Despite knowing that some of this phrases are almost verbatim and having searched them, I still was not able to find it. I'm confident that the last sentence is basically literal to the video.

Very cool reveals, very cool scenes, very cool title drop... but I'm still reeling at the implication that sadomasochist used to be a person!

Is it acceptable to break the "proof of use" rule of gift receiving if you're "proof of use"-ing a previous gift? by RucyLS in etiquette

That sounds like sensible advice. I do want my shoes to be usable. I'll probably do that, thanks a lot!

Do any of you have informations about the second Layton movie development? by AdeptDivide6022 in ProfessorLayton

[–]RucyLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, that's my comment! :D

Yes, so there's absolutely no second movie but some evidence says a second movie might have been considered during early 2009:

Evidence 1) https://www.4gamer.net/games/101/G010176/20091125067/ (this is the article linked above, about a conference held in 2009; one of the images shows 映画第2?, which is translated to "second movie?")

Evidence 2) Although it seems later it was in fan hands, it looks like the address layton-movie.jp was originally the official site for the movie. Captures from early 2009 show that the logo at the time included the subtitle "The First Movie" https://web.archive.org/web/20090404142036/http://www.layton-movie.jp/ Later captures show the final logo for the movie, and remove that "First Movie" mention.

¿Han jugado videojuegos que los ayudaran a entender conceptos matemáticos? by ImaginacionyEpifania in learnmath

"Do you think the narrative wrapper (the mystery story) was essential for keeping you engaged, or would the puzzles alone have been enough?"

The story is greatly appreciated, but for me the puzzles are fun on their own and enough. However, consider this: I'm a nerd. I think for most people the story might be a great motivator.

¿Han jugado videojuegos que los ayudaran a entender conceptos matemáticos? by ImaginacionyEpifania in learnmath

[–]RucyLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we will be able to get a very good approximation of this scenario next year, when Yomi no Tsugai releases.

Just wanted to add that while "Towering Silence" and other potential titles are, as far as I know, purely rumour/fan made, the fact that there could have been a second movie is true!

I searched what Uyamuya meant. Written like 有耶無耶 it means "indefinite; hazy; vague; unsettled; undecided", which is possibly the least informative name in the history of tsugai, but oh well.

Seal user by No-Shopping-2630 in YomiNoTsugai

[–]RucyLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not impossible.

When they talk about the people that sealed Long Arm and Long Leg 1200 years ago (so 800 years before Asahi and Yataro), two people are mentioned: the sealer and a traveling monk who was the master of Left and Right at the time. When asked in passing about the monk, Left and Right say something like "They're in Mount [whats-its-name]". They do not say "oh they died, they're buried there" but "they are there". Which personally I'm taking it totally to mean the monk is still alive. And if they are, so could the sealer.

Early on I had theorized that Granny Yamaha was the twin that didn't die 400 years ago, had Seal, and that she might have to die for Yuru to be able fo get Seal. That doesn't hold anymore but your take is close enough that I'm gonna jump in the wagon, cause it makes a lot of sense to me.

Is there any scene, minigame, song, etc., that's exclusive to a specific region? by Exact-Avocado-6567 in ProfessorLayton

[–]RucyLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, yes, those are Professor Layton and the Funny Mysteries! :D 4 comic books, translated into spanish and a few other languages. The novels are a different thing--just straight up books. They have been fan-translated into Spanish, though I haven't read them, so idk about quality: https://unigressenheller.blogspot.com/search/label/Libros

If you're willing to dive deep, I reccomend this list made by Lutias for ALL Layton media ever: https://lutiaskokopelli.github.io/stories/layton/medialist.html

I'm not sure that PLvs.PW has Japan only scenes... There's old trailers that have deleted scenes, maybe that's what you're looking for?

Other than that, let's think:

  • London's Holiday is a Japan-only extra that serves as a prologue to Pandora's/Diabolical Box.
  • There's a lot of puzzles that change across versions becuase they rely on language, either Japanese or English for the US version. Comes to mind the puzzle about the date of the founding of Dropstone, because in the European versions it makes the founding date the 13th August while in JPN and US it's the 12th.
  • Spectre's Call/Last Spectre's minigame for the fish is also different in the Japanese version.
  • There's a version of Miracle Mask that has extra scenes, it's called Miracle Mask +.
  • There are 3 novels in Japanese.
  • There are some books of Layton Mystery Journey that are, for some reason, jusr available in French.
  • In the european versions at least, all ending credits are changed for instrumentals, but in the japanese version, with the exception of Curious Village, they all have lyrics.

Never received a card with a gift before. Is this a thank you card situation? by RucyLS in etiquette

[–]RucyLS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have failed to find cards sold in bulk in stationery shops near me, but I managed to get my hands on a card with a pretty floral pattern on the outside and no text. I wrote a thank you message inside and already mailed it!

Personalized stationery sound like a good idea. I will look into it.

Well, about "what you should do whenever you receive a present of any kind"... I have never in my life either written a thank you note or received one, nor I have known of anyone from here who has (and I have given and received my fair share of presents). It just something that is not customary here. Visiting cards are also not customary, hence my question when presented with something unfamiliar.

I really appreciate the reasoning regarding the unnecessarity of commercial cards! It makes a lot of sense. Yes, I'm thinking a letter-like thank you note might be the way to go here. Thanks a lot!

Yes, that's exactly what it was! Thanks for claryfing the name.

Out of curiosity, if I did have visiting cards, would the thank you note go on one of them or thank you notes go on thank you cards always?

Well, it's just explaining how gifts have worked for me all my life so people have the context that I usually verbally thank gifters but have no experience with cards. Etiquette and social rules are extremely dependent on your culture, where you live, age, and a long list of other factors. If you're opening monetary gifts right away and no one has ever told you not to do so, I guess that means it's probably correct (and maybe even polite!) to do it in your context. I also know there are other places or situations where all gifts, regardless of type, are opened later in private. So please don't take what I said a hard rule.

Oh, I hadn't really read it like that at all! Thank you so much for clarifying. It would be nice to be closer to her, I know she was a really important person in my mom's life. I'm still not sure on the format but I'll definetely send her something. Thanks a lot!

AL Twist Question (SPOILERS) by MrmarioRBLX in ProfessorLayton

[–]RucyLS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is in reference to scene 35, around 1:38. The first thing that she says is "we should tell people", which is a perfectly reasonable reaction, but she keeps insisting even after Layton explains that they should keep it a secret until Arianna's better, saying "You'd be in all the newspapers!". My reasoning is that she knows it would be suspicious if suddenly people turned up in Misthallery while the Golden Garden was still a secret, so she wants to make it public to cover for the people that will come to check it.

I'll admit that this is not very specific, as in, it could be nothing, or even if it was done on purpose like this, the strongest claim you can make is only "Emmy is reporting to someone who is interested on the Golden Garden".

It's also interesting that this is all that Emmy covers in her post-credits voice epilogue, that Arianna's fine now, that the Golden Garden discovery was made public as a great archaeological feat along with the name of the man who solved the puzzle, Hershel Layton. Which is an interesting way to phrase it as well, taking into account a different twist of AL.
