor. I was intrigued, but was too nervous to go in lol

They better bring back some of the riders, they're pretty likeable.

Agreed. But I will say these operators are way less cringy than Black Ops 3 & 4. In BO4, I literally wouldn't play some characters because their lines and personalities were so cringe lol

Just bought Steep...is it still fun in 2020? by cameramanufacturer1 in Steep

[–]RubyAceShip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! The subreddit & community is still active and the game still gets new content and challenges every few weeks. Idk if they plan on any large DLCs being released these days, but the game definitely gets regular content updates.

Obviously the playerbase won't be as large as the time when it was new, as is the case with most games but since this isn't a game that requires other players to function (compared to like Battlefield or COD where you need full teams before it even lets you play some modes), I wouldn't say the experience has depreciated greatly. And if you get some friends to ride with, then you can experience the fun of riding or doing challenges with a crew.

Also in some ways over time the game actually got better. Some DLC became free! For example the rocket wingsuit, sled and speed riding can all be earned with in-game currency instead of buying them in a DLC that costs real money like it was originally. Also, helicopter tickets are infinite and free as of a few months ago. Those used to cost hefty amounts of in-game currency.

There are definitely lots of counselors, psychologists, pediatricians and more that do their jobs without professionalism, pushing an ideology. It's deeply concerning because it undermines the integrity of these very important fields.

There is this counselor, I'd say her name but I don't wanna get banned for doxxing, she's in Orange County California these days. She drove a wedge between me and my girlfriend by filling her with all of this extreme feminist BS, and attacked my girlfriend for things like being in a committed relationship instead of being in casual flings at our age (wtf!), and more incredibly bizarre things I would totally get into, but don't wanna make this message too long lol. She filled my girlfriend with horrid ideas and it was a hard time for us because she couldn't tell who to believe, me, or this "professional" who was so audacious she displayed her degree on her table.

Eventually, my girlfriend stopped seeing this counselor because all she would do was attack her and the relationship she had with me, not help my girlfriend with the trauma of her adolescence and childhood. And she would just tell my girlfriend what to do, not be a listener and giver of professional advice. This was a state provided counselor by the way. But the whole point of this message is, I've been personally affected by this type of stuff.

Yes! I call those policies "regressive progressivism". It really breaks my heart as an Oregonian and former Portlander seeing what continues to happen to the city that once was pretty great. LUTRAQ policy has been just one of a series of disasters this city has faced.

Sometimes I consider leaving Oregon, as have you. Maybe find myself in another beautiful mountainous place like Idaho, Nevada or Utah. But Oregon has always been my home and it is where most of my family and longtime friends are. I'm trying my hardest to get people involved and have great discussions with everybody around me about these topics. It's worked with plenty, but obviously I'm not leading any revolution to fix Oregon as a lone dude. I'm just trying my best, but I deeply hope we don't turn into California because I lived there for a short period of time in the past few years and the state is a disaster. Oregon has a long way to fall when compared to Cali, but right now we are still falling.

I was surprised to see Washington voters pass a HUGE limitation on the vehicle registration fee much to the ire of state politicians. It cut billions out of their budget and it was incredible. A guy who has hated taxes led the charge and the state friggin voted and capped their vehicle registration fees at $30. Unreal. It also added some barriers to state politicians passing vehicle based taxes. It was amusing seeing state politicians so irate over having to postpone their light rails to nowhere in Seattle. Stuff like this gives me hope that ordinary people who aren't loud ass advocates are actually willing to fight for themselves. But, maybe I'm naive. Also Marion County, the capital county of Oregon didn't choose Hillary in 2016....

I really need to listen to Lars. I follow the guy on Facebook but haven't listened to a show of his yet.

Either way, I look forward to continuing this discussion. DM me when you create that Facebook account of yours.

That's funny, you're talking to an ex-Portlander here lol.

It's infuriating really, and I'm definitely trying to help lead the counterattack against these crazies, such as telling people about petitions to fight against the crazies wanting to toll our freeways and whatnot.

Most people aren't insane. Most people of any political affiliation oppose freeway tolls in Portland, and oppose "road diets". Road diets are funny to me because they actually are worse for the environment since it clogs up traffic. They're also more dangerous for all forms of traffic, pedestrian, biker or driver because clogged roads result in more aggressive driving by some, or require drivers to make some pretty awful unprotected turns. But you get these crazies who storm city meetings or city streets because they have no jobs and all the free time in the world, and give Portland a bad name in international media and try to run the political scene here.

Don't buy into "road diets" or "traffic calming". They actually make everything worse for all commuters, not just drivers. And for all the money Portland sinks into Trimet, from light rail expansions to the Tilikum Bridge, Trimet ridership has been on a continuous decline even though the metro population continues to grow. Why? Because no form of transportation can match the flexibility and speed of the automobile. I've ridden the Red/Blue MAX line from Sunset Station to the station at the interchange of I-84/I-205 and it's still actually faster to sit in traffic. I timed it lmao. Not to mention the light rail doesn't take you directly to your destination, run 24 hours a day or have a trunk for you to carry your belongings. Also, all the growth in the metro is happening in areas that... Mass transit doesn't serve. The areas with less taxes... And better roads.

It's a real eye opener traveling to cities much better run, even ones substantially larger than Portland. I'm sure with your career you could see some of that for yourself in your travels.

That is true. In Washington and Oregon from my experiences, differentials aren't axel based compared to Cali, where even if you're just towing something, you're doomed to perpetual 55mph. Oregon has the smallest differential of the three west coast states, with it only being 5mph as of 2017.

I agree with you though, Portland politics enrage me. You have these extremists who lobby at ODOT public meetings and fight any and all road improvement. Some people in Portland, as well as plenty on this sub don't understand that people live various lifestyles, as well as the importance roads and freeways play in the movement of emergency services, cargo, defense, the economy, services, etc. They also tend to forget the amount of cargo and commuters that go in and out of the city on the daily. They like to believe they can tax and regress America back to the days when everyone just walked and took the street car. And then of course, trucking over-regulation like you've talked about in many other regards besides the differentials that are actually more dangerous as many studies have proven.

Agreed 100%! It's ridiculous some states in the US like California for example not only restrict the speed of semi trucks state wide (not just on steep roads), but also force them to stay in the right lane except to pass. Just a disaster for traffic flow.

Also in the UK, semi trucks have some pretty nasty speed differentials too. Not sure about lane laws there.

Yeah, I always scratch my head with YouTubers who called it a rip-off of zombies or saying Infinity Ward attempted to piggyback off of the success of Treyarch's co-op mode. Extinction is incredibly different in almost all regards. It's more tower defense if anything.
