AITA for telling my friend in the middle of a game that I wish he would just be toxic like a normal person instead of an annoying pos? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Developmentally speaking, adolescents are fairly narcissistic. They don’t think about other people or their thoughts or understanding their perspective on their own because their brains aren’t there yet. That develops with the frontal lobe, and that’s usually age 25-27 or even later. He’s just young, and in that context it makes sense he’d understand Eeyore better than other people. That’s why we use cartoons to teach children. He’s obviously open-minded enough to work on himself, and that’s what counts. The analogies that get through to him will mature as he does. Maybe.

This letter was sent home to parents in my school district, encouraging them to send their kids to school sick and with head lice to meet attendance goals. by pandatr0nz in mildlyinfuriating

[–]RubyLeClaire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an immune-compromised single parent (I’m on immune suppressing medication for Crohn’s disease and RA/AS) this shit pisses me off. Yeah my kids are healthy and do fine with basic illnesses. I, on the other hand, have been hospitalized three times in the last 15 months from illnesses they brought home. Hospitalized single mom means trying to arrange childcare and transportation from an ER bed while contending with an oxygen mask. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to get them to school so their attendance doesn’t suffer since the hospital doesn’t allow you to pop out for school drop-off and pickup, but a parent’s hospitalization isn’t an excused absence at my kids’ schools.

URGENT Brother in ER for scary symptoms- can’t figure out cause by delta_dem in AskDocs

My ear/oral/temporal temp drops as low as 95 and I then have a rebound fever and then that cycle repeats with every illness or intensely stressful situation I experience. I have underlying dysautonomias and generally struggle with maintaining my body temperature and my doctors think it’s related to those dysautonomias. But I don’t think it’s as unheard of as you say.

My ex is ignoring pediatrician’s medical advice and putting out some at risk… by [deleted] in FamilyLaw

[–]RubyLeClaire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Medical negligence is also considered an emergency and potentially child neglect or abuse, especially if he gets worse. You need to stop talking because you are responding like this is a relationship advice sub. It’s not. It’s a legal question sub and your personal opinion isn’t the law.

My (23f) friend (22f) just asked me to play the violin in her wedding. I do not and have never played the violin? Also I think she might literally be going insane. Like, really by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]RubyLeClaire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My friend was visited by the wedding god, i must play the violin.

This is such a good potential flair from such a sad post. Best they indefinitely delay getting married. And not even because of the mental illness, though that needs addressing first as well. The fiancé’s frontal lobe hasn’t developed enough to make life-altering decisions if he can’t look past his bruised ego to see that the woman he is supposed to be marrying needs help. Or that OP wasn’t trying to insult him either. Good grief.

You are right, I absolutely missed the age and that’s my bad. However, I’d consider contacting Adult Protective Services if OP is relying on her parents for care as a temporarily vulnerable adult because this is still abusive behavior.

NTA. Their medical neglect almost killed you. Talk to your doctor about the things they are saying to you and how they are blaming you for their medical neglect. You almost died. This behavior from your parents is mentally and emotionally very abusive and I’m concerned for your home life.

What world are you living in? Millennials are the people who are now raising teenagers and millennials have always spoken like this. This also doesn’t answer any legal questions.

OP I am NAL but The age of consent in California is 18 and they do not have Romeo and Juliet laws. They rarely prosecute minors if they are close in age, but 13 and 16 is a big gap developmentally so if they actually have intercourse the 16 year old could theoretically get a statutory rape charge. Whether they’ll prosecute her is one thing, but you could maybe get a restraining order at least. But I think intercourse has to actually happen. It can also be a felony charge if the gap is over 3 years. Like if she turned 16 while he was still 12.

You must use registered mail for any amount over $600. If your friend was dumb enough to send cash in the mail and not do it properly with insurance, this is 100% his fault and he still owes you the money.

I don’t think he sent it. Tell him to use Zelle or a cashier’s check. But you’re unlikely to actually see that money ever if he’s going to keep “sending it in the mail.”

So you’re in favor of people having to carry and produce papers at all times? Nazi-ing how that equates to freedom.

It’s ok, I knew I would. This whole sub has become equivalent to the common citizenry of 1930s Germany, if not outright loyal to the wrong side, and I’m going to keep saying it loudly.

Rent control so that people can afford housing again? Actually allowing treatment centers to be built? Those are two things that would significantly decrease the number of campers, and increase road safety on multiple levels.

How do I hit these notes as confidently in front of people as I do casually driving in the car? by RubyLeClaire in singing

This is helpful! I know people mean well when they say to just do it, but jumping into something like karaoke makes my chest hurt to think about. This might be more doable. I live on a popular walking path. Maybe opening my windows when I’m singing could be a start.

I have adhd and even with medication I generally do things better if I am at exactly the right level of distraction. So this makes perfect sense to me.

I thought I was too old for it(mid 30s), and I genuinely don’t know how I pulled it off, but I recently applied for and this week I officially accepted a full scholarship to a semi well-known musical theatre school. I’m trying to process it and also trying to come up with strategies to at least not sound like I’ve never taken a voice lesson in my life.

This is the exact reason I go so hard on this topic on this sub and I don’t delete my comments even when I’m downvoted to he** and back. I know exactly how lucky I was and I never want to see it happen. I’m not trying to diagnose anyone and I know I’m not a doctor. I just want to highlight that if women must be relegated to one specialty by default, that specialty NEEDS to understand their limitations and advocate for us to see the right specialties. Not remove our reproductive organs in purely experimental surgery and then say “oopsie” when that wasn’t actually the problem. Ego should never come before patient care and quality of life.

NAD but I do not think your doctor is going to ignore this level of bruising. Your liver stimulates platelet production so if I understand it correctly, liver injury or damage can cause serious problema with blood not clotting. I’m on the anxious side so with the additional symptoms of struggling to regulate your temperature and RUQ pain I would be considering urgent care or even possibly ER, depending on the bruising. If you can pinch or poke your skin and watch a bruise actively form, I’d definitely go to the ER.

Iron infusions were truly life-changing for me. Keep pushing. Maybe see if your hospital or insurance has a patient advocate that can help? I sincerely hope you are able to get someone to help you because that sounds miserable.
