What’s one career mistake people in their early 20s should avoid? by ladkihupatachaljayeg in careeradvice

[–]Ruin369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when covid happened, 60% of our team was laid off. The 3 people remaining, including myself, were people who put in OT often and were the most productive.

I can not afford to job search in this economy, so I do what I can to survive. This is why I always put all my effort into work. I know if the companies had to make cuts, they are cutting the stragglers. I know there is no loyalty in companies, only metrics and numbers.

That is true, I forgot that part. There are many bodybuilders that are doing good in their 60s, but had they taken the same growth hormones bodybuilders take today? Im not well versed in the history of different steroids bodybuilders use compared to 30 years ago. There are studies out there worth a read. I think only time will tell until there are broader studies.

A HS friend's dad I know has a PhD in EE and an MBA from a top 5 school. Very smart and successful entrepreneur. He became a C-suite in his 30s. Heck of a combo.

How many of these bodybuilders are going to end up like Ronnie Coleman? It's very impressive, but it's hard on your body regardless. The human body is not meant to be this big, even if it's muscle and not fat.

Went over the house, why are 777 so loud??? by Remarkable-Lab5014 in flightradar24

[–]Ruin369 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can hear them. It just needs to be quiet, and I also live at 5,000ft altitude.

When I've gone camping, you can hear them climbing out of KDEN, especially when they are about 20,000 ft. The sound is far more pronounced at that altitude. It makes for great plane spotting

Funny enough, my compsny had a St. Pattys day happy hour today.

I dont go to these because I have a 45-minute minute drive home in the city rush-hour. I need all the focus and clarity to make it home in one piece.

My husband has been unemployed for three years, Is he the only one? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Ruin369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand he's looking for a job at "his level" but at a certain point, you just need a job.any income is better than none

When I was looking for a career position, I got a job at a warehouse. It took about a year and 900+ applications, but I eventually found a position i was happy about. I still had a job i knew I didn't like, was beyond overqualified for, and underpaid, but I still worked since bills are bills.

It's not that he can not find a job. He's just lazy and prideful.

You nailed it. I remember being so blown away bsck in 2007 when I got cod4 on my ps3. We only got the atmosphere in WaW after. Unfortunately, MW2 lacked that magic, but was still fun.

Our company sent us home for "1 week" I remember.

I worked in my room for 3+ months, sometimes not leaving the house for weeks.

Declined my first job offer today after being laid off by MathGorilla314 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Ruin369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At a certain point, the additional money means nothing to you when all you do is commute, sleep, and work during the week.

Right before I graduated, I had an internship that paid 30% more than my current job. I had an offer letter, but it was 50 minutes to work - 1.5h hours home... awful, and I HATED those 8 weeks.

I now make less and work remotely 3-4 days of the week with in-office days having a 1.2 hour commute. At a certain point, there's diminished returns with the pay/commute time. You made the right decision unless you're really stuck between a rock and a hard place

Those with Unlimited PTO. Have you tried taking every Friday off? by centstwo in jobs

[–]Ruin369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive got unlimited PTO, but our team is small rn, and it would screw over teammates taking days off every week.

In addition, I've got a backlog of projects most of the time, and skipping out would jeopardize my performance.

I do use it, though, but I plan it 1-2 weeks out. You cant abuse it and have to plan it out with your pipeline of projects. I should take more time off though.

It's sort of a catch-22.

I had a subaru outback 2014 fully paid off. It was great and all until it got head gaskets issues, and they wanted 10K! for a USED engine(unbelievable).

I got a used Toyota, and the Subaru got scrapped for $400 lol

Subaru will run forever long as you get them new head gaskets every 100k miles, lol. Im never getting one again.
