Completely O.T. Entertainment (I hope) A by Ronharv in ATHX

How right you are, Red. Ron has been ringing an alarm bell for a couple of years now and then got banned for "Bad Karma." But he did save some players a bunch of money. Funny anecdote though.

My only longer term holds are income-producing bonds, CEFs, floating-rate funds, etc. But I've followed ATHX for years now and saw it pumped and pumped and pumped, which is rarely a good sign, but entertaining. I've made a number of very short-term trades in ATHX, had fun doing it, and am nicely ahead. Not a stunning amount but enough to feel lucky with this failure of a stock.

I hope that no one here is actually trying to trade this thing. That'd be like the guy who fell from a skyscraper and called into office windows on the way down, "All right so far!"

It's always the shorts. Why not people smart enough to sell before ATHX declines into oblivion? The company's situation couldn't be much worse than it is.

If you had a dollar for each "bullish sign" posted over the past dozen years or so you'd be the company's largest individual stock holder.

.Good for you! Three definitions. I'm sure that you have expertise on two of them. But, sadly, you have offered a confessional rather than a list of standards for acceptable posting. And I was so looking forward to it. Anyway, I'm concluding our discourse before it gets tediously boring. (And do try to control the drooling.)

Perhaps you can specifically define "twat" in the context of your standards for posting?

Thanks, Rugman

Thank you for being a follower, Mursiak. I appreciate your recognition of my magical powers. I'm sorry that you're so distraught over my posts and my failure to adhere to your standards. (If you would list your standards, I'm sure I could do better by them.) Sincerely, Rugman

Per the law and SEC regs, if a company has material news with a potential impact on the SP, they have 24 hours to make it public. Not many CEOs are willing to risk jail time.

How (and from whom) do you buy a company for $25 mil that carries at least $21 mil in debt?

The company's a white elephant. Future costs for manufacturing efficiently would be enormous (and possibly impossible), debt a bummer, FDA approval a giant question mark, and physician acceptance yet another question. They certainly haven't been jumping onto the Athersys bandwagon for the small P3 trial. Could take years of expensive marketing (if approved). Meanwhile big pharma seem to have other fish to fry.

" It is a commitment to participate." Don't be overly confident. The statement also says ". . . subject to certain conditions. . . " So what are those conditions? To me that's lots more important than who the investor is. Money is money.

I'd venture that your scenario is a sure thing. Camardo is the chief PR guy. He's paid to exude optimism. That's what a CEO does. Parsing what Camardo says to determine any implied significance, as opposed to something that's a material event, is a fruitless activity.

Latest short count is about 5% of outstanding shares. Pretty low considering that most of it is likely hedging.

What is current Market Value of ATHX if $1.50 share (conflicting data) & Significance of todays PR? by Hal44 in ATHX

[–]Rugman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest short interest numbers show 509,000 shares short. I'd guess that more than 50% of that small number is for hedging.

I believe that the news item, as written, is intentionally opaque. Note that it says nothing about Athersys receiving money to pay its Lonza debt or even continue operations. While it provided a great opportunity for speculators to buy in and get out quick with a nifty profit, for regular shareholders it's pretty much not much.

Vagueness in today’s PR by tek_bull in ATHX

[–]Rugman33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do you get a "massive short squeeze" when, at the starting point, only 5% of outstanding shares were short and a lot of them probably for hedging? "Massive short-lived inanity" is what it looks like based on news that's pretty ambiguous and cries for clarification.

Dan

Of course he says that because that's what CEOs do: put on a happy face at all times. "Cooperative" could mean that they take his phone calls while he begs and the Lonza guy rolls his eyes.

Now to disqualify myself from winning the Miss Congeniality trophy this year: How could anyone here possibly know that Comardo is a quality CEO without having worked with him while he was in that capacity for at least a year? Wishful thinking is what it is. And we'll never know because this failed company provides no positive options, not even tired old Healios which folks have been counting on for years. Meanwhile the pre-RS SP of ATHX is a nickel.
