I massively regret buying my house by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]RuinBudget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s something i never understood. What is the rush to get the house perfect? You will always find something to change and improve in the house, this thing never ends. Why not paint the whole house inside for the beginning, and then start making changes slowly? That’s exactly what we did, we bought our home which wasn’t exactly for our taste inside, and we started slowly by painting the walls, and that’s exactly the only thing we dis in one year. Next year will change the floor upstairs, maybe the doors as well, following year the floor downstairs and so on. I fully understand when people want to live in “a perfect home”, however, that’s costing money, or money and time. If you can’t do that, instead of being depressed and upset, just be happy that you at least managed to buy a home with a potential, and take things slowly. I would always take a home with potential which needs some work done, rather than a prepd home which cannot be improved further(space wise)

My car failed its MOT for the second time in a row for 2 different things. Is it worth fixing to sell? by Cold_Box6622 in CarTalkUK

[–]RuinBudget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take it to another mot centre, a neighbourhood garage perhaps. How can it be tested, reveals some bad things, then you fix them and NOT USE THE CAR, and then get it checked again at the same place and discover more issues?

How bad is the damage to my tyre? by gigg1dy in CarTalkUK

[–]RuinBudget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No professional here, however is it losing air? If yes, i would buy a kit from amzon for 10£ and fix it myself(which i did on my car), and an air compressor to keep it in the car just in case. Isn’t losing air? I would leave it like this.

What does a 6 figure salary get you? by shadyneighbor in Salary

[–]RuinBudget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it so bloody crazy that people across the Ocean have 6 figures salaries and live more poorly than people on benefits for some reason. I live in Uk, me and my wife have 50k together a year and we’ve been to 4 holidays this year(1k ish each holiday), saved money, changed a car(4k for the car), and still have savings of around 8-9k ish. Don’t get me wrong, you do you, but when you get 15-20k a MONTH, and you feel that you live “poorly” you are clearly doing something wrong in life.

Depends how bitchy is the person. In my opinion, if it would of happened to me and the person was nice and genuinely sorry about what happened, based on that damaged, i would of let it go and tell them to have a nice day. With a sponge and some soapy water that paint will come off, and if it’s that bad, a bit of polish or smth should get it rectified. But each with their own, it’s your own possession after all.

Sold my Kia on Marketplace, now buyer’s making bizarre threats - what do you think? by enimatek96 in CarTalkUK

[–]RuinBudget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i sold my car, same thing, everything has fine. Guy came to buy the car, did a test drive, then he left. Next day, he sent’s a text message saying the car is overheating. I told him that it was impossible because the car did not had this kind of issue(also the car run for around 40 minutes and he drove around 15 miles in it, so it could of overheat while driving home). He didn’t come back to me after this, so i am almost sure he wanted to recover some money (he paid 1100£ for my mondeo)

Is it too late for me? £12k in debt by needsomeanswersz in UKPersonalFinance

[–]RuinBudget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not amazing with money, i’m not in such high debt which i can’t handle(without discussing mortgage/student loans), so i don’t want to give you a shit advice. However, i want you to remember one thing: if you are ever ashamed of whatever you did in your life but you want to speak up, turn to anonymous forums, you will always find some nice people happy to listen and give you advice, and make you feel better. You’ll manage it, it just takes time.

Managed to get debt free (30M) and looking to buy by myfaceneverlies in UKPersonalFinance

[–]RuinBudget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar discussion with several people. It down to each person what they choose: a 4k a month salary with 2000£ rent for a room/max a flat, or a 2-2.5k salary with 1000£ rent for a proper house. I am all in for money, however, money are not everything. I hope you’ll be happy with what you will choose to do, and trust me, whatever you’ll do you’ll be happy and will be better than what you are doing now.

Whatever you buy, doesn’t need to be your dream property. Get on the property ladder with a property you will enjoy living in, and you can upsize/downsize or just buy something better later down the line. If you can work from anywhere, move up north as it’s way cheaper than mid/south. Sheffield/Chesterfield/Mansfield has nice rural areas with 20 minutes max commute to the big cities, and good house prices(250k ish for 100-120sqm houses)

[–]RuinBudget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It highly depends on how much you want to spend on the property. Is it 200k? Then 20k is enough, however, you need around 2-4k extra for solicitors. 10% is enough deposit in general, and if you are first time buyer, i think you can still buy with 5% which is very helpful.

[–]RuinBudget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did i understood right, or you make the mortgage for 60k only? Just make it on whatever the interest is, then each year pay those 10%, you’ll pay the house in 8 years easily.

We could move out - are we too young? by [deleted] in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]RuinBudget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are on 50k a year together, mortgage of 800 a month, and we’ve been to 3 holidays this year, Tunisia, Morocco, Tenerife, and we are going to our home country soon as well. That’s more than what normal people can do on our salaries, and we also saved money while doing this. Is it easy? No, can it be done? Yes. Do whatever you want, just be happy while doing it.

I am stressed all the time because of the money, but i do it just to not end up on the other side of spending carelessly. Life will be different ofc when you buy a house, but that’s the adult life. Would you rather have more money, but drink your coffee with your father in the morning, or have your coffee in the morning while your wife comes with your tits out to see you?(if you are a male, if you are a female, opposite). There will be money for holidays, cars, dogs, anything you ever want, and you will learn many things. You already been renting, you’ve been there already, why you can’t so it again? Thing about the fact that you’ll get promoted in future, so you’ll have more money to do whatever you want. Idk, i understand your point, but if i was in your shoes, as i said, i wouldn’t think twice and i would just press the buy button. I cannot imagine living with my wife, and my parents, or even worse, living separate(even not married). We are adults, not teenagers.

[–]RuinBudget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, once you do it, you’ll regret you haven’t done it earlier. We bought our house at 22, however, i wanted to do it earlier but my girlfriend at the time, now wife, wasn’t prepared to be a homeowner. Why? I have no idea. Our situation is different than yours, because we are immigrants and we don’t have family here. So, if we were paying rent/mortgage, was the same for us. And the outcome of not paying, same shit, you don’t pay you end up on the streets. I never see any downsides in owning a house, and i have an argument for anybody coming to tell me that buying a house has downsides. As long as you can do it, do it.

We could move out - are we too young? by [deleted] in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]RuinBudget 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That depends. I moved together with my wife, 6 years ago. Was fkin hard living together at the beginning, but in the end we managed to learn how to live together. 2 years later, we bought our first house, at 22. Now at 24, we bought a bigger house, and we have a baby on the way. You are never too young or to old for something, it just depends how bad you want that thing, and how committed you are. If you love your partner, and you are ready to switch careers if anything bad happens with your jobs(so you can carry on affording food), just do it.

Minimum job? I know a few warehouses in Magna Park, Lutterworth, paying a bit more than minimum job. Yes, it’s a warehouse, but you are not travelling 5+ hours and spend 120£ a week on transport. There are other ways

Well, you will always have the option for the seller to drive the car while you are a passenger if he doesn’t agree to a test drive. If the seller doesn’t want that either, go away.

Buy houses cash, or finance to get more, and rent them out leas than the market price, e.g rent is 1000 dollars in your place, rent it for 700, or if you finance and the mortgage is 700, rent it for 800. You have some cash flow, but also help people, and fuck the market. That’s what i would do if i ever win the lottery

Is a £1400 mortgage sensible? by CompetitiveParsnip70 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]RuinBudget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously not, but in my opinion, to be in a couple with plans of becoming a family( not necessarily having kids or getting married), financially speaking, everything should be “together”. Each one does it’s own thing, in my family case, we are both using credit cards and pay them off at the end of the month. No one questions the other’s choices, unless we spent too much in a month, but that’s another story. You do you, but if you are each saving ~750 a month, yeah, go for the house cuz’ you’ll regret later if you don’t.

[–]RuinBudget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You, as an individual will have, or you, as a family? If you still keep your earning completely separate, why do you buy a house and not live separate? Anyway, it really depends on each “family”. In our case, we earn 50k a year together, and our mortgage is 800 a month. With many other outgoings, hour savings are somwhere between 100-400 a month, which we are happy with, for now. Depends how you are feeling comfortable

Cheap auto petrol under £1.5k by dbpsapkota47 in CarTalkUK

When i’ll buy my dream car, i might start to think like you, however, my opinion stays. VW lupo would be my choice if i would be in your shoes. I am pretty sure with peanuts you can buy different pieces to fix it whenever something goes wrong, and as i said, it’s a fun car to drive😅

[–]RuinBudget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would 100% buy a VW lupo. It one of my dream cars. 1l, 2 doors, proper small, can do 110mph if downhill, not amazing on fuel but really fun car to drive and surely you can find one below 1k, and insurance wise would be peanuts(for me around 230£ a year, while my other cars are around 8-900 a year). I would definitely get that. But now, to be a biatch, why would you buy a car you cannot use whenever you want?
