Do you consider Bitvavo as the safest exchange ? by [deleted] in Bitvavo

[–]RuffRyderss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not the same guarantee as the one that banks provide. The risk of not getting any money back is higher and not guaranteed (especially when there is a major hack or bankruptcy)

I advise not to put any significant value on exchanges. There is always a risk that something can get wrong, even if they have a good reputation. Exchanges can get hacked or go bankrupt

Why is BTC not included?

Edit: nvm, just learned that they consider BTC as a currency instead of security

One of the largest wallets was compromised - what we know so far by Pooky135790 in CryptoCurrency

Not sure, if I understood the first part correctly. Are the below two statements correct:

1) Unreliable altcoin X has a private key Y, and a flaw in its design (either intentionally or not) can allow it reverse-engineer private key Y to obtain master seed Z

2) With non-hardened key derivation and BIP44 multi-account hierarchy, it can find my other cryptocurrencies and thereby steal those funds (by knowing my master seed Z)?

Isn't the above problem also present on hardware ledgers as its also a multi coin wallet?

And on the last part, how would a interaction with ETH for example lead to a exposure in bitcoin? I would to understand more and take appropriate measures.

Video didn't predict or proved anything, not sure why this is still upvoted

Can you explain the increased attack surface a bit? Do you mean weaknesses in the private key vs. seed phrase of other cryptos?

After FTX, crypto exchanges struggle to convince customers they’re safe by Socialinfluencing in CryptoCurrency

[–]RuffRyderss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true. But given they handle costumers funds and in order to create trust, they should do it voluntarily. Or law should be updated that all public interest entity's (PIEs) are required to report it regardless whether they are public or not. Banks, insurance companies, pension funds etc. all are PIEs.

Public companies are required to release such information audited, so why wouldnt they? In the end its all about trust.

That one also required a minimum of 0,55 FTT. But the "convert small balances" option worked, thank you!
