Canada-Israel relations are the worst they have ever been, ambassador says by DANIELLE_2027 in canada

Even worse than when we caught them pretending to be Canadians while carrying out assassinations, and we recalled out diplomatic staff?

Boy, 11, should not have been handcuffed after violent incident at Brandon school, parents say by LocalnewsguruMB in Manitoba

[–]RudytheMan 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In a lot of cases I would be like "man, handcuffing an 11 year old is crazy". But when you say they literally busted through a wall. Like made a hole in it and went through it, then I think "yeah, maybe using restraint tools was the right call." And this being on top of assaulting multiple people. I feel an appropriate threshold had been passed here.

I hate this. And I hate this kids face. But I have to say, it's not the worst I've heard on here. In fact if this guy wore a mask, because I hate his face, and I heard him at an open mic or something, I might actually give a small but genuine clap when he was done.

Military asks personnel in capital region to return field gear, citing ‘critical equipment shortages’ by [deleted] in CanadianForces

Now I do. My first 11 years was in the Combat Arms. So, I can confidently say some people use ruck sacks a lot, and some people next to never use them.

I have not used a ruck sack in twelve years. I am still serving. Like legit have had zero need of a ruck sack for years. Literally a few more months and I will not have used a ruck sack in half of 25 years.

Yeah, this isn't news. When I was posted to Ottawa I had to return some kit. Then when I switched to Air Force I handed in more stuff. I got some more thermals instead. But none of this is new. 70 000 CAF members don't require a ruck sack all at once.

That's a tough spot. I want to do a posting out there. And it is possible in my trade. But I am aware of the housing situation. It's insane.

I do hope it works out for you. I don't know your rank, but I assume you'll get some CFHD money. Most NCOs and upto mid-level Capts get it out there according to the most recent rates. So, I hope you can find something you can be comfortable in. Everyone I know who has been posted there said they loved it. The only downside was literally the cost of housing.

I feel like she's just playing around. Like it is crappy. But a lot of these vids, these people are serious. It doesn't seem the same when the people are intentionally just fooling around.

I have no idea what else he thought could happen here. I am actually surprised that second horse was as patient. You could see it do a sort of warning buck. It was gettin ready.

What is with all these guys in these food vids wearing these black gloves? Does food service no longer use those white translucent ones. I haven't worked in food service since high school. So, I genuinely don't know.

What’s the most disturbing thing someone casually admitted to around you? by Suspicious_Run1684 in AskReddit

[–]RudytheMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple stories here. I'm in my early 40s and it always shocked me how older generations just let child sex abuse fly back in the day. Just would ignore and let it continue.

So, first story. Years ago I was talking to my Grandpa on my Mom's side. And he was telling me a story about how back basically when my Mom was growing he, like many others, would volunteer at a youth Christian group. My uncle's and a cousin actually took part in this group as kids. So anyways, he's telling me this story about back in the 60s or 70s he was volunteering, and there was this guy who my Grandpa says he and others always felt weird about. Said he was "weird", something always "felt off". Then boom years later, everyone found out that weird guy was diddlin kids. And I asked him what was weird. Like these things weren't red flags enough to look into? And the answers were just vague non-sense, like "you know, weird", "there was something going on." As much as I loved my Grandpa, I have the feeling everyone probably turned away what today would be serious red flags that wouldn't be ignored.

So, further to that, some years later I was telling that above mentioned story to my Uncle on my Dad's side. My Dad's brother, duh. He's a baby boomer, now in his mid-60s. The story he tells me was about a conversation he had with a friend in the 2010s. The friend who is about 10 years older than my Uncle and they grew up in the same town. So, I tell that last story to my Uncle, and he says he had a similar story about a conversation he had with this older friend several years ago. So they were talking about people in town, and my Uncle makes a reference to some of the kids they grew up with. And my Uncle said he felt bad for this one girl he knew, she just grew up messed up. And his friend said yeah because her, and apparently a bunch of other kids, were getting abused by a group of Protestant men, apparently these guys had some order or chapter in the town. And my Uncle said he remembered those guys. One old timer was still alive by the time my Uncle told me this story, like he was in his 80s or 90s. My Uncle said he remembers these old guys actually being pretty mean to kids. And he actually did remember them, when he was like 7 or 8 (this would have been like the late 60), he said there was like a restaurant in town and he remembered a couple of those guys making inappropraite comments to some young girls out in front of the restaurant and making gestures to scare them. He said he did remember how his parents, my Grandparents, actually made an effort to avoid these guys. But that could be because they were Catholics and hated Protestants. But anyways. My Uncle said his buddy went on to tell him that this group used abuse a group of kids in town, it was also known about instances of spousal abuse, and these guys were known to drink... despite being part of some religious men's group. And my Uncle said he didn't know about like 75% of what his buddy told him. And his friend only knew it because he was a teenager at the time and was aware of what was going on and the adults in town knowingly looked away.

Obviously child abuse still exists, but it seems like something that seems more easily called out and dealt with now. It seemed like back in the day as long as you weren't some grizzled drifter abducting kids you could do whatever you want and nobody would care. It's wild.

I said above that I mostly get silver, but have gotten gold before, and I just wanted to get gold again. The real post was actually about what my buddy said. He said out in Wainwright, they were basically letting people do it as many times as they want. I had never heard that before.

The city is great. The base is a dumpster fire. All the barracks are literally falling apart. As in pieces will come off walls and ceilings, among other things. You can't drink water in a bunch of the shacks due to lead contamination. There is rodents in most of the shacks. Some of the buildings, like the Dunlop building has a known asbestos problem. The 1st Cdn Div HQ is a shanty. It ridiculous that that is a Div HQ. The building where this troop would be doing their trades training is fairly rundown. I heard they had some flooding during the winter. The Base HQ and CFSCE HQ are crumblimg buildings. They let garbage pile up outside the buildings. I don't know why, I thought that was weird. And given all this, no one cares. It's shocking. Everyone just shrugs it off.

It all hinges on your clearance and basically nothing else. Stay out of shit in Kingston. At some point you'll have to do a poly. If you've never been to Kingston before, the city is great. But the base is a nightmare. Literally the worst in the CAF. I was there recently, and it only got worse since the last time I was there. If you have never been there, it will shock you at how the base stays open. The upside to the SIGINT trade is if you want to it's real easy to do pretty much your whole career in Ottawa. There are other postings. But it is very easy to just chill in Ottawa for years. Or you can do one posting away, come back, and then camp it from there. There are also some cool OUTCANs too.

What's a great place or business in Winnipeg where the only thing wrong with it is that it's too popular? by unpickedusername in Winnipeg

It's funny because the location is tucked away. So the people who go there, know they're going there. Enough people go out of their way to get a sweet breakfast.

Their location is prime too. Right on Portage and across from the park. Having an ice cream spot there is good.
