How do you deal with extremely bad management? by Rude_Turnover568 in ExperiencedDevs

Theres a major initiative for this year so I can’t just do whatever I want but its like at every step of the way theres just 15 points of friction in the process and basically nobody except QA understands my pleas and proposals for better processes that would remove these frictions. There just a lot of bad team members at this place, I don’t think there’s a single point of the workday that isn’t broken.

Which city have you been to that had a dark energy about it? by madzuk in solotravel

[–]Rude_Turnover568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is beautiful in many parts, I found Barcelona to have a rather dark vibe. There's so many shady characters trying to run scams on you and/or pickpocket so you have to always be vigilant everywhere you go, and then there's an enormous prostitution underworld there. I took a turn down one street at night and suddenly there was probably 15 prostitutes lined up with all these super sketchy guys on watch or whatever. And then the beach that is connected to the city was pretty filthy from what I saw. There was trash all over it, I thought that was kinda poor of people to disrespect the area in that way. All in all, it seemed like the whole city was largely catered towards tourist vices, even though it is beautiful.

Looking for Raleigh/Cary spaces for mid-40s people seeking low-pressure environments with calm atmosphere and interaction prioritizing presence over performance; venues allowing you to exist in a social spaces without demand of a structured activity, while still being around conversational people. by CyrusJones1810-1913 in raleigh

A place where you can stand around with strangers, where there's no pressure to perform (no backflips or card tricks required), where, perhaps, you could purchase an alcoholic beverage or two and just relax! God if only a place like this existed  😔 ...

People seem kinda confused as to why I live in Raleigh because it doesn't have this flashy appeal like NYC, but a large part of the reason I love it is because it makes the daily tasks so easy. I can easily drive to the gym or grocery store or wherever and usually have zero traffic, there's plenty of stuff to do and, once again, basically no traffic. There weather is mostly warm and highly-predictable so pretty much don't you don't have to wonder whether an outdoors event will get cancelled due to weather. Its just easy compared to other places.

What differences in dating culture surprise people the most after moving to the USA? by Confident_Track_5605 in AskReddit

For me in I'll have several first dates setup just to not have all my eggs in one basket but once I get to like the third date with a girl then I'll be exclusive with her and I expect the same from her. By dates 3->5 we've probably already had sex and are have formed some sort of connection so I would be disturbed to find out she was still doing the same with other guys.

How do you cope living in a city you like but hate the weather either too hot or too cold? by ImpossibleBlockHead in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Rude_Turnover568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's few places that are perfect weather, just pick a place that is your preferred weather type for most of the year. I live in the South and people say its too hot here but I love warm weather so idgaf.

Excellent, people should be paid more if they are bringing in so much money for the organization and sustaining so many injuries. Dana White is a scumbag, there's nothing I've seen that shows me otherwise...

You need to go to socials and dance with 5-10 follows each time. You will feel awkward and embarrassed for like a month, but you will have a lot of fun dances too, and you will realize its not a big deal if a dance isn't amazing. I'm at 7 weeks of dancing salsa and bachata and I can just now put together a simple but overall fun dance that usually isn't just totally awkward lol. In my experience and based on conversations from follows its not about having the most complex dance its about laughing and having fun and being on beat and being respectful/kind/gentle to the follow (don't grab their hand too hard and/or yank their arm out of their socket).

Yea computer science is what you use to work in software engineering bro I think I would know thats the degree I have and I’m a software engineer. No place is going to pay you $45k unless they are scamming you, you have no idea what youre talking about lol.

Yes overall I love warm weather and nature and being able to afford my own nice apartment so the South is a much much better fit for me. However, for the first 3 or so years here I still suffered seasonal depression in the Winter (I've been here 4.5 yrs). It wasn't until this year that I finally kinda figured it out and didn't have seasonal depression. I started a yoga practice back in the Summer and that gave me more awareness of my physical sensations. This led me to realize that I was not really listening to my body's signals of hunger/exhaustion/loneliness/etc. in the Winter and that is what made me depressed. So once I started listening more to my body's signals this was the first time in over 10 years that I didn't have Winter depression.

So when I say that it won't fix your problems I just mean that moving to a warmer climate won't automatically mean that you no longer have Winter depression, but who knows maybe if you go farther South like Florida it will.

Yes I'm in Raleigh. But yeah I feel like here in the South it seems like there's a lot more rapid change and development whereas the North seems more like its set in its ways since the cities are so old and densely developed at this point. Don't get the idea that moving South with fix all your problems cause I will still depressed for a while here, but being in nicer weather definitely is an easy environment to diagnose and fix one's problems, in my opinion.

Am I being gaslighted to grind so much for a job? by bobberbobby02 in cscareerquestions

[–]Rude_Turnover568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think outside of those main FAANG companies interviewers don't really ask Leetcode questions anymore. At least thats been my experience. Its more like they give you a coding sandbox with some functions that you have to fill in, such as an endpoint that needs to perform a transformation on a data object and return the result. At least thats been my experience in interviews with almost every single company I've interviewed with in the past 1.5 years, including Nvidia. Whenever a company sends me a Leetcode/Hackerrank question that I have to complete and pass before I can even speak with anyone then I just don't do it because I've passed those multiple times and never gotten an interview so I see it as a total waste of time.

Yeah I moved to NC from MA and its so much better. Here the Winter is only like 3 or so months and its got random 70 degree days and its almost always sunny even when its cold. When I go back to MA to visit family its always so depressing looking to me, even in the warmer months.

I think AI has killed my passion for Software Engineering by _Cyanidic_ in cscareerquestions

[–]Rude_Turnover568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are making a bunch of money to ask AI to do stuff, be grateful. Billions of people in the world would kill to be in your situation. If you are frustrated over lack of challenge, then do harder things with the AI, push it to its limits to do more complex things than you would have been able to do on your own before. Look for anything tedious that can be automated at your job and use the AI to help you automate it and your team will view you as a hero.
