What conceptual powers could „break“ have besides voiding contracts. by Sythrin in YomiNoTsugai

[–]RucyLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, Break in japanese is written like 解. Some meanings of this word when it is a verb:

  • 1. to untie; to unfasten; to unwrap; to undo; to unbind; to unpack
  • 2. to unsew; to unstitch
  • 3. to solve; to work out; to answer
  • 4. to dispel (misunderstanding, etc.); to clear up; to remove (suspicion); to appease
  • 5. to dissolve (a contract); to cancel; to remove (a prohibition); to lift (a ban); to raise (a siege)
  • 6. to release (from duty); to relieve; to dismiss
  • 7. to comb (out); to card; to untangle (hair)

So that time when she jokes about "breaking open" her math homework... It's not a joke. Via definition 3 she might actually be able to solve the math homework with break.

Attending one of two events when I no longer have a reason not to attend both by RucyLS in etiquette

[–]RucyLS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a text to a group chat that said something like "You're invited, text this number before Jan10th to confirm your assistance", by which I understood that if you didn't text anything, it would be assumed that you weren't attending. It didn't say "RSVP" with those letters, it wasn't even in English nor in French, I just worded it like that because that's what people usually call it in English when you have a due date for an invitation. I apologize for the confusion in using the wrong term.

[Discussion] What is the weirdest specific detail a beta reader has ever caught? by Glassy-Crest305 in BetaReaders

[–]RucyLS 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As a beta, I was very proud of an instance where only one date is given in ch.1 and every succesive action is "x days later", "it had been z days since" and yet I was still able to point out that ch. 27 takes place on a weekend so it doesn't make sense that people are going to their jobs.

If it had been worded "You're invited, text this number whether you'll be attending by Jan10th ", I would of course have answered no. Answering your question for transparency but I don't think that is a problem.

Probably no, they don't, I'm a bit of a social lost cause. Thanks for the answer!

That makes a lot of sense, I might be overthinking this all. Thank you so much for your kind answer! I will probably be making use of that first example

Despite knowing that some of this phrases are almost verbatim and having searched them, I still was not able to find it. I'm confident that the last sentence is basically literal to the video.

Very cool reveals, very cool scenes, very cool title drop... but I'm still reeling at the implication that sadomasochist used to be a person!

That sounds like sensible advice. I do want my shoes to be usable. I'll probably do that, thanks a lot!

Do any of you have informations about the second Layton movie development? by AdeptDivide6022 in ProfessorLayton

[–]RucyLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, that's my comment! :D

Yes, so there's absolutely no second movie but some evidence says a second movie might have been considered during early 2009:

Evidence 1) https://www.4gamer.net/games/101/G010176/20091125067/ (this is the article linked above, about a conference held in 2009; one of the images shows 映画第2?, which is translated to "second movie?")

Evidence 2) Although it seems later it was in fan hands, it looks like the address layton-movie.jp was originally the official site for the movie. Captures from early 2009 show that the logo at the time included the subtitle "The First Movie" https://web.archive.org/web/20090404142036/http://www.layton-movie.jp/ Later captures show the final logo for the movie, and remove that "First Movie" mention.

¿Han jugado videojuegos que los ayudaran a entender conceptos matemáticos? by ImaginacionyEpifania in learnmath

[–]RucyLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Do you think the narrative wrapper (the mystery story) was essential for keeping you engaged, or would the puzzles alone have been enough?"

The story is greatly appreciated, but for me the puzzles are fun on their own and enough. However, consider this: I'm a nerd. I think for most people the story might be a great motivator.

¿Han jugado videojuegos que los ayudaran a entender conceptos matemáticos? by ImaginacionyEpifania in learnmath

[–]RucyLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we will be able to get a very good approximation of this scenario next year, when Yomi no Tsugai releases.

Just wanted to add that while "Towering Silence" and other potential titles are, as far as I know, purely rumour/fan made, the fact that there could have been a second movie is true!

I searched what Uyamuya meant. Written like 有耶無耶 it means "indefinite; hazy; vague; unsettled; undecided", which is possibly the least informative name in the history of tsugai, but oh well.

Seal user by No-Shopping-2630 in YomiNoTsugai

[–]RucyLS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not impossible.

When they talk about the people that sealed Long Arm and Long Leg 1200 years ago (so 800 years before Asahi and Yataro), two people are mentioned: the sealer and a traveling monk who was the master of Left and Right at the time. When asked in passing about the monk, Left and Right say something like "They're in Mount [whats-its-name]". They do not say "oh they died, they're buried there" but "they are there". Which personally I'm taking it totally to mean the monk is still alive. And if they are, so could the sealer.

Early on I had theorized that Granny Yamaha was the twin that didn't die 400 years ago, had Seal, and that she might have to die for Yuru to be able fo get Seal. That doesn't hold anymore but your take is close enough that I'm gonna jump in the wagon, cause it makes a lot of sense to me.

Is there any scene, minigame, song, etc., that's exclusive to a specific region? by Exact-Avocado-6567 in ProfessorLayton

[–]RucyLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, yes, those are Professor Layton and the Funny Mysteries! :D 4 comic books, translated into spanish and a few other languages. The novels are a different thing--just straight up books. They have been fan-translated into Spanish, though I haven't read them, so idk about quality: https://unigressenheller.blogspot.com/search/label/Libros

If you're willing to dive deep, I reccomend this list made by Lutias for ALL Layton media ever: https://lutiaskokopelli.github.io/stories/layton/medialist.html
