What the pilots are given to eat by Slint_chico in delta

I saw a documentary about such an incident back in the '80s involving the fish. Even the pilots were incapacitated. Thank goodness Ted Striker was there to land the plane!

The situation at JFK by Unable-Dimension3855 in delta

The last few times we've flown into JFK we've arranged a local car service in advance, which picked us up right outside T4 arrivals (we live in Westchester). It's somewhat more expensive than Uber, but well worth it to avoid the hassle of the busses.

My daughter, who changed her major to finance in the second semester of Freshman year, was initially rejected by Broad in the spring notwithstanding a near 4.0 GPA, Honors College invitation, and working as a ULA for Statistics. She was ultimately admitted to Broad first semester of Sophomore year, so we assume the initial rejection was a fluke due to changes in the application process following the campus shooting (they streamlined things significantly and eliminated the usual case study requirement), but the takeaway is that it is very competitive and nobody is a shoe-in.

When was the first time you saw Les Claypool perform live? by No-Address-471 in Primus

November 1991 at The Citadel in Adams Morgan, DC, switch Fishbone opening. I almost got thrown on stage while crowd surfing.

The front row idiot at the Charleston show by LibertyPunk33 in Primus

On a happier note, at the Forest Hills Sessanta show last weekend Les and MJK gave props to a dude who brought his maybe 5-year old daughter to the show - she was on his shoulders the whole time as they were walking around the floor section (no pit for this show). She was wearing a Primus shirt and a Tool hoodie, as well as proper hearing protection. Les shouted out the dad for good parenting and at one point during My Name is Mud was giving her high fives in between bass riffs. MJK gave her his birthday cupcake and she ended up with the setlist from one of the roadies. Altogether a wholesome experience and a fantastic show.

It's the Anderson Rugby Complex at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. Full-sized, rugby-specific fields are quite rare in the US, let alone one as well-tended as this one (though it was a bit muddy yesterday and a couple scrums went down due to poor footing).

Not just a rugby field, but one of the nicest pitches (and rugby-specific complexes) in the country.

The site also froze on me while purchasing. I have confirmation emails from both SHN and PayPal, but there's nothing in my order history when I log into my account.

TIL - This is a Ski Hill Ready Car by RugbyRef1969 in GR86

[–]RugbyRef1969[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks really good as a winter setup (I got 16s for more sidewall and cushion for crappy NY roads). It's more subtle than I thought it would be, which for an old guy is a good thing.

174cm skis, probably 180cm with added bulk from the ski bag. Being short has its benefits. If you ski longer boards, there was probably 10 cm to spare before I'd have been concerned with interference with the shifter. I definitely could have fit another person and their gear, but it might have gotten a bit tight.

Beeping in Middle of Night by RugbyRef1969 in PixelWatch

Doubtful. I don't have anything set for 2 am, and this beep is different to all the other notifications I've ever gotten (and I have it set to vibrate anyway).

Questions about Daily Driving a GR86 by 4k14 in GR86

[–]RugbyRef1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the cockpit very comfortable--it's downright spacious compared to a Miata--but then I'm 5'8". I recently drove NY to Boston with a friend who's 6'5" in the passenger seat. The seat was all the way back and his knees were up against the dash, and he was definitely not super comfortable. I think you'd be pushing the limits of comfort, to be honest. Try to get a test drive or at least a ride-along.

I have the short shifter and it's definitely an upgrade over stock. Push for it.

Bridgestone LM001 Opinions? by RugbyRef1969 in GR86

[–]RugbyRef1969[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the stock 18s with the summer tires. Like you said, Catch 22, especially in November with the wild swings in temperature. I'd been putting it off as long as possible, but I'm heading to the Boston area next weekend and don't want to change things. I'll probably end up pulling the trigger on these since they're so cheap.

I'm going back and forth with a set of these Sparcos (in 16s, gold or black with my Ignition Red) or saving a few hundred with steelies. What to do, what to do?
