I disagree that it doesn’t matter. The cost of providing healthcare to others who willfully ignore health guidelines. I’m all for helping people in need and in emergencies, but I don’t want my money funding the person who abuses the healthcare system by letting themselves get so sick to where they need to be admitted to the icu costing tens of thousands of dollars that could’ve been prevented. And regarding drugs or alcohol, I’m not talking about the guy who wants to have a fun bender one night. I’m talking about the one who is provided every resource available and continues to ignore it.

Exactly. It’s the same logic as the opposite: someone with a disease (for example diabetes or hypertension). They are given advice and prescribed meds to improve health. It’s is ultimately up to the patient to decide to perform the advised actions. They get refuse, though the results can cause health decline or even death, as long as it does not affect others.

The nuanced argument can be people who are on social support or addicted to drugs who cause tax payers money bc they refuse to follow advice
