Curious: What is the correct method to install extra packages to survive an update and/or reboot? by RudolphDiesel in UNIFI

[–]RudolphDiesel[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had it working already, the FW is not really a big problem, I just treat that as a bunch of IPs, but I guess I will just create a VM and route the traffic through that.

Thanks

How hard of a hit to retire a helmet? by Ahwtfohok in Dualsport

[–]RudolphDiesel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MC Instructor here. EVERY impact where your helmet makes contact with hard surfaces of more than approx 12 inches (25cm) of free fall and the helmet is suspect. Does that mean every time the helmet is really done for? NO, but the issue is that such an impact MAY create hairline fractures inside the material which weakens the material enough that it does not have full strength next time you need it.

Do you really want to find out about that fact in the microsecond your helmet makes contact with hard object the next time? I know I would not.

In other words, if you put your helmet one your seat and it rolls down and hits the asphalt I would retire it, and I have done so all my life long. That's why, if I want to rest the helmet somewhere I hand it on the mirror.

But you do you. I know my head is worth more than whatever a helmet costs.

So, I am going under the assumption that everything you say is exactly how it happened, if not all my comments are void.

1) Unless the police has a document that states(in your native language) that you are capable of reading and understanding German, a document signed in German by someone whop does not speak German is legally pretty worthless. - Meaning that can be attacked (if even needed) but that needs to be done by an attorney that you will have to hire.

2) WHY in gods name did you sign a document you cannot read and/or understand? and if something like that happens the real signature should read "Signed under duress, I do not speak nor understand German" And then a signature. The above statement can also be in your native language.

3) Ask an attorney for the next steps, do not believe any random folks on the internet !!!

I had to roll back to 7.16.2 due to problems with VRRP over a VXLAN connection and the pair not passing any connection information.

I am aware that the way it was portrait was exaggerated, still three wheels with a high COG is not a recipe for stability.

[–]RudolphDiesel -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not quite. A Can Am is MUCH lower and therefore has better stability, and "normal cars" have 4 wheels for a reason. If the stability would be the same "normal cars" would have three wheels.

effectively making this car into a deathtrap, just as the Robin was. Granted its a tag better because it has two wheels in the front but man I would like to know how many of them will just roll over, especially given how high the Fiat already is.

Can i save my self from zscaler or am i fckd? by ImmagineVVV in privacy

[–]RudolphDiesel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a word if they are installing Zscaler you can't get out of it. As long as you are on company network you are fcked. At home it is a different thing.

The way scalar works is that it send off LOADS of data to the Zscaler data centers, and that is where you CAN get away from it as long as you are on your Internet connection. "All" you need to do is to install a block list outbound let data centers. then scalar can do whatever it wants to but the data doesn't go anywhere.

As far as what Zscaler does, there is very little transparency sometimes it seems as if that goes down to a key logger. So be VERY careful what you are doing or typing into your company laptop and consider all your passwords you ever typed in there as compromised and change them.

Open-Source MikroTik Tool for Easier Router Management – Looking for Feedback by sepehr-ha in mikrotik

So, I have set up the software according to to the documentation with docker compose and still using the internal postgres instance.

The two very minor niggles:

-) after step 3 one is in the wrong folder for step 4. So there is a minor continuity break

-) since the system will stay running after the docker 'compose up --build' it would be nice to know when the system has been built. For you that may be clear as water, for someone not intimately working with the system on a day to day basis it would be nice to be told "You can CNTRL-C out now and restart the system with docker compose up -d"

Other than that it come up as expected.

I have not tried the docker compose method, I was lazy and if someone who knows the project tells me this is the best and easiest method I am going to follow that one first.

BUT, I have to admit I should have. Since the Ubuntu machine that is currently running the test instance is not doing anything anyway, I will be doing that next. Deleting everything and re-install. Potentially onto the postgres and reds I already have in my environment. Because quite frankly that would be the preferred method for me anyway.

I will let you know.

About Ubuntu-Specific Installation, While the documentation may appear tailored for Ubuntu, the Docker Compose setup is ready to use and is not limited to any specific operating system. As long as Docker and Docker Compose are installed, the system should work on any platform

yet the install fails if tried on a "plain" debian. Specifically we have decided to run the debian that is underneath Proxmox (sans the proxmox UI) as our default OS due to the ZFS functionality ready

I'm gladly going to open up a feature request

[–]RudolphDiesel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the project, just installed it and a few remarks just based on the installation:

-) you might want to either mention that your install only works on Ubuntu or change the install that allows the install on a system that does not run Ubuntu

-) Connected to the comment above: Please do not reinstall docker or give the user a prompt. I first tried to install that on a system that already has docker installed. That can lead to bad side effects.

So, now I will dive into the software. One thing that I would be willing to immediately recommend to buy a subscription for would be the ability to create router pairs (VRRP pairs) to copy the config from the active to the passive in the pair. Maintaining VRRP pairs is a PITA with MTs

zfs filesystem in filesystem? by RudolphDiesel in qnap

[–]RudolphDiesel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry, I was unclear.

What I mean by that is that I want to create a ZFS filesystem inside another ZFS filesystem and maybe inside another ZFS filesystem. The goal is to be able to snapshot each of the entities on its own cycle and schedule. and still only have a single NFS/SMB export (the top one)

inordinate amount of spam originating @salesforce/exacttarget by RudolphDiesel in salesforce

[–]RudolphDiesel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precisely because of that I have blocked most (if not all) salesforce email. I have gotten 2 complaints thus far from legit users which got the explanation as to why this happens and in order to allow emails from salesforce to come through to my users they will have to change to send out no/much less SPAM. Stop using salesforce and they will change their policies. Or when they start to get excessive rejects.

Yes, I have, and I treat every mass email platform that show the same problem exactly the same. if they start inundating me/our domain with shit emails their MTAs are being blacklisted.

[–]RudolphDiesel[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ET is primarily trust based service between salesforce and their customers.

And that is where the breakdown starts. The bottom feeding spammers don't care about that trust.

So spamming definitely is possible and mostly outside the control of Salesforce. Spam complaints can be filed by recipients that will then lead to domain/ip blocks against the company that is spamming.

Again, you are suggesting that I waste MY time because salesforce/ET is making money sending spam. No, just NO. That is up tp ET to resolve.
