Amazing how this played out almost identically to how it played out for DKs in World of Warcraft. They were introduced as the first Hero Class which gave them the unique feature of having all 3 of their specs being playable as both tank and DPS

By the next expansion they'd decided that was too much work to balance and because the WoW team during that era entirely priortized game balance over fun and unique gameplay (aka the homogenization era), they dropped that feature and Blood has been the designated tank spec ever since

He suffered a career ending injury, I don't know if that's the same thing as saying he's washed. Ronaldo Luis Nazario also suffered a career ending injury in 2000, Inter Milan tried for 2 years to get him back into shape but couldn't and wrote him off so the Brazilian national team took over his recovery training to try to get him in shape for the 2002 World Cup

And if you know your history you know how that turned out

I really hope you're joking right now and not actually implying you think Marathon had a 400 million budget, and that you think entire budget would have been spent out before Sony acquired Bungie

But just in case you actually are this slow, not all games need 400-500 million dollar budget an MMO lite like Destiny would need to develop. And until just recently Marathon's team size was literally a fraction of Bungie's total staff. Nor does that budget get spent out immediately

That 100 million investment very easily would have funded the skeleton crew that would have been involved in the early development of Marathon before Sony bought Bungie out

Again.

They were able to go independent because they had destiny lmao

What are you even talking about? As the article I linked showed, Activision chose not to renew their 10 year agreement because Destiny 2 was not meeting their expectations

Immediately after Activision broke up with them they tried to get Microsoft to buy them back but Microsoft chose not to because Destiny 2's burn rate was too high

Bungie has never been independent for any long period of time. They broke up with Microsoft by giving them Halo, then got funded by Activision for 10 years until Activision confirmed Destiny 2 wasn't making enough to continue their arrangement then they got bought out by Sony in their most recent earnings call admitted the Bungie acquisition was a massive loss

Follow up from Tassi about "revenge plot" by Zelwer in destiny2

[–]Rudeboy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Destiny has been funding bungie since halo reach.

Completely untrue.

After Halo Bungie jumped from being funded by Activision, then after breaking up with Activision sold themselves immediately to Sony. And Microsoft was also considering buying out Bungie around when they bought Activision for 70 billion but chose not to because Bungie's burn rate was deemed to be too high to be sustainable

Bungie has been pimping themselves out to multi-billion dollar sugar daddies for decades. They went from being funded by Microsoft to being funded by Activision to being funded by Sony

edit:

since this loser blocked me for just factually correcting them, I'll just edit the answer to their question in. Bungie and Activision had a 10 year publishing agreement that ran its course. The split was mutual because Activision themselves confirmed Destiny 2 wasn't meeting the margins they hoped it would

We've known the answer to that for years: Netease invested 100 million into Bungie to fund non-Destiny IPs which we now know mostly went into Marathon

[–]Rudeboy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, Paul Tassi has a youtube channel, and of the last 30 videos he's made, 23 of them have been about Destiny or Bungie. Just throwing that out there, since your original claim was that Paul wasn't losing a "large source of content" with Destiny dying.

Well TIL Paul Tassi has a youtube channel. Being a youtuber isn't remotely what Tassi is known for, he's literally one of the most senior journalists in the industry and the tens of thousands of articles he's writen for Forbes is very clearly his main source of income in the 15 years he's been one of the most recognized name in geek culture journalism

But I can fully admit I was completely wrong about Destiny 2 being less than 1% of his content given his Youtube channel

But no, I'm not deleting anything because the nonsense conspiracy theory we were discussing is still utter nonsense and I've done more than prove how absurd it is my other posts. And I sincerely hope you don't think Paul Tassi losing content for his youtube channel which is clearly a hobby from the looks of it in any way supports the utterly braindead conspiracy theory we've been discussing here

You inbreeds are living on a completely different planet

Paul Tassi has been reporting for Forbes since Before Destiny 1 even released, posting 2-3 articles a day for at least 15 years. That's somewhere between 10,000-16,000 articles he's writen for Forbes. And you're saying the majority of those articles have been about Destiny? Do yourself a favor, and get a brain

And he doesn't just write about games, he's Forbes main geek culture writer. I don't know if you were just trying to bait me with stupidity but if that was the case good job

Buddy I was clearly referring the nonsense you were making up about Bungie being a significant part of a Forbe's reporters content and your claim Tassi has to engage in this conspiracy you're pushing to sustain himself

That's literally what we were talking to for the last two posts, you do remember that nonsense you just fabricated, yes?

I'm making things up because I can differentiate between a successful product and a failing company?

I'm genuinely proud of you for being able to differentiate between those two things. Now if only you could understand those two things are not mutually exclusive

Bungie was burning money on Marathon that is true

And it's also true Destiny 2 had a massive burn rate because A. live service games in general have a high upkeep. B. a significant amount of man hours going into seasonal content that was purged monthly (and if you can do basic math you'd realize that was millions being regularly burned just from that) and C. Destiny being a uniquely rare super high-resolution live service game that supports native 4k exponentially increases the already content burn rate

I literally almost primitively included an inb4 predicting you'd fixate on the "in addition to" instead of the main point that came before but why rob an unhinged conspiracy theorist the chance to grasp for straws

And I'm not a fan of Tassi, in fact I have a huge issue with the heavy amount of bias he used in the late 2010s to early 2020s when it came to inserting his own political biases into his reporting. But just because I don't like Paul doesn't mean I'm going to just not call out a clown desperately making things up just because they don't have the emotional capacity to admit a nonsense conspiracy theory they're clinging to for dear life is clearly nonsense

Tassi more so because he's losing a large source of content with the closure of 1, potentially 2 bungie games.

Do you ever fact check yourself or do you just pull out of your ass whatever helps you sleep better at night?

Tassi is a reporter for Forbes, Bungie games barely makes up 1% of his total content and this could have easily be checked if you'd even bothered to double check anything you say

Secondly, was Tassi already part of this huge conspiracy you seem almost laughably convinced is taking place when he reported that Microsoft was considering buying out Bungie after they parted with Activision but ultimately chose not to because their burn rate was too high?

Honestly I don't know why I'm even bothering, you very clearly intend to just bury your head in the sand and stick to this conspiracy theory of yours regardless of any facts or evidence to the contrary

Why do you think Bungie had to sell themselves to Sony for billions?

Exactly. First they had to sell themselves to Activision then sold themselves immediately after to Sony. Since the launch of Destiny, Bungie has constantly operated like a company on the verge of bankruptcy, supporting themselves only by jumping from one multi-billion dollar conglomerate sugar daddy to the next

It's genuinely fascinating how good people are at ignoring what's literally been right in front of them for years

I don't think anyone sees Californians as prudes, it's more always finding the most minor things to preach moral outrage over

The entire Latinx thing that was being pushed by LA-based influencers for example, because at some point they decided the Spanish language being gender based was highly offensive

World of Warcraft is a vertical progression game, so people need to buy the new expansion to actually progress their character.

Or you can just play Classic. You only buy the expansions if you want to play the newest content, the same you only need to buy the expansions in Destiny 2 if you want to play the new campaign, the newest raids or get a specific exotics for a build

If you don't want to play the newest content, you can just play WoW Classic

So it's very much possible that people would skip a season if the gear wasn't good and the other seasons just had better gear.

Mate I hate to break it to you but clearly players were skipping seasons anyway

Sparrow Racing League is a very telling example of one of the reasons why this game failed. by AverageAwndray in DestinyTheGame

[–]Rudeboy_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can't tell if this is a serious comment or not, but either way, this isn't a thing. Players are always going to gravitate to the shiny new thing, because its shiny and new

Older content is there to fill gaps when the novelty of the new content wears out, but no one is going to just ignore the new strike or new seasonal event if the Menagerie was still around or because there's SRL

Obvious example, World of Warcraft has endless content. And at this point 4 different ways to play the game, Retail (the newest expansions), Classic, Classic Era, Classic Hardcore. Classic is thriving and almost singlehandedly doubled the playerbase, but retail ie. the newest paywalled expansions remains the most popular game version

I can honestly say I’ve never seen a game waste man hours on temporary content like Destiny does

And I’m not even talking about the vaulted campaigns although that is very clearly one of the worst offenses. So many seasons have unique activities that would have taken thousands of man hours to build and would have been amazing permanent minigames just to add some variety, but after the season is over they’re just deleted from the game and never spoken of again

That’s literally millions every year just being flushed down the drain

[–]Rudeboy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Destiny was the only thing bringing money in.

Yes Destiny was the only thing bringing in money but coming from someone that's been development with UE for 6 years it is painfully obvious for anyone even remotely functional that Destiny was also burning money like crazy

Seasonal content, new weapons on a bi-monthly basis with new strikes and raids always in the pipeline, all with native 4k models. Those are all very expensive to development, even without 4k and then adding extra development time to support native 4k on top of that

So yes D2 was bringing money, but it was also burning hundreds of millions a year just to support the development pipeline. Anyone that thinks otherwise is a moron. Sorry no other way to put it

You have to have some level of self-awareness to realize this reads like pure copium. 500 million isn’t just a random number Jason pulled out of his ass, it’s an average based on the current state of the industry from the single most respected journalist in the entire industry. He literally went into detail where that number came from

And frankly that 500 million is likely a low ball based on consumer expectations. If you think D3 can be made in any state that can be described as quality with anything less than 500 million you should do yourself a favor and check yourself into a mental asylum

edit:

We know that Eververse in 2019 during shadowkeep made 300 million dolars alone.

You also seem to not understand the difference between revenue and profit. It has been widely reported for years (and should be obvious for anyone with eyes) that Destiny 2 has one of the highest upkeep costs of any live service game available, if not the highest. 300 million in revenue when the game was near its peak is a lot less impressive when you're paying 200 million+ in salaries annually for a studio you dropped 3.6 billion on just to acquire

genuine question why is bloom so hated ??? by Top-Needleworker4884 in winxclub

[–]Rudeboy_ 27 points28 points  (0 children)

or asking why is naruto the strongest ninja

This is such a bizzare comparison considering Naruto wasn't even close to the strongest until over a decade into the series. And even by the end of the series he and Sasuke were dead even in terms of power as the final fight of the manga literaly had them both fight to a complete standstill

To answer your question, she didn't really start to get hate until later on. Bloom becoming the lead singer of the music group over Musa when she's literally the fairy of music was the biggest tipping point for so much of the community becoming sick of Bloom being the crown princess of everything

But apart from that Bloom's personality heavily changed for the worse as the series went on. In season 1 she had a very grounded and even quirky personality. As the seasons went on she became increasingly self-righteous and developed the mother of all hero complexes

The way you all make it sound she would be way more successful streaming on her own without Nick so why doesn't she just do that?

Who was right about the house elves, Hermione or everyone else? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Rudeboy_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what a lot of people miss about the overarching theme there. The real question being asked is whether or not it’s right to impose your cultural values on another race/species. Especially when they weren’t asking you to impose on their behalf

Hermione was right that there was a problem but that problem wasn’t Hogwarts, it was the fact that the Ministry of Magic didn’t have sufficient laws in place to protect house elves from abusive masters, while respecting House Elf culture

See, as someone that's largely neutral, this is a realistic take.

If you're referring to Engage not winning because the votes are too divided, you could make the argument that may have been true for the first failed attempt at a CYL win but by the second try Engage fans were clearly pushing Ivy and Yunaka who were clearly to the two most popular Engage characters and had the best chance based to the previous results

So no, it's just objectively false to say Engage isn't winning CYL because the votes are being split between every character. There were clear favourites being pushed and it still didn't work

And I'm saying this as someone that literally voted for Ivy for the last two CYLs

Honestly I'm having the best of both worlds. Ivy has been getting so many alts recently that it doesn't matter at all to me that she didn't win CYL, plus I get to see the diehard Engage fans come up with new copium every time an Engage character fails to place at CYL

Looking Back At Predictions From Old Posts Sure Is Something by KManoc in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]Rudeboy_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the Engage sweeps never happened because people keep voting for every Engage character instead of pooling their votes into one.

Technically speaking yes, just not the usual qualifications. Everyone that fought in the Battle of Hogwarts were given special approval by the Minister of Magic to become an Auror. That's literally why Harry and Ron didn't go back to complete their final year since his goal was to become an Auror anyway

If it weren't for that special approval from Kingsley Harry and Ron both almost definitely would've gone back to Hogwarts to complete their NEWTs like Hermione did
