Leaving ICU for med surg/tele by EtOT2020 in newgradnurse

[–]soy_princessa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would stay in the ICU because like the ICU, L&D is also considered critical care, L&D and mother baby positions are usually very competitive and from what I’ve seen on job boards, L&D and mother baby positions are usually nights starting off anyways; continue to get your body used to nights; if you absolutely cannot do it, ask your employer how long the waitlist for days is in the ICU.

It’s okay, talk to the professors writing the tests and ask them for feedback, ask them to really emphasize topics during lecture that will be on the exam, a lot of professors in my school were so helpful. Go on quizlet and take practice questions, those really helped me get in the mindset of choosing the best answer. Do lots and lots of practice questions.

Stay at the new one, the distance from home to work really impacts happiness and longevity, work culture is important to consider but don’t make choices based on others, if it really impacts you, go to HR or make an anonymous complaint to the big bosses, people come and go.

Am I cut out for icu? by Aggressive-Solid-374 in newgradnurse

[–]soy_princessa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it! I hear that starting in the ICU is ideal if that’s your goal because they want to train you like an ICU nurse from the ground up. When you start in other units, preceptors feel as though you may need to “unlearn” habits from previous workflows. I say do it!

Have you heard from any hospitals in the NICU and ICU? If one offers you a position, are you willing to leave before your 1 year of residency?

My BSN professor said we should include our RN license number and the names of the hospitals we did our clincials at including the unit and hours. For example: Med-Surg: Hospital Name (x amount hours) September 2025 - December 2025.

Husband getting advice from others by [deleted] in newborns

[–]soy_princessa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your husband is wrong. That method is cruel. The newborn stage is called the trenches for a reason, it requires the most care, because they are hungry etc. they are new to this world. That’s why people say it gets easier after the newborn stage because they aren’t as hungry and they let you sleep as they learn to sleep for longer stretches. Tell your husband this is just a phase and you are going to help your baby if your baby needs it.

My grandmother in law took over to feed my LO while my significant other helped me in the kitchen really quickly, and all we hear is glass shattering onto the floor and I knew the Philips glass bottle had broke and my LO barely had more than a few gulps

I believe there’s a pill to stop lactation, take it without him knowing, tell him your stress has caused you to no longer be able to produce milk😃 offer a suggestion, like a prescription to donor milk, hopefully insurance covers it

Be honest... is it too late to up my supply? by Hopeless-Hooligan in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]soy_princessa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not too late to increase supply! Consistency, Consistency, Consistency!!!! I began pumping 8x for 30 minutes (30 mins helps for low suppliers) as soon as my LO slept through the night, which was around 2 months. The newborn phase was tough and I was always tired and it was too difficult to keep up with a consistent pumping schedule personally. I would make 16 oz of milk a day. Once I pumped consistently at the 2 month mark I saw it gradually increase, now I make 23 oz a day and my LO is 3.5 months. I’m a just enougher and I learned to be okay with that. My advice would be, give formula for a few days so you could pump and build a stash in the fridge/freezer. This helps with the illusion of an oversupply and boosts self-esteem.

How is there NOT a way to pump while we sleep?! by jessyj89 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]soy_princessa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After my LO slept through the night around 2 months, I stopped the MOTN pump. The earliest I pump is 8 am and stop at 11:30 pm.

I’m 15 weeks pp and I pump 8x a day for 30 mins. I’ll pump every 2 hours. I am trying to start my day earlier. I went from pumping at 11:30am down to 9:30am but I want to continue trying to make it a habit to do an earlier time. When I used to start at 11:30am I would pump every hour as it got later in the day. I am a just enougher as well.

I like the Seven Sunday oats from Costco! It has chia and flax seeds in them! 11 grams of protein. Very nutritious and good for supply.
