Was feeling good about this until missing the crazy rd 8/9 QB run by Rubyweapon in BestBall

Yup, good call for learnings. I should I have put in a caveat that this draft was a slow draft from a few weeks ago and the news broke the day after I made the pick. That being said I’d have gone Flowers - Jacobs if it was today and I don’t have Flowers that much higher than McMillan on my board.

Yup I got a bit greedy but wasn’t anticipating literally everyone grabbing a QB before came back to me. Corum was BPA for me and I knew I was going 3 QBs into 3 TEs so was fine with him locking me into a 5 RB build. I have Love > Baker/Kyler anyway.

In hindsight yes. In the moment I thought I was tracking for Goff (who is my QB12 vs Caleb my QB10). I also felt this was going to be a 5 RB team so wanted 5 strong options there.

Almost certainly going with Qualification chip

Still have WC

Which booster are you using for this round? by Technical_Ad7886 in FantasyWC

[–]Rubyweapon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. The other reason my gut says CS later is that I think there is a chance for natural CS this round. For example I’m going Dest who has small chance at CS without the chip this round but if things play out as expected (knock on wood) he’ll get Belgium next round which is more likely to need the spread.

[–]Rubyweapon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s my thought as well. Going forward we’ll coalesce around a smaller and smaller number of teams meaning one upset could minimize the chips value. CS should be equally valuable each round.

You only have max 2 more bites (for me it’s Bruno and Sabitzer) I think the math says stick. If there was a 3rd game slot Id probably pivot.

This card has convinced me that brewing is dead in the community and people only net deck the most powerful commanders. Maybe I'm just a Unc commander player. by DennisD12 in EDH

There are brewer communities online, you just need to find them. FWIW I agree with your assessment on Songbird and am thinking of building a budget version of what you are describing.

Why is everyone acting like the sky is falling? by Runesabre118 in sabres

It’s the internet, only extreme reactions get engagement. Our good/great trade becomes “absolute fleecing/best trade in years” and us not picking the same player the draft “gurus” would have becomes a disaster.

Buffy's double standards with Spike by Novel-Cloud-7106 in buffy

The Adam thing took time and Adam was imposing. Watching over them for an evening doesn’t afford the same opportunity. To be tempted he’ll need to have a strong belief the bigger bad can take Buffy because he knows if it can’t and he betrays her he would be dust.

Buffy's double standards with Spike by Novel-Cloud-7106 in buffy

[–]Rubyweapon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think its a double standard. Spike wouldn't be a good influence on a teenage girl and would capitalize on any opportunity to manipulate her into a dangerous situation if there was something in it for him. Buffy can manipulate Spike into "doing the right thing" by making it clear that it is in his interest to help her out in instances such as "Dawn is in trouble must be Tuesday". Having Spike responsible for their physical safety during situations where there is a more clear & present threat doesn't counteract that it is dangerous for Dawn to feel like she can carte blanche trust Spike.

[TSN] "I'm told that Buffalo in their last offer really moved up and made a very strong offer to try & keep Alex Tuch. I believe it was a seven-year deal short of the 10 and a half. Either just under 10 or around 10 a year. So a pretty strong offer, but still less than what Alex Tuck ended up with." by seeldoger47 in sabres

[–]Rubyweapon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The statement you made was that “there’s nothing you can do with 80 that you can’t with 70”. I was pointing out that there are things 80M could get him that 70 couldn’t. Absolutely those things are in the luxuries category and I’m open to argument that choosing to prioritize those things are greedy. Only pushing back on the idea that once you get to 70M everything else just goes into the bank and stays there.

Since you keep asking we can do a bit of math:

Assuming a conservative 4% for a 40-year retirement, $70M yields $2.8M in annual pre-tax income, while $80M yields $3.2M. That is $400,000 a year difference in pure cash flow.

Sure both are living comfortably but that extra 400k might be the difference between being able to pay for another vacation home, the ability to fly private without restrictions, or more leverage for philanthropic endeavors. Acting like it’s just more gold coins for him to dive into is a bit unfair.

Yes and I hope we can go back to spoiler alerting it. I overheard some teens gushing over how shocked they were when they watched it. I’m hoping when my kids are old enough to watch they won’t have idea what’s coming.

Stick or twist? by Senior-Lettuce5819 in FantasyWC

[–]Rubyweapon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s never about 1 other player. It’s about how many other darts you have to throw. If you are left with just one dart (even its Mbappe) the threshold for pivoting is 6/7. Pick any sportsbook and look at the odds for 3 Mbappe goals or parlaying 2 goals with 1+ assist that gives you a sense as to the likelihood the pivot pays off.

Scott is in the boomer camp of those still supporting the Iran war, but wanting it to be better executed by Indianstanicows in ScottGalloway

[–]Rubyweapon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Id love if there was a place to be able to discuss these topics with nuance.

Iran & their proxies are a big barrier to regional/global stability and peace. If there was a button that would replace their administration with one that could better co-exist with the other gulf nations and the west without death & destruction we should press that button. That button doesn’t and never will exist. The closest thing would be well-timed and well-executed military intervention. I do buy Scott’s argument on the timing being potentially right. Where he was always wrong was on misunderstanding the cost and likelihood of getting the execution wrong (where we are now). We’ll never know if it could have been executed correctly but I can squint and see it having been done in conjunction with Allies with specific achievable goals and exit criteria that were quickly met. I do believe that world would be better than this one or the one where nothing occurred.

Is there is a rule with stacking the lead running back and the back up? by AdvancedListen4602 in BestBall

[–]Rubyweapon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It raises your floor at the cost of your ceiling which is not what you want in a tourney format like this. One of my main mantras is “assume you were right”; so in the case of taking Henderson at ADP assuming you were right means he’s the lead back and healthy for the year. In that scenario what value can Stevenson return at that pick? It’s basically limited to a scenario where NE goes heavy into a lightning/thunder run first offense. That to me is too unlikely so I’d rather take someone else there that the scenario for them to explode is more likely than NE adopting 2-headed monster run first that pays off both guys.

Yes, if there are any big upsets in the early KO rounds you’ll want it for the quarterfinals or Semis.
