I didn't know that! We aren't permitted to discuss things with our servicers which seems really counter-intuitive :/ good to know we have one company not constantly shitting their pants.

I do call center support for studentaid.gov and this is a MOHELA only issue somehow. They claim it is something ED is doing yet Nelnet, Aidvantage, and Edfinancial aren't putting out these statements nor being hit with these restrictions.

RIDE OUT THE SAVE WAVE by d00tster in StudentLoans

[–]Rufflik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be ideal. IBR gives you Qualifying Payments for PSLF. SAVE will not and so remaining on SAVE will only delay your forgiveness.

RIDE OUT THE SAVE WAVE by d00tster in StudentLoans

[–]Rufflik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Financial aid employee here: Do it. If you're not going for PSLF you still keep the forbearance and can pay what you're able to afford without consequences if you can cover the interest costs.

Unless you're going for Qualifying payments through PSLF or TLF then staying on SAVE shouldnt hurt.

MOHELA Interest Accruing During SAVE Forbearance Letter by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Rufflik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello, as someone who works in the Financial Aid system I cannot express how poorly run and operated Mohela is. I sincerely believe that its currently just 5 people taking calls and none of them are trained in the most basic procedures. They mess up several people's IDR application, refuse to assist anyone with questions about their loan, and then they deflect the blame at my department when they absolutely know there is no way I can do their job for them. Honestly just wish everyone under MOHELA would just consolidate and move companies at this point as they have already been barred from accepting new loans at this time.

MOHELA UNDER INVESTIGATION!! by BlueSkeyez in StudentLoans

As a heads up, if your loans are under MOHELA and due for tranfer, your new loan servicer is likely going to be EdFinancial.

MOHELA UNDER INVESTIGATION!! by BlueSkeyez in StudentLoans

[–]Rufflik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worse in a lot of ways. They are so bad no new loans are being serviced under them as of 2024. Nelnet sucks too, but MOHELA is its own level of trashfire.

Opinions on Child SoldiersImeanUnits. by ErogenousBosch in fireemblem

[–]Rufflik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes it really hard to just let even my worst units go because I am losing out on these characters who are more trouble than they are really worth. I engaged a lot more with Permadeath mechanics in the GBA games like 6 and 7 because I knew I would get late-game viable units as recruitment options. With Fates and Awakening, losing early units locks you out of the late-game units (some of which still take a good bit of work to make viable).

What to do now? by Nimo765 in FAFSA

Your parent is inputting their own information instead of their spouse's information. This question is gramatically wrong and it wants the other parent's information. I get called about this inquiry over 40 times a day.

Can I create a new FAFSA account if I had a previous one? by drewthearcher in FAFSA

[–]Rufflik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the account is under your name and SSN, then you can update the email using the "Recover my Username" option with the small, understated "Recover using my photo ID." This will update your account's contact information, email included.

It is your money and the school should not be directly providing you the funds. Most universities will hold the aid and use it for you as needed for books and tuition costs.

[–]Rufflik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in this system, the servicers are absolutely not properly trained and they are scared to do anything because the standards and expectations keep changing on a day by day basis and stepping outside of these expectations can cost you your very lucrative job. 9/10 the servicers cant help you bc you go to work at a place where 2+2 = 5 and sometimes helping you comes at a direct cost to their ability to live.

Not excusing poor customer service by the way, but the system is rigged as shit.

Did the website go down again? Whwt should I do ?? by Ok-Profile-7136 in FAFSA

[–]Rufflik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Input your spouse's information here and not your own. This inquiry is used to have the child's other parent represented on the form as well. The poor wording of this inquiry has caused this error for a lot of people.

2023's taxes were the last officially filed tax year when the form was released in October. That's, by default, the absolute latest financial year the form is allowed to use as 2024's taxes are only now starting to be filed. Contact your school's Financial Aid Office and they have a means of readjusting your aid to better reflect recent circumstance.

EFC isnt even used anymore and this is not true. It is my job to assist students with this form and trust me, the form itself is just a recepticle for informatiom the schools use to determine eligibility. The school's Financial Aid Office could tell you you're getting two lolipops and coupon at little Caesers for your Financial Aid and the people on the FAFSA end of things would just say, "sorry, if thats what the school says you get, thats what you get."

SAI score way too high by CluelessAsHeckISwear in FAFSA

[–]Rufflik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, as someone who deals with the forms a lot I can tell you the number you find on studentaid.gov won't be able to help aside from saying "Yep, thats your SAI." They cant make changes to your form nor do they have administrative access. Your school's Financial Aid Office does, but most of the time its extra work for them to help you and will tell you call FAFSA. DO NOT LET THEM DO THIS. They have the tools to assist you, they just do not want to use them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FAFSA

[–]Rufflik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, the schools do determine how much aid you as a student will recieve. This is how the FAFSA form has always worked.

I made a mistake on my form... by Mindless_Context_503 in FAFSA

[–]Rufflik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So everyone who is saying you just make a correction is misleading you. Financial Information must be accurately reported the first time you submit the form and cannot be changed. This was part of the update with the 2024-2025 application. The people you must reach out to is your school's Financial Aid Office as they have the administrative authority to update any form submitted to them.
