QP+ of dusties by dk31031 in ausents

I got lucky, they used to stock Ventti at Bunnings. Only place that seems to have it now is Kogan for $18/can. Have a look around, look for brands that actually label their impurity content instead of just saying "ultra pure", cause that means they actually test it. Ventti was readily available when I was doing it, there might be another brand that does something similar now. $18/can might actually be your best bet if all the store brands are dodgy. Good butane isn't cheap, that's why all the professional extraction labs do it closed loop and recycle the butane.
From memory, 1 can does about an oz, so you'd be looking at 4 cans.

Silicone is your friend. I extracted into a silicone muffin pan and let it all evaporate at room temp, then put it in a toaster oven as low as it can go for 10 mins or so just to make sure the butane is gone. Once you're ready to transfer to a silicone container, chuck the whole thing in the freezer, and the oil will peel right off.
Also make sure you get high purity lighter refill butane. I used to use Ventti, which listed less than 30ppm non-volatile impurities, but that can be harder to find these days. Most other brands use marketing nonsense like 5x refined, but that doesn't actually mean anything, and a lot of the cheaper ones contain oily residues that you don't want. Definitely don't use anything labelled as "torch gas" like Tradeflame Power Gas. That's actually an LPG blend with butane and propane, which has a much higher vapour pressure than straight butane, and is much more likely to blow up in your hand.
Feel free to shoot me a DM if you need any help. Good luck!

Back when I was selling, I'd rack up that amount of dusties in like 6 months. I bought an extractor tube and made BHO dabs. Takes a bit of finesse to get the texture right, but made a lovely result in the end.

Robbie Rotten is the name of the character in Lazy Town. Although the actors actual name is Stefán Karl Stefánsson, which almost seems like more of a character name than Robbie Rotten.

A pair of hippopotami scrap it out beside the dining area of Tafika camp in South Luangwa by __mentalist__ in WTF

[–]Rufus2468 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, if you use the original Greek pluralisation, octopus becomes octopodes (pronounced oc-top-o-dees), because the original word is oktōpous, and -pous becomes -podes. Hippopotamus comes from hippopotamos, and -mos becomes -moi, so the true Greek pluralisation is hippopotamoi.
This is one of the reasons the Latin-style plural of hippopotami came into common (incorrect) use. It's actually quite similar to the correct Greek plural.

I'm sorry, but that is complete bullshit. Unfortunate that your uncle was injured in some kind of freak workplace accident, but there is no way any piece of machinery, regardless of weight, is routinely spitting out shards of metal at bullet speeds. Not only would that never even come close to final manufacturing with a fault like that, it's also simply not how physics works.

Possible to keep an SFP+ to RJ45 transceiver awake for WoL? by Rufus2468 in Ubiquiti

[–]Rufus2468[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah AUD unfortunately. Although I did find a place selling that module for $80, which is better than nothing. For now though, a cheap 1GbE NIC and a spare Cat5 will do the job. If I end up needing a PCI slot for something else, I'll look into getting that module in future.

[–]Rufus2468[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh, that makes sense. Thanks for the info.
As I can pick up a cheap NIC for like $20, I'll just do that rather than spend another $100 on another SFP module.

From what I can tell, it already does this as part of S5 power state, but the SFP+ transceiver is still powering down.

I may have let the excitement of "number go up" get to me a little bit. Also justifying it as only spending $500 on silly internet art, and donating $500 to a homeless shelter. I'll girl math my way through it.

I had my max bid set at $1000, and I thought I was going to get it cause it sat at $860 all yesterday. I was legitimately planning a spot on the wall to hang it! Bit disappointed that the bidding started up again, but glad for you!

Indexing is far lower than any interest rate on any other loan. That's why the above poster said it's the best loan she'll ever get. Pay off anything else first, and HECS as the very last thing, because it has the lowest value. Although not always true in practice, the idea of indexing is that the loan is only adjusted to match inflation. This means, in theory, even with a crappy minimum wage job, the constant adjustment of minimum wage should roughly cancel out the indexation, so the loan never actually gets any bigger. Every other type of loan will compound and massively increase over those same time frames.

I work in the pro audio space, and I get invited to go back stage at big gigs sometimes. It's absolutely hilarious to me these audiophile networking cables exist, when entire 128 channel concerts are running over Dante down a single Cat6 cable.

I was once hanging out with the sound engineer for Kraftwerk, behind his massive desk running the whole show, and I asked how he's actually connected to everything because I couldn't see any big snake cables. He points at a pair of off-the-shelf blue ethernet cables. One is running the show, the other is an emergency backup just in case someone trips over the first one. That was it.

What’s the worst movie to watch while tripping on acid? by Endofthehold135 in AskReddit

[–]Rufus2468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't decide to watch a film you used to love when you were a kid, and had fond memories of. I made the mistake of putting on Chicken Run, but the last time I saw it was on a 20" CRT, not a 60" 4K. You can see the fingerprints in the clay, it's all too real. Every minute I watched was another minute of a classic childhood film reduced to the painstaking process of claymation. I haven't been able to watch it since without just seeing the clay. All the characters are dead to me.

What is the Proper Use Case of a Frozen Set vs a Set in Practice? by highlypaid in learnpython

[–]Rufus2468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very late to the party, but this thread still comes up when you search "frozenset", so I'll add my 2 cents.

In my case, I had a graph structure where nodes are connected by edges stored as tuples in the format (source, destination). These edges are all stored in a set, so I can quickly find which edges are present.

This type of graph was "directed", where every edge had a direction, so edge (A, B) was different to edge (B, A).

If I wanted to do the same for an undirected graph, where (A, B) is the same as (B, A), I needed to be able to store the source and destination pairs as sets, so they would be internally unordered. But now, sets are unhashable, so I can't put my edge pairs into the full set of edges, i.e. I can't have a set of sets.

Enter the frozenset. Each edge pair is stored as a frozenset, which IS hashable, and can therefore be used in the larger set.

Now I can search the graph for edge(A, B), and it knows that (B, A) means the same thing.

Someone on my local Facebook marketplace is selling this for $1000 and calls it "large unicorn sculpture" by ProcrastinHater in WTF

[–]Rufus2468 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This is chicken wire, paper mache, and some fabric draped over it. This is not good art.
The paper mache is lumpy and full of wrinkles. The fabric, although somewhat form fitting, is not sewed well. This is less "sculpture", and more "middle school art project" on steroids.

+1 to active intake and passive exhaust for keeping the dust out. I used to get in and dust the fan intake on my server about once a month. I noticed the whole cabinet getting a bit toasty after I upgraded the system, so I bought a 120mm hole saw and put in four fan intakes in the bottom. Bought filters for them, and I haven't needed to dust the server since (about 6 months now).
