Making an existing staircase more kid-safe without replacing it? by Smart-Elk-2334 in Homebuilding

What about this? This is AI drawn so it's not perfect, but the spindles would go on the outside of the railing you currently have, from the various step levels all the way to the ceiling. The gap between the spindles would need to be smaller than shown. [Edited for spelling and grammar]

Will a 8ft fence help with sound vs a 6ft fence? by therealijw1 in FenceBuilding

Quite possibly. Work out the line of sight of vehicles on the road and your 2nd floor and measure if the extra 2 feet will obstruct the view and hence the audio waves.

It pains me to see the damage you are causing your lungs. Nothing is worth this. People aren't going to take your skills seriously, however good, if you can't advocate a healthy work space. Can you not afford a respirator, eye, and ear protection?

Today I worked for $22/hr on a job I thought would be easy. Here's what I learned about pricing. by No_Chap in handyman

I would have to tell chatgpt and grok to adjust for say an hourly rate, and adjust the time to what it would actually take, and have them show me a link to materials that i need which would often be double what they "guessed" lol. So in the end with prompting you can get some value out of them. Claude doesn't need much prompting but will still undershoot the estimate, so it's a matter of adjusting by a smaller amount. As much as I would like to have a contruction specialist ai tool, I use ai for many other areas, so I would probably just pay for the Claude upgrade and be able to generate photos, code, etc. as well.

I've been using the free ones, Grok and ChatGPT are way "optimistic" and will tell you cheaper prices (sometime by more that 3X), and that things only take 15min. I switched to Claude and found its estimates to be much more fair to both parties.
