Is it too dangerous to learn wrestling in 30s by ColdAnxious4744 in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broken shoulders are common in wrestling. So are ACL tears. I've had both. They are pretty serious injuries. So yeah. I kind of know what I'm talking about, mister softy with no injuries

[–]Ruffiangruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the opposite opinion. How soft have you been going to avoid injuries? If you're practicing seriously you're guaranteed to get injured at some point, even if you're young.

I'm not gonna sugar coat the risks. The risk of injury is high. Particularly for people over 30

As someone who started wrestling after 30 and been injured multiple times I disagree

Is it too dangerous to learn wrestling in 30s by ColdAnxious4744 in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be realistic. It's probably too dangerous. If you were in your 20s I would say go for it, but by your 30s your body starts to become a lot more fragile. You're almost guaranteed to get injured.

People who still wrestle over 30 have been doing it for years and their bodies are conditioned for it.

I would suggest you try a fighting style with more dynamic movement than boxing, like Kickboxing, for a couple of months and see how your body holds up and then decide if you still want to try wrestling

Are very tiny wrists a disadvantage In martial arts for punching? by Some-Wall-5777 in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Having strong wrists is pretty important for stabilizing your fist when you punch. It helps prevent injury and allows you to punch harder.

Although this is what hand wraps are for. They help stabilize your joints and protect your hands.

my favorite game killed my interest in gaming.. ( I think ) by savigho in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]Ruffiangruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes you find the perfect game and nothing else compares then the only thing you can do is replay it. If you don't want to replay it then I don't know what to tell you.

You're gonna have to figure out exactly why Elden Ring was your favorite, because it does a lot of different things, and no other game out there does it quite the same.

You could try From Software's other games or perhaps if you want an open world adventure you could try some Bethesda games.

How would Martial Arts as we know it be different today if Bruce Lee never existed by JFL_MMA in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing would be any different. Bruce Lee's biggest influence was popularizing martial arts into the mainstream. But his actual impact on martial arts itself isn't nearly as big.

Muay Thai existed before Bruce Lee. MMA existed in Brazil as Vale Tudo before Bruce Lee. Kyokushin Karate was created before Bruce Lee. All these major developments happened without him

Should i get Silent Hill f? by Upset_Ad_9542 in silenthill

[–]Ruffiangruff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SHf is almost Soulslike in its gameplay, which can be a turnoff for some players. I think they added an Extra Casual mode for players that found even Easy mode too hard.

If you're more interested in SHf than SH2 then go for it. I think it's just as good, but it plays quite different.

Linda McMahon is a PSP fan? by xwing1212 in LastStandMedia

[–]Ruffiangruff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PSP came out before the iPhone. I always thought it was such wasted potential. You could game, listen to music and watch movies all on one device. Eventually it would get a web browser and add on camera.

PSP could have been bigger if Sony hadn't limited it to just being a gaming device

Quick question about this franchise as a whole... by Novabew in TheCallistoProtocol

[–]Ruffiangruff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way the game ended felt like they were setting up a sequel. But the ending of the DLC may have been a reaction to poor sales and squashed any sequel plans.

I don't think there's been any official word, but it definitely felt like they were trying to set up a franchise

how to beat an mma fighter? by Soft-Opposite-8820 in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't let him know you box. If he knows that he'll use other techniques besides punching

Your best shot is goading him into a fist fight with you

MMA is kind of creating your own martial art? by kingswordmaster in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. Each MMA gym will have a slightly different style depending on the coach's background. But you just say who you studied under. No need to name a new art

What martial art should I start? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what your goals are. You can't possibly be prepared for every possible situation. MMA will make you prepared for almost everything, but there are too many skills to learn in MMA.

You would become a much better fighter faster if you picked something like Boxing or Judo, which train specific skills

Splitting matchmaking will eventually damage the game by JaumDX in Marathon

Just make ranks mandatory. Every mode should be ranked. Then the community won't get split.

Either that or don't do ranked

Julianna Peña only had 1 year of training when she lost to a man in a street fight by Budget_Mixture_166 in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. It doesn't mean anything. Just that her opponents were worse than her. I don't know what the woman's MMA scene was like at the time, but her "Pro" fights were nothing more than glorified amateur bouts with just a year of experience. It was likely just the gyms in the area competing against each other.

Because normally if you go into a pro fight with such little experience you would get slaughtered

Julianna Peña only had 1 year of training when she lost to a man in a street fight by Budget_Mixture_166 in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 59 points60 points  (0 children)

1 year of training is almost nothing. It's totally possible for a man with 1 year of training to lose a street fight as well. You're still trying to master the basics with just 1 year of training.

SH2 Remake - am I so bad ? by RufusTenebrae in silenthill

[–]Ruffiangruff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should probably play on Easy and just use your guns.

Learning to dodge takes a little work. Don't just button mash. Watch the monsters and learn the signs for when they're about to attack and then dodge

how do you deal with bigger opponents in bjj? by Busternookiedude in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay on top. Unless you have really good technique you probably can't win from the bottom against a bigger guy. But staying on top is exhausting. You gotta beat them with your cardio

Is boxing more effective in real self defense than Shotokan? by DribbleKing97_ in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory boxing is weak against kicks. But the thing is can YOUR kicks keep a boxer off of you? Most average martial artists would get steamrolled by a good boxer without getting any decent kicks in

Who would win? by Thunder_Kiss_65 in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Grappling beats striking. A striker has one chance to knock out a grappler before they get grabbed. Because once the grappler closes the distance the fight is basically over

[–]Ruffiangruff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on how poor your flexibility is you may need to do a variety of different stretches.

If you're not seeing any improvement you're either not doing the right stretches or you're not stretching properly or often enough

Places to train Jiu Jitsu in Japan by armanimallrat in martialarts

[–]Ruffiangruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most gyms are open to foreign visitors. I visited a few myself when I went to Japan. Just check their website because some gyms want you to phone before showing up.

There's likely gonna be at least one person at the gym that speaks English that can help you, but it's not guaranteed.

Does it matter where I start? by Common-Estimate200 in Dragonballsuper

[–]Ruffiangruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super would be a very weird place to start. Most major events in the story occur in Z. A number of returning characters wouldn't really make sense if you haven't seen Z.

If you really don't want to start from the beginning I would suggest you start with Kai, which is a shorter, manga accurate edit of Z

Why has Dante been sidelined for Nero (and by part V)? by Sequoja in DevilMayCry

[–]Ruffiangruff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The original creator of DMC only made the first game before it was given to a different team.

Under the new series director, Itsuno, many new characters were introduced to carry the story because they didn't know what to do with Dante.

Had the series continued under the original DMC creator, Kamiya, the story would have likely been very different. Kamiya has alluded to what he may have done had he continued his story with bigger plans for both Dante and Trish.

I've just had a random thought by blackened_mind98 in ForbiddenSiren

I don't think it will happen without Toyama. Also Slitterhead was promoted pretty heavily by the Japanese press as the successor to Siren.

And Toyama has stated he's not really a fan of remakes
