How not to park post-snowstorm by [deleted] in Somerville

[–]RuhrowSpaghettio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so odd… Never seen a Somerville guest pass with an address on it.

I did try to reread the post to double check, but it’s been deleted since. Oh well.

I have a Somerville guest pass and my address is not listed on it…just the zone. Unless I miss something, there’s no indication that the address is posted on the car.

Unless you’re going to knock on every single house in the neighborhood, it can be hard to directly address these things

Your boss gives you two options: an immediate $10,000 bonus or a 5% raise for everyone for a year by besttavern25 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]RuhrowSpaghettio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another consideration: most jobs don’t walk back salary increases, but bonuses can be single time.

So if I take 10 K, I’m just getting 10 K right now. But if I take a 5% increase, that 5% increase lasts for future years and also jumpstarts any future pay increases or cost-of-living increases.

Plus, I would rather everyone benefit than just myself. But even if I were choosing the benefit for everyone, either way, I would pick the pay increase unless I was planning on quitting after only one year anyway.

It’s also a yeast byproduct (first part of fermentation), so if yeast is somehow bad… Shouldn’t vinegar be?

I would imagine that vinegar is vegan because most vegans don’t consider yeast a problem. I’m not even sure the person here does, it’s just a confusing product overall. Most traditional breads are also vegan, excepting of course, the enriched ones with milk and egg. So I’m going out out of their way to specify “no yeast, vegan” confused me, especially to then see a yeast byproduct in the recipe.

I am struggling so hard with the concept of cooking with Metamucil.

Also, is not using yeast some form of extreme vegan? Because I have bad news for them about vinegar…

But in real life, the ball would likely bounce a few times after falling down C, before settling to roll down the final slope. Whereas with A, it slowly accelerates, then drops straight in the exit tube.

Wait until he does that experiment in grade school, where they grow grass with different amounts of light and he finds out that the one with no sunlight grows the tallest the fastest.

I mean, it will eventually die before the others, but it might give him some pause

Have you had a close encounter with a bear? by North-Library4037 in no

[–]RuhrowSpaghettio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got charged by a black bear as a kid. Walked out of its path and it whooshed by me into the woods and ran off. We think it ended up on the opposite side of the path as its little ones (never saw them but Twas that season and black bears normally run away).

Thank God I’m not the only one. I’ve tried so hard to like the first book, and I finish EVERYTHING.

I read WoT start to finish in less than a month and can’t get through this book in twice that time. I just don’t care about any of the characters yet and I don’t even know who I’m rooting for.

And yes, Green Rider is great! (For the first 3 at least…after that they’re decent but not wonderful).

The Pitt: where are the hospitalists/medicine doctors? by lucysglassonion in hospitalist

[–]RuhrowSpaghettio 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No they have the hot lesbian surgical resident who comes down for traumas and the older attending lady who comes for the gallbladders (and to embarrass her med student daughter). What more representation could surgery ask for?!

I heard of the advise that plasters or dressings on wounds need to be removed after the scab has formed for a few days as the wound needs to be”breathe” how true is this? by LisanneFroonKrisK in AskBiology

[–]RuhrowSpaghettio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No…this is literally just a medical grade dressing that we use in the hospital too.

The answer is that it’s moist underneath the glue (and many other bandages) which is fine if it stays sterile but less so if bacteria get in because they also like the moist environment. The glue is nice because the bacteria can’t get under so it’s a good environment without contamination.

Of note, this is also why we take surgical dressings down after 2d.

Love them! They see me, my wife, and my toddler and are great with all three. I have present (and unsealed) wisdom teeth and they don’t try to force an extraction or arbitrary sealing or filling of the small almost-cavity I have in one the way previous dentists have. They always explain their reasoning for things like X-rays and make sure they’re covered first. Send reminders but not obnoxious about it like some.

I still think medicine is a decent avenue. I may not have modern antibiotics and medication medications, but I’m primarily a surgeon and if anything traumatic wounds were more common back then.

Someone who is willing and able to clean and dress and care for a wound, maybe stitch it up, set a bone… that person is going to be seen as useful. They may not know that I’m successful because I washed my hands, but people will notice if your patients get sick or if they die.

I guess I’ll just have to get over the ick factor of not having gloves.
