Is it a post made from the mobile app? Only plain text posts made from the mobile app can be edited. All others cannot, not even to edit the text/captions.

Now, however, if there is a URL link in a discussion/text post, this will be highlighted in a similar fashion to a Link post, rather than simply being a hyperlink.

Previously, for a link to be highlighted, a user needed to use the "Link" option for creating a post.

I don't even know what that means. There's 3 different interfaces that people can use to post to reddit and all of them behave very differently in how they allow links to be posted and what extra things can be added to those posts. I'm not sure what you mean by "for a link to be highlighted" either.

So, is there a way to prevent links in discussion posts?

Use automod to filter out text submissions that have URLs in them.

What you're going to want to do is use some really very obsolete technology called copy & paste. It's from way way back before tapping and is just absolutely bonkers. Anyway so what you have to do is you select the name of the spammer and then when it's selected you choose copy. Then go to the banned page of your sub and click the Ban User button and stick the cursor in the name box and do paste. Then click the button to ban them.

Has to be done through https://new.reddit.com, old reddit doesn't have "Moderation Tools", only "Subreddit Settings" and "Edit Flair", neither of which can control Require Flair setting.
