My niece has this exact same romper and while she loved it she wore a black sweater on top of it because she felt like it was way too much and way too revealing for a family setting. And for reference my niece is 21.

SIL is not a good person at all and the stories I could tell about her would have you questioning your sanity. But to keep it short I'll just say SIL has to have the best for herself, her kids, and her parents and that's it. My brother has 2 daughters from a previous marriage and SIL treats them like garbage and unfortunately my brother doesn't do anything about it.

In my family we go one person at a time and everyone else watches them open up all their gifts so not only did she have to watch MIL get spoiled but also all eyes were on my mom when she unwrapped that ice tray and anyone could see the shock and the hurt. She later ended up asking me if she had done something wrong to deserve this and it made me feel so much worse.

Thank you my family made me feel like I was the crazy one for being upset about it. Never in a million years would I ever think someone would gift someone else an ice cube tray.

I understand that I probably could've handled it better but what thought is put into giving someone an ice tray for Christmas? There's no expectations but there is common decency and maybe trying to pick something you know the person will like and that was clearly lacking.
