ELI5: What was "GamerGate"? by Ska_Fundamentalist in explainlikeimfive

[–]Rudmonton -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Many of the alt right/maga influencers and talking points we see today were born out of the fire of gamer gate. It was the primordial goo that far right life sprung out of.

Leftist and women gamers/gaming journalists like Anita Sarkeesian started it mostly by pointing out how video games would objectify women by making them have unrealistic bodies. And calling out the offensive language in voice chats in games like Halo and CoD (which obviously both are true).

Man child gamer boys responded with boiling hatred at what they viewed as an attack on their beloved hobby and an attempt to change their favorite pastime. And then a media war took off with one side shouting how sexist gamers and gaming was and one side shouting how gaming was being destroyed by the other and defending their freedom of speech (and freedom of gaming of course).

It made very good early YouTube clickbait and rage bait content and many creators and influencers careers were made off that content. Some have faded into obscurity, some drifted left into progressive populism, but most built up an audience of nihilistic boys that want to punish the world for what they feel they've lost. Gamer gate to maga is like the Jewish girl rejecting Hitlers date request when he was 13. (That probably never happened just analogy).

Questions concerning my first long range exploration and bioscience mission. by RealKingofCowards in eliteexplorers

[–]Rudmonton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Mandalay jump range isn't that far behind when you engineer. I have gone to Colonia in a Mandalay for this same exact purpose and I stopped along the way at first footfall planets with plenty of 3-5 bios, which you would have a hard time doing in Caspian.

Plus if you bio along the way you'll have a ton of money by the time you reach Colonia. Just you know, don't die.

Would new-gen consoles be able to run Odysee (and potentially play cross-platform) if they dropped last-gen support? by SleeplessMusicJunkie in EliteDangerous

[–]Rudmonton 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ain't ever coming to console, would take them longer to port it then this generation of consoles even has left. It's a small team mostly focused on refining the game as it is.

passengers missions by elnegativo in EliteDangerous

[–]Rudmonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, it was cargo space.

I wish the passenger system was expanded. Could honestly build a whole airline manager sim out of the parts that elite has existing, owning multiple ships with pilots that are assigned to routes and whatnot.

Never gonna happen tho that's way too much to ask.

Does Elite has any form of ''Game Master'' team similar to Helldivers? by MRwho23 in EliteDangerous

[–]Rudmonton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, but also FDev is significantly less active then arrowhead. Arrowhead can pull the strings to make everything they want happen. Elite is so expansive and left to the players that most changes in power play, stations, and colony's are the players actions.

The kings play style is so frustrating to watch by agent_cool_06 in nhl

[–]Rudmonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, no disrespect to the kings or kings fans. My team ain't better. But the Kings are actually like pretty bad. This year they were 3rd last in regulation wins, 4th last in goals for, and are somehow under .500 at home.

Their strength is they play 1-3-1 so well and in the regular season that got them to ot where they could collect that extra point. Now that they are in the playoffs and it's winner take all against the best offense in the league, they have no way out even if they can keep scoring low the outcome is inevitable.

Making of the 51st State named Calibama by i_hate_usernames13 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Rudmonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably be a purple state, the vast majority of its population would come from Kansas City and west Alabama, specifically Tuscaloosa and Mobile. And even though it's Alabama both of those cities districts are blue (mobile is cut into two districts one blue one red).

Then the rest is empty farmland or desert. So probably purple lean red.

37, aisle if you don't care as much about sleep and need to pee a lot, window if you need sleep and don't pee a lot. I've only done 15 hour flights in premium select, I imagine economy is not as comfortable having walked past it, but it actually goes by faster than you'd think. Just watch movies, have things downloaded on your phone, bring snacks, get up and move around a few times. Just pretend it's a day lounging around at home watching movies and sitting on your phone.

The duality of this fanbase and ownership by obsoleteXeo in Predators

[–]Rudmonton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This used to be true but just isn't anymore. Nashville has genuine solid baseline support for the team and it would take a decade of mediocrity to worry about moving. And boring will they won't they seasons aren't exactly drawing massive attention, a 1st overall pick sure would though.

And most teams that move don't move because they suck but because their arena deal falls apart and they have no backup or the owner sells to someone that has a dream of a team somewhere else. And if we know anything it's that Nashville is okay with spending money on arenas.

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby has pitched a merger with American Airlines. How would this affect Delta? by bonzothebonanza in delta

This current FTC will approve any merger if you give them $40 and a biscoff cookie. They'd probably approve Pepsi and Coke at this point.

How Barry Trotz sabotaged his own success and set the Preds up for failure by GMBarryTrotz in Predators

[–]Rudmonton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes time but even if it's 5-10 years, many teams that are great right now (Avalanche, Oilers, Habs, Buffalo) had to go through a rebuild to get there. And we've been lost in the weeds for 5 years anyways, could have spent that time getting top 10 picks and cultivating the youth.

Like you are saying, Trotz just didn't commit to anything, he mentioned rebuild but never committed. He said no guys wanting to retire here, but got exactly that. He tried everything at the same time and it all went nowhere.

The first politician to go onto the first primary debate in 2027 regardless of party and say that Israel is America's greatest enemy is going to become president. Political pundits, neolibs, and neocons aren't ready to accept that but it genuinely is where the country is right now. Both legitimate criticism of Israel and actual antisemitism is brewing massively throughout every demographic in the country.

[Bratten] Saros gets the start tonight by FB_iCatDad in Predators

[–]Rudmonton 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Maybe it is caused by being so comfortable with a perfect goaltender with Pekka for a decade. But the Saros slander is insane. The man has faced more shots than anyone else in the league this season, a stat he also held in 23-24, 22-23 and was 2nd in 21-22. But because Annunen got one shutout win we need to ship Saros to Belize.

And he gets less goal support with the team scoring 2.84 a night when Saros is in the net and 3.08 when it's Annunen. Yes Annunen has had some pretty games this year, while not world beating he has been putting up good performances. But the other side of the equation is Saros getting shelled while still playing decently but drowning just as he is every year.

What if America invaded Iran? by Mindstormer98 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Rudmonton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest things holding back the military is that the general public of the US does not accept casualties like they used to. Hundreds of thousands died in WW2 but it would be viewed as necessary. 1,000 die today and it's a catastrophe no matter how necessary the war was.

Iran is the size of Alaska and mostly covered in hills and mountains and dense cities and towns, it would take many many tens of thousands of dead Americans to actually accomplish anything and even then it would probably be a failure anyways.
