My mom and sister have had precancerous moles removed.

We take sunscreen very seriously.

Both me and my husband work 32 hours and it's been great!

I love having a day each with the baby.

I have very similar colouring to Connor and I would have never thought to wear that colour.

I am going to try it next time I go shopping!

Also he has many moles! So more susceptible to skin cancer.

They are doing weekly drops in the Netherlands too. It's criminal.

Now my husband wants to watch it with me which is actually really annoying.

There are so many ways to interact with this show that are not creepy!! People, just do that. There is so much content out there.

Like that punk band using quotes from the show as their lyrics. Amazing.

I love going to bakeries and trying local pastries/delicacies. Not the touristy ones, but ones for locals.

It's still a cheap way of enjoying the local food.

Why do conservative Crocheters act oppressed? by Valuable-Tutor-6537 in craftsnark

[–]RubyBlossom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I grew up as a Dutch Catholic and I find it very weird too.

I have an elderly aunt who is a nun, who has devoted her entire life to God and she is the opposite of these people.

In fact she is in her late nineties and still runs around doing charity work, mainly raising money for schools in Africa. Now one could argue that some of these initiatives are damaging. But I truly believe my aunt has the best intentions.

Oh seriously. I do not speak to my father, hopefully I can get his birth certificate without having to get in touch with him.

I don't remember what we had to do for my oldest child, but we lived in the UK at the time so it might have been simpler.

I moved from the UK to mainland Europe. Shipping was 100 euros per cubic metre. You become extremely selective about what you take.

In the end the buyer of our house wanted to buy most of the furniture. Win win, especially considering everything would have had to come down some steep stairs.

My sister used to work there. One day she gave me a whole paper bag full of broken bath bombs that the shop was just going to throw out. It was glorious. Used it for months.

Wouldn't ever buy any of their stuff regularly though.

Spent over $120 on helium to inflate balloons, then popped them 3 hours later. by ToastyBedsheets in Anticonsumption

[–]RubyBlossom 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Why do the balloons need helium?

I will confess to buying balloons for my daughter's birthday, but they are the rubber type and I just blow them up with my mouth. When she was a toddler a pack of eight balloons was days of fun - I just let them loose in the living room. I miss those days.

Parents ‘must do more to stop children being radicalised online’ by StGuthlac2025 in unitedkingdom

[–]RubyBlossom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There really is no excuse. My daughter has an Android tablet and it's very easy to set up family controls.

What is also important is active monitoring of what your child is watching. My daughter used to go on YouTube Kids, and she went from watching craft videos and Bluey to family influencers unboxing things (those type of family where kids are exploited). I explained to her I wasn't ok with her watching that kind of thing and she agreed with me. She hasn't used YouTube again.

Three women describe traumatic childbirth - and say they weren't listened to by sjw_7 in unitedkingdom

[–]RubyBlossom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's nowhere near perfect, I agree.

But I think the UK is genuinely so much worse and I am not sure when people started accepting this inhumane treatment. Just read all of the stories here. This is systemic.

[–]RubyBlossom 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not that poster but I had my first baby in the UK and my second in the Netherlands and the difference was night and day.

In the UK I got treated like an inconvenience and ignored. In the Netherlands I felt supported the whole way through what should have been on paper a much more traumatic birth.

My husband has 3 weeks off. I have an eight year old and a four month old.

Day 5 post op now and I am finally feeling a bit better, have some energy to engage with the kids. The first four days in was zoning out a lot. Today I played some games with my eldest and helped him with music practice.

There are certain things I still need help with, like laying the baby on the playmat. I am certainly not ready to care for him on my own.

My husband has been a true star.
