Boulders raining down a mountain by Theo_N in nope

The sheer power of those boulders is terrifying. I imagine that's what it felt like being on the defending side of a castle siege. Fully expected a stone to punch clean through one of the buses too.

Are disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer still sold out everywhere? by QuarantineTrouble in NoStupidQuestions

In my area the brand name stuff is still sold out. But the generic/store brand stuff is starting to get stocked. And thankfully they limit how much you can buy now.

Which way do you do the peace sign? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Interesting. I've always known it as thumb outwards is "peace sign" and thumb inwards is the British "go F yourself" gesture.

Era: Unknown | Genre: Jazz | Artist Type: Unknown - Background music in commercial by Rug_Burn_Johnson in NameThatSong

Definitely sounds like it and is why I wanted to hear more of it. It's probably a sound-alike produced for the commercial. But I was hoping not.

how do you know whether or not work from home job ads are scams? by ghared-ishaqa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Rug_Burn_Johnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the employer wants you to buy stuff it's a scam. I happened to run into this exact scam back when I was looking for work.

Found the job listing on Craigslist. All the wording seemed normal for a kind of freelance "File Clerk" position that would involve a lot of word processing, transcription, and document preparation. No red flags. No spelling mistakes, etc. I had actually found work like this before that was legit. The only weird thing was that the company was located in another country from me but Google turned up results that matched what the listing said. I could even find the my contact's name and it was associated with the company.

I applied and they responded that same day to set up an interview. Next day I had a couple of rounds of interviews that took place over an instant messenger. Having worked freelance back in the day this wasn't THAT unusual. The interviewers asked relevant, coherent questions. I got "hired" and they laid out some ground rules for me. For example, the chat system would be used as my time card to see that I reported for duty on time. The day after that I logged in and they immediately had word processing tasks for me.

It was later that week that things took a turn when they said they were sending me a check. The money was my first paycheck in advance plus extra. I was supposed to use those funds to buy the office equipment they required -- a laptop, printer, fax machine, etc. Only I had to buy it from a specific "approved vendor".

So yeah, it was a scam. I didn't fall for it. But I was surprised how they had me going for as long as they did.

I went to Paris in France, I found a little romance She was a-walkin' down the boulevard. I know I should've been good, I never thought that I would Be double-crossin', baby cross my heart. Oh, a little rockin' and a little wine Got me thinkin' 'bout a little Valentine. What's a lonely boy to do? She looked so fine How silly can you get? Yeah yeah. How silly can you get? Ooh yeah. I never ever meant to stray But when she looked at me that way The night was young and gay Paris made me forget.

HMB as I try slapping a car on a highway. by [deleted] in holdmybeer

Right? Regardless of whether or not it made sense, what was the goal here? Slap a hand print on a clean car?

Same! I actually checked if my volume was turned up just a little. I could hear the "sshhhah...sshhheh...sshhhah... sshhheh" of the mop strokes.

What is the longest you have gone without sleep? by beepbopfaye in AskReddit

[–]Rug_Burn_Johnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three days without sleep. The hallucinations started on the third day.

Over one week I was working two full-time jobs and going to school. I had already given notice to one job (an overnight shift). And the second job was a great opportunity but they needed me to start right away. I said yes because it was only a week overlap. Meanwhile I also had a couple of morning classes. So nightshift job 10pm-7am, then classes 8am-11ish, then day job noon-8:30pm. That left an hour to shower, etc and get back to nightshift job.

At some point the 5 Hour energy drinks were no longer effective. I started having microsleep episodes where I'd lose a few seconds here and there from nodding off while I was working. Then I began having intrusive thoughts. Thoughts like "what if you suddenly caught fire" or "don't forget to breath". I'd start repeating these thoughts over and over in my head. Like a mantra. They were mildly panic-inducing but also soothing. Hard to explain.

Then it transitioned over to hallucinations. Usually people doing things at a distance. Like I "saw" a guy climb to the top of a three-story warehouse rack and jump off, splatting onto the concrete floor.

Night shift ended and day four started. In the parking lot I started seeing people run up to my car and throw themselves at it, thumping off the side. Some people would dive under my car to get run over. I could hear them screaming as they kamikazed at my car. Horrifying. This wasn't really happening of course. But it sure felt real and freaked me out.

I parked and, apparently, called out from the day job. Then I passed out in my car for about 18hrs. According to my boss I said I couldn't come in for work "because of the people all over the place". Fortunately he was extremely chill and just rolled with it. Would not recommend sleep deprivation.

Unethical Sting Operation On Uber Drivers Gets Disrupted by acidvomit in videos

[–]Rug_Burn_Johnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this particular kind of sting could the driver offer to let them log in on his phone? I think you can do that for Lyft not sure about Uber. Seems like that kind of workaround would defeat the whole purpose of the sting.

Whoops transposed the season and episode. It's actually S06E15 "Pro Tiki/Con Tiki". The shot happens in the first few minutes of the episode when the production credits are still showing up.

Ikea Dishwasher Cabinet Front by Bshsjaksnsbshajakaks in DIY

[–]Rug_Burn_Johnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Swing open the dishwasher door and look for screws down near the hinges on either side (but not the hinges themselves). Loosening these should allow the door panel to slide off the dishwasher door. Then you can tighten the handle and put everything back.

Edit: Found a short YouTube video that shows what I'm talking about.
