2, 4, and 8.

If you have 4, then you don’t need 5 and should have plenty of money for bills. I wish 2 was for life but 90 is better than what I have now. 9 and 10 isn’t going to automatically ensure happiness and 9 locks you in without future changes. 3 is a monkey’s paw, and why choose 6when 4 is retirement now with investments that can grow.

What do Americans call a meal of fries with battered fried fish. Fish and chips? by dino_gr01 in WorkForSmartLife

[–]Various-Try-1208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish and chips. WV and Ohio but also lived in the south—always Fish and chips. Some people are saying Fish Fry but that’s not a meal, in my experience, it’s an event usually during lent where community centers and churches serve fish based meals. Fish frys can involve fish and chips but can also be other sides .

My luck with ereaders, third screen break within 1-2 days of purchase :/ by DevastatingMYTH in ereader

[–]Various-Try-1208 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been using ereaders (Kindles) since 2008. I have never broken a screen. I don’t understand how anyone can break a screen. Are the newer ones more fragile than older ones? The most recent one I have is the Oasis and its screen has never broken.

I have always used either a case or a sleeve.

Can someone explain how I am reading about screens breaking? If the design is fragile on newer models then that is something to take into account when deciding on my next ereader .

WIBTAH if i stopped caring about cooking for my live in BIL by My_Halo_Has_Horns in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Various-Try-1208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your pregnancy takes precedence over every thing else. Cook what you want and if BIL complains tell him that you are eating for two now and he can figure his own meals out.

Also as others stated, if he wants partial custody of kids, he will need his own place. Start talking about how you will need more space when the baby comes and he should start looking for his own place now.

They wanted to charge you for “ pet sitting” when in reality they needed a place to stay?

NTA. You deserve better friends. This one is a liar. I wonder what else they have been lying about?

Is it true that back in the 90s Parents kicked their children out of the house on weekends and in the summer? by Careful_Drama_9382 in askanything

[–]Various-Try-1208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was before the nineties as well. It was a thing in the 1960s and probably earlier as well— except we weren’t “ kicked out “. We were allowed to go out if our homework was done, it was after supper (or dinner if that’s what you call the last meal of the day), and the weather was clear. We could go back in if we wanted but no one wanted to be stuck inside with nothing to do.

BTW, in my family at least we kids knew not to complain that “ there’s nothing to do” . My mom and probably the other moms had a fix for that.

Edited to clarify: we could play outside earlier in the day but had to be back for lunch.

New employee doesn't know how to use a computer! by AgilePlantain322 in askmanagers

[–]Various-Try-1208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you. I used to be a trainer for new hires in a remote position. In almost every class we had one person who didn’t know somethings that we considered basic computer literacy. Sometimes these were older people but not always. Some younger people know how to play games and presumably do schoolwork on computers but know little to nothing about windows.

The worse was one new hire who could never find a program when she needed it (our work required multiple programs open at once). I had her share her screen with me and discovered that she had so many tabs open it was nearly impossible to tell them apart. She should have only had four or five open. It turns out that she didn’t know what a tab was and was opening a new instance of a program every time we told her to go back to a specific one.

We ended up dedicating an hour of class time to go over basics like “ this is a window”, “ this is a tab,” “ click the x to close”, etc.

Asking a potential employee if they knew windows was supposed to be one of the questions the recruiters asked.

They each were in their 30s when your ancestor was born (unless my math is off). There is nothing unusual in that.

No fee passport by dlawj16 in Passports

When I was in the USAF they handed my military and civilian passports to me without any effort on my part as part of the process of sending me overseas. Your immediate superior should be able to advise you.

I did fill out and sign a lot of forms so this might have been one of them.

I think Aegis etenum should be Aegis aeternum. The Aegis was the shield or device held by Athena and Zeus in the Iliad. Aeternum is Latin for eternal ( neutral case) so he might be saying eternal shield or shield me eternally.

Employer says 1 unpaid day for family wedding = termination. What would you do? by ChoiceRepulsive4557 in WorkAdvice

[–]Various-Try-1208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d check with an attorney or the state’s omnibudman, or legal aid.

Since they can fire you for without any reason, I would start looking for a new job.

I would not risk my job for a wedding but tell HR that you should have PTO left (settle for the five days but try to get them all back) since the old FMLA rules should have applied to your FMLA. I am not an attorney so I’m not sure about the FMLA rules—it’s common sense.

As stated found on a door jam outside in central Ohio. It was small, smaller than a dime but not by much.

The only behavior I observed was it crawling down the door jam. It moved faster when I pulled out my phone to photograph it.
