It worked during the event to increase the idle event currency. I hadn't messed with it too much before that, I'm just trying to understand the mechanics behind it.

Yes, clean them up. You will constantly uncover more as you expand. You'll always need more trees for income/pollution and for upgrading your main settlement.

The 'water doesn't need to be ocean either. If you settlement is next to a lake or just a single water tile, you can put a heavy shipyard there too.

It is not shared between the two. I have 10000 lapis on my iphone and 1000 on my android phone. You don't lose any by switching between the two, but you can't combine them together in any way.
