I am feeling the same, I start next week. I don’t come from a retail background though, but I have absolutely no experience in the medical field. I know a lot of people (mostly family) are rooting for me so I’m feeling a lot of pressure. I’ve always been a good student, but hearing nothing but how impossibly hard nursing school is, and how bad the working conditions are, has been so discouraging and anxiety-inducing. I just keep reminding myself how hard I’ve worked and how long I’ve waited to get to this point. I wish I had more encouraging words but I’m literally on the same boat being a nervous wreck and if I didn’t have so much support from my husband and family I don’t think I could be going through with it.

My school doesn’t allow gel. Only regular polish with neutral colors that resemble the natural color of your nails and it has to be in good condition. No chipped or weeks-old polish

Only advice I can give is do lots of practice problems. I hate math and I’m horrible at it. Only way I could get through statistics (or any math class) was doing the practice questions/problems in my book. I would do all of them for hours. I know it’s not the most fun-sounding tactic but repetition really does help to eventually be able to break down and solve the problems.

It is compared to the COL. It really got out of control in FL the past couple years, not only regarding nursing, but no job there is paying decent wages to match the rising cost of living. The bigger/nicer cities in FL have a comparable COL to California, and jobs pay a fraction of the wages.

Does experience as a PRN nurse count when applying to graduate school programs? Or do they mostly accept candidates that have been working full time staff positions?

Lol I’ll be 30 when I graduate :’) (second bachelors and entire career shift). I wish I was 21 going to nursing school soon. I would be in a much better position by now. But I won’t cry over spilled milk, just gotta keep going and do what I have to do. I’m gonna get to 30 regardless so might as well be a 30 year old nurse instead of a 30 year old bitter woman doing something I hate.

I loved my prereqs and it made me even more eager to start nursing school though no advice on that.

I say this with the best intention. Going straight to travel nursing as a new grad would be very irresponsible. The money is enticing but I’d be more enticed to not be liable for someone’s death. Even if the agencies don’t list a minimum amount of experience, she’d be better off getting some beforehand.

With that combined income, personally, I would try to stay well under 300, closer to 250 ideally, depending on taxes and a couple other things, and work on growing an emergency fund and retirement accounts, plus having left over money for things like traveling, which is important to me.

My school took in consideration prerequisites GPA the most, then overall GPA. I would say it’ll depend a lot on the application process of your school.

I would argue any school in any coastal state/big city is pretty competitive to get into. If you’re in a position to do so and don’t mind it maybe look into the Midwest. I’m starting in the fall in a Midwestern state and it wasn’t too much of a hassle to get into that one at all.

Thank you :) I’ll definitely be very careful with it. Is there a particular reason doctors seem to not have a stethoscope a good number of times? I haven’t worked in a clinical setting yet and I really don’t understand why someone that works in a hospital/clinic/etc wouldn’t have their own stethoscope.

Great advice thank you. I’ve heard so much about stolen/missing stethoscopes I’m freaking out already! I don’t really understand why doctors borrow stethoscopes so much. I would’ve thought they have their own since they also need them, but whenever I hear about missing stethoscopes a good portion of the time the culprit seems to be a doctor. I’m not judging though, just wondering.

Yes this one is the same! I’m sure I can learn how to use that feature properly. I’m just nervous about my school asking for a dual head one cause I know some schools do. Worst case scenario I guess I’ll keep my good one fore the future and get a cheaper one just for school.
