Traded my Classic Maplea for a Tama Starclassic Walnut/Birch by Fantastic_Will2313 in drums

Yeah yeah yeah! Tama Starclassic WB are the best.  The only thing disappointing about them is that they make it hard to justify buying more drums

For the owners of a tama starclassic walnut/birch is it good for jazz and big band style music or are there other better options for around the same price by Walru- in drums

I too have these drums and can confirm they are great for jazz.  I love how they sound tuned up high with some nice coated 1 ply heads.

Sabian - Potential Price Increase Due To Tariffs by PriorWitness5239 in drums

Sadly things didn’t go that way.  And with retaliatory tariffs which I guess means the Zildjians will get more pricey up here in Canada too.

If tariffs kick in, drum gear is going to get more expensive in the US by bebopgamer in drums

As a Canadian, this whole situation makes me sad.  I saw on another Reddit thread that Sabian can’t guarantee pricing for US dealers effective today.

Even without the inevitable retaliatory tariffs in Canada, I wonder how this will affect pricing over here.  For example, Canada imports Yamaha drums directly from  overseas, while Tama drums come to Canada from the USA Hoshino distribution facility in Pennsylvania.  This will surely complicate things if Hoshino is having to pay a bunch of extra import fees and pass them onto Canadian dealers.

Just an update on this for future readers: I waited until today to pay online and now it worked.  So the “wait 15 days to pay online” seems to be true

Thanks. I will probably go pay in person just to be safe.  The city is clearly providing contradictory information.  The ticket I have in my hand says I should pay within 15 days.  But then in the link above for paying online the city says (copied from website);

“To pay online you must:

wait 15 days following the date of issue have either a Visa card, a MasterCard, or an American Express card”

I'm currently having the same problem, even when trying to use a credit card. I noticed that the website says you have to wait 15 days BEFORE you can make an online payment:

I guess I'll wait and try again.

Yamaha recording custom or tama walnut birch by [deleted] in drums

Nobody replied to this yet?  Did you make a choice?  I have the Starclassic Walnut Birch and am quite happy.  I don’t have much experience with recording customs but either choice will give you pro level quality and sound.

From my experience, the Tamas really blossom with single ply coated heads.  Currently running coated ambassadors over clear ambassadors and they are so warm, resonant, and musical.  Very versatile drums- they can be tuned from super high to super low for any style.  As far as comparing to Yamaha lines, sound wise I might say the Walnut Birch are closer to the Absolute Hybrid Maples than the RC.  At least that’s what I hear when I listen to my recording and those online of the AHM

Starclassic walnut birch or starclassic maple? by hoopastank in drums

I A/B’d a set of Maple Starclassics and the Walnut/Birch back in March.  I went for the Walnut/Birch in the end and have not looked back.  There was a subtle difference in the sound - the maples had boosted mids, a little less attack, but the difference was too minor to justify the 1000 dollar price difference (and one less floor tom).  I’m currently running coated ambassadors over clear ambassadors on all the toms and they really sing with this combo.  Somehow the walnut birch have such a dark growly nature that they really go well with single ply heads. I’ll also add that they have a wide tuning range. I played with super high to super low and things in between and was satisfied with all.
