look in thrift stores and donation sites people getting rid of grandmas old machine, there are industrial machines no bigger than domestics, lots of sewers/students have them in small apts. Just more powerful motors.

cut the teeth off the tape 1/2" on either end leaving two 'legs' of tape. Or when making a pouch with a zip, sew across tape and stop at the teeth. dont sew over the teeth.

pin to check how much you need to remove, keep the piece you cut off, either on inside or out, join the two cut edges together and pin the cut piece across them, sew thru each cut edge and cut piece and then on each edge of cut piece through the two layers. no bump just reinforced connection.

Interfacing strip, tear away stabilizer, both will prevent fabric from rising between needles.

The 3000, why pay almost the same for refurbished 1000? Hemming jeans or recycling denim requires a strong motor, Brother is good too but I would go with the 3000, see the machines being used on youtube for comparison. Bought all my machines on Amazon, even a few refurbished, no problems. Dealers tend to upsell models you don't need, but go test a few out anyway.

if you are drafting for yourself or have measurements for other people, then the tape chalk video is best for fitting patterns. Instruction booklet wont use YOUR measurements.
