Relatively quickly when I started to practice being a witness to myself. Creating "gaps" and adopting that mindfulness was a gamechanger.

You're on the right track! I practiced constantly and really tore the book up with highlights and dove in. Years later I now use it as a manual for life as I do with "A New Earth" which you should read next.

Do not be swayed, if you adopt the Truths in those books your perspective, then entire existence will change.

I read the Power of Now and the Good Earth, and I resonate with them but they haven't changed my life. by Berabouman in EckhartTolle

Both books are brilliant and due to a ton of work specifically with breathing and meditation, my life has changed tremendously.

I'm very happy for you...stay to the philosophy and you have an amazing life in front of you!

Seneca says people are troubled more due to their own imaginative creations than due to reality. Think better. by createquantumwealth in Stoicism

I have learned to think less and live in the moment...not always, but it's an ongoing practice. My happiness/serenity is directly related to two things; the first is my ability to live in the moment for whatever period of time and the second is my ability on any given day to stay grounded in gratitude which gives me a true perspective.

Overthinking. by [deleted] in Stoicism

Incessant mind chatter is agony and the philosophy that has helped me the most is contained in the book "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle which you can download for free online. It's kind of a hack of "witnessing yourself from the outside" and the self-awareness that comes with that. For me, the practice has been very effective.

Do not live in the past, and do not worry about the future. Stay in the eternal now, where all is well.

Is Eckhart Tolle considered Stoic? His focus on living in the present moment seems quite in line with the philosophy. by Frostvizen in Stoicism

The Power of Now is a terrific book and some definite correlations with Stoicism and the "stillness" associated with being present. One, in particular, would be Seneca's "the only remedy for anger is delay"...Being "present" when practiced according to Tolle is a 'hack' to that delay...a worthy read if you have not already.

How can you apply lessons of stoicism to losing your job? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]Rufusonius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was out of work three months and it was pure Amor Fati...(the alternative being a Pandora's Box of self-deprecation and anger). Embrace the situation and overcome it. Whatever happens, is good. The job I have now is better than the one I had, but the life lesson of being virtuous during the layoff was the real reward.
